I have ran in the Saucony Rides for the past 14 years. Through every change and modification I have stuck with them because they were always so good and reliable. Lately, I have not been crazy about their tweaks to the Ride series. The Ride 15's were perfect. 10/10 no notes. I could run in those for the rest of my life. The Ride 16's felt great, but the bottom tread started falling off after only logging 40 miles so they became yard shoes and I resorted back to using 15s. (This seemed to be a common problem with the 16s from other similar reviews) Now in comes the 17. I like the style, I like the fit, and I like the feel, but the shoe just feels cheap. I can normally go 300 miles in the Ride and they still look in great shape. 200 miles into my Ride 17s and the sides are already ripping and starting rip and fall apart. Whatever coloring they used for the Cobalt/blue started sweating into the white laces not even 40 miles in. Lastly, the grip on wet surfaces can be very slick anytime I try running faster than an 8 minute pace in the rain or on wet surfaces. I have never had that problem or any of these problems in the previous models. Saucony should go back to their 15 roots. That was an awesome shoe.
Bought shoes a month ago, and blue color alongside the sole is flaking off in several places showing the white underneath. Have only wore shoe while running on treadmill, nothing outside. Very disappointing quality.
I own Ride 16s and 17s. The comfort and performance of the 17s are definitely a step up. My main beef if that the blue paint on the sole started to wear shockingly early.
The title kind of says it all. I have both the Ride 17 and Triumph 21 and the fit for my size 12 more narrow forefooted feet is not just better, but much better in the Triumph. Of course the flip side to this is that I'd say the Ride 17 is probably better for those who think the Triumph is tight in the forefoot. The forefoot tread width is also wider in the Ride 17 over the Triumph 21. It seems I've watched every review of these shoes on YT and not see this difference highlighted, so I'm taking the time to pass it on here. Great shoe otherwise and a clear winner at its price.
I bought these about six weeks ago to replace my old shoes that were giving me bad heel pain. I’m still fighting that heel (mostly because I haven’t taken a day off) these shoes do a great job of cushioning the heel and minimizing the pain, it’s almost gone. My only issue is they feel a bit heavy on longer runs. They are perfect for 5m and under.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have to say that I got these yesterday and I set out to do a break in 3 mile run as this is usually as far as my old knees will let me go any more.....but these are so good that I ended up running 12 miles and my knees never felt a thing. The combination of great, soft, well placed padding in the sole, and the natural stride shape made this a life changer for me. It feels like I am running bare foot only without the constant ouchies from rocks and such. The stride is so natural that they have corrected my tendency to run on the balls of my feet. The shape is not extreme...but enough to keep me coming down on my heels first..where the thickest padding is there to absorb all the shock. The body of the shoe fits like my skin but does not squeeze thus allowing my old feet to provide maximum circulation. The combination of all this had me running half a marithon in 30 degree weather at nite because it felt so natural and pain free. I will not run in anything else again.l
The tongue is so short that it’s a challenge to slip them on, to top that off it also doesn’t have any link to the laces.
I bought the Ride 16's a few months ago and have about 250 miles on them. This is one of the best pair of running shoes I have ever used. I bought my Ride 17's last month and I actually think this is a step up. In both cases I bought a half size up from my street shoes and they fit me perfectly. The 17's are comfortably padded without being squishy. I used them for a couple of longer distance runs, ran several up tempo workouts and raced a 5k and felt totally comfortable each time. I would not call the Ride 17 a racing shoe, but they can handle faster paces if needed. They are a perfect addition to my rotation.
Once again trying to make all your shoes like HOKA. 1st you ruined the Kinvarra and now the RIDE. Why dont you hire real runners to help design shoes instead of people who dont know the 1st thing about a running shoe, The Ride 17 now because of all the added cushion 1 oz heavier and way to soft now. Cant you stick with what has been working over the years. Seen a picture of the Kinvarra 15 and OMG NO Thanks looks like just the 14 that I hated!!!! Bring back real running shoes that let you feel the ground under your foot. Loyal Saucony runner 12 years and now will be looking for a new brand. Thanks Saucony!!!!!!!!!!!
I have worn Ride for years and are hands down my favorite running and casual shoe. However this new design is terrible. Honestly, this is the most comfortable shoe ever, but the tongue keeps sliding to the side, which is annoying. The worst part though is when you tighten the laces the material bunches toward the toe box. This then becomes a hard spot that causes pain to the top of my foot. I can no longer wear them. Worse design flaw.
