Stupidproof waterproofing system

Who knew there was a specific cleaner for waterproofing gear??? This stuff is awesome, just throw your stuff in the laundry, and instantly renew the repellency in 1 wash. I've used this on a bunch of my military gear, from my Goretex jacket and pants, to even washing my 1 man tent in preparation for an upcoming wet field exercise. I've also used it to restore my Froggtoggs rain gear, and it went from getting me soaked to beading off water like a ducks back. I highly recommend this to all my junior troops, peers and friends to try out. Quite literally the easiest way to waterproof your stuff.

I wear high end waterproof/breathable outer wear and lots of technical fabric layers. Keeping the outer wear clean is essential to prolonged wear. In addition to longer wear, if the garment is not cleaned regularly and correctly, it may void the warranty. I never use anything but Tech Wash and the appropriate Nikwax waterproofing on my gear and have not had a problem yet. My rain shell is still looks great and sheds water despite heavy use and constantly being stuffed in and pulled out of my pack. I recommend this product to protect the investment you've made in your backcountry clothes where performance is critical.

Revived my old dry gear

Impressed. Old paddling drygear that hasn't kept me very dry for years did so one again. Revived a 8 year old drytop and once again hard to say if it was wet from sweat or the river. Of course this was only after 1 day on the river.

Reasonable Effectiveness

There is a slight but noticeable increase in water repellency for jackets and outerwear washed with both products according to the recommendations. I expected more beading of water and longer lasting repellency, but it was better than before. Works well for my Arcteryx windbreaker (polyester blend) and flight jacket (nomex shell) in a light drizzle. Any precipitation heavier than that does end up soaking through. Recommend also treating with a water repellent spray after laundering. *P.S. No data on how this product affects IR reflectivity of any fabric types. **P.P.S, I asked the manufacturer how this product affected the FR properties of para-aramid and other FR fabrics, but they have not responded.

A good way to extend the life of an old shell

Nikwax's hardshell cleaner and waterproof kit provides everything you need to clean and restore a hardshell jacket. I've got a Patagonia ski shell that's nearly a decade old. Its waterproofing was starting to lag. The wet snow here in the PNW was soaking into my jacket after a couple hours on the slopes and lift rides were becoming sog sessions. After a round of cleaning and proofing, my jacket held up much better in the wet. It wasn't perfect. It doesn't replicate "like new" waterproofing, but it was much better than where I'd been. During ski season (60+ days annually), I wash my jacket with the cleaner every other week and the waterproofer monthly. Its helped me milk another couple years out of the jacket..

Refresh!

I’ve been using this product on my snowboarding outerwear for years and can’t recommend it enough! I have a marmot jacket which has been washed exclusively with this and is still my go to riding jacket 16years later….!! Whether you have a rain shell for hiking or snowboarding/ski jacket the waterproof will eventually fail from dirt clogging the pores of the fabric. This stuff truly cleans out those pores where traditional detergents aren’t designed for these fabrics and will only further clog the fabric. This one is just science. Try it out!

No effect after use

I have a Fjallraven Stila coat that I bought from REI in 2023. I wore it in rainy Scotland and stayed dry. However, I washed it when I returned as it had gotten dirty. I followed the directions exactly but the coat lost all of its water repellency. Drops of water immediately soaked in. I tried this product and there was no change. I am disappointed that I wasted the money on this product.

Exceeded my expectations

This product has exceeded my expectations. I have cleaned multiple items and treated them with the wash-in treatment. After one treatment I noticed such an improvement that I even went for my old jacket to see if it would bring life back to it. Although it did not fully work, the improvement was still amazing. (This jacket is welled loved) I even used this product on my kids mittens and their hands were dry at the end of our adventures in the snow. I will be using this product for years to come.
