Been looking ad nauseum for a pair of a convertible pair of pants that are seriously water repellant, offer a true freedom of movement, are durable and tough, and fit well. This pair checks the boxes… finally! The only grip I have with these is that they don’t have the boot zippers. Small price to pay in order for all of the other necessities to be satisfied. The singular issue I have had with so many others is the freedom of movement. Most other pants were restrictive in the mid-thigh when you were taking a vertical step when dealing with rapid elevation change on a hike or climbing. You need that freedom to be wholly comfortable with whatever comes your way and these pants hit the mark while being basically waterproof, durable and super stretchy!
This is my 11th pair of Prana pants/shorts. Third pair of Zion Convertibles. I have been wearing almost exclusively Pranas for many years. There’s bad news and good news. First - the sizing is different. I had to return a pair of these (and another pair, different model, I had purchased a couple months ago) and size up. They’re also longer than normal. But they can be hemmed so that’s not that big of an issue. And for the good news. The pockets are bigger, the metal button has returned after that miserable plastic detour, I like the new fabric - seems even more durable and more stretchy. I can still ride bikes and do yoga in them. They’ve added the buttons to roll up the cuffs like in the standard Zion pants. I also like the multi colored zipper to tell which leg is which at a quick glance. They did put the zipper ends on the outside now too which was annoying at first but I prefer it now. Other than the change from vanity sizing this is a genuine upgrade, IMO. Worth the money. They’ve fixed every actual issue I had with the previous change. I’ll be buying some new shorts, err, well, shortly.
