Decent leggings, confusing fit.
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers program in exchange for my honest review. I was excited to receive this pair of leggings, as I have been in need of a new pair for a while. They are a fairly typical pair of leggings you'd expect, stretchy soft material with an elastic waist. But the fit is very confusing. The top rolls down constantly. Which isn't unheard of for leggings, but still annoying. I am 5'5" a very average height, but these leggings fit very baggy AND tight in my knees at the same time. No matter how I try to hike them up or down, the knees are baggy yet when I walk it feels tight almost like it pulls. They're not terribly uncomfortable, just kind of annoying. The leggings do have a side pocket on both sides which is great, and deep enough to fit my large phone and a wallet/keys. They're also warm enough on cold days, but breathable and light on warm days, so the material is great. The leggings look good, but these will not be my go to due to the weird fit issues.
Great for short people, recommend sizing up.
These leggings have a stretchy material and are great for workouts and other activities. I wear them for dance classes and daily wear. I appreciate that they have a side pocket. I typically wear a size medium but I found that these had a tight fit, Although I do have big thighs. I would recommend sizing up. The stretchy material does help. I am 5'2 and I found that these are great for those who are shorter, the length was perfect for me. They are thinner material and with it warming up I plan to wear them for hiking. I think these would also be great to wear as a base for when I need to layer.
Under-tights only!
Warning: *Wardrobe malfunctions possible* I was excited to try this tight for running. I like that they are high-waisted, have a drawstring, and pockets!!! They also run long which as someone on the taller end, I like (I'd rather have extra fabric at the ankles than not enough). They fit nearly true to size, on the compressive side. However... FAIR WARNING to everyone: These tights are VERY see-through!! I would recommend only wearing these under other layers (e.g. extreme cold weather running, skiing, or overpants for cycling). The see-through fabric is a dealbreaker, so I would not recommend to anyone... but they get 2 stars for how solid (quality) they feel otherwise.
Perfect for Cold-Weather Runs, not Short People
Overall, I really like these tights and would recommend them, but not necessarily for short people. I've used these pants for cold weather runs, climbing, and yoga--the best use case is cold weather runs and the worst is yoga. It was acceptable for climbing, but could be a bit hot. The pros: These pants are SUPER warm--they kept me toasty-warm for runs in the 30* range. They're thick and sturdy and seem to be very well put together. Another plus is that it has huge pockets on both sides. My phone has a wallet attached so it's pretty big, but I was able to fit it completely into the pocket with room to spare. Looks a bit bulky but it works. (picture attached) The cons: I'm only 5'2" and there's a lot of extra fabric in the pants where it bunches up (picture attached)--it still kept me warm and wasn't uncomfortable or anything, but it does look kinda strange. Another con is that it has a defined waistband, so when I did yoga, it kept flipping down anytime I did any forward bendy stuff. Would not recommend for yoga--plus it's way too hot if you're doing any kind of heated yoga. I deducted stars for the length, the waist band (I prefer to wear leggings that don't have a defined waistband), and the warmth--I live in Texas so I have a limited amount of time when I could comfortably wear these. However, overall, I would recommend, especially if you are tall and live in cooler climate.
Warm & Comfy
Tried these out today, and I’m very satisfied with their performance. I stayed warm— but not hot— during my run in 35-40° weather. The side phone pocket was a big selling point for me; it’s easy to access yet secure and comfortable. I have slightly large calves and these tights fit nicely without pulling. The standard length does seem a little long, but the thick cuff helps the excess material stack and stay down. Tbh, I wore them with boxer briefs for extra support, though it’s not necessary. Overall, these tights were a good purchase and I look forward to using them all winter long. Male, 5’8, 155lbs, 31” waist. Bought size M.
Great high compression active tights
Overall I really enjoy these tights and would recommend if you are looking for a high compression fitness tight, especially if you are tall/have a long inseam! They are high compression, comfortable, have pockets, seemed to dry quickly, kept me relatively warm during cold weather running, and have a drawstring. The waist band sometimes does like to roll down slightly as it hits at a bit of an awkward spot on my waist and likely how it is sewed in, but manageable. This is particularly annoying when playing pickleball or doing yoga, as it happens when I bend forward slightly. Cold weather running and hiking these are great in and keep me warm but seem sweat wicking. I also have issues with leggings being too short on me (end up being 'cropped' length and hit above ankle); at 5'10" these hit me almost perfectly below the ankle without bunching at all.
REI Tights
These tights are very comfortable and fit well. I am around 5’6 and 115lbs, I got an xs. I have short legs so they bunch slightly at the ankle. I’ve been hiking a few times in warm weather with them and they’ve been great. In colder weather you could probably use them as a first layer. There’s a drawstring if you need them tighter at the waist.
Weak Stitching
I've got a couple pairs of these and the stitching is falling apart quickly on both (they're tights, so there's always force on the seams when you're wearing them, so the seams should be very strong!!!). Otherwise good fit, comfy to run in, side phone pocket is handy.
Underwear
Great under pants as long under warm for extreme cold.
