I didn’t sleep very well. Used it 3 times and could not get comfortable. Fairly noisy when moving around. Insulated mattress was supposed to keep me warm, but, with temperatures in the 40’s, I was chilly. Also, I was in a 3-season tent and a 20-degree rated sleeping bag. Perhaps I was wearing too much clothes and was too hot. I don’t know for sure, and I am not going to go back and try something else. Product is also pretty heavy. I was “Bikepacking”, so not so much an issue as a “backpacker” would have. Did like the included inflation bag, definitely saves the lungs.
I bought the Big Agnes mattress in November of 2020 and have used it for a total of about 30 nights on my sailboat. It worked great up until my last trip when it started leaking. I have found and repaired two leaks and have found a third that I am repairing. All three that I found were on top and in the dimples where it looks like the baffles are welded. At $200 for the mattress I was expecting much better durability. As far as comfort goes, the mattress was very comfortable and easy to inflate with the inflating bag. I really liked the mattress but it looks like I may to buy a new one if I keep finding more leaks and I don't think I will risk getting another Big Agnes.
This pad has revolutionized backpacking for me. I had an ultralight Thermarest for years and slept horribly while camping. I am a side sleeper and couldn’t stay on the pad and it was so loud it woke me up when I turned over. This pad is a dream. I can fit curled up in my side and my hip doesn’t dig into the ground. It is much quieter. I also like the slightly bigger cells on each side that cradle you in. The valve to let air out to get the perfect amount of air is great. I am not a big person but got the wide so I’d have room to turn over easily and glad I got that size. It’s heavy but well worth the weight to finally get some sleep on the trail.
I used this pad all summer long, and now into the fall. Temps dropped to just below freezing last weekend in the Adirondacks, and this pad kept me comfy and warm. I'm also a side sleeper, and have had no pains whatsoever. As a comparison, the other campers were using Thermarest Prolite Apex sleeping pads, and all I heard from them was complaints about the lack of padding and lack of insulation. Also, the Thermarests did not pack down nearly as small as my Big Agnes. I personally think that the inflation bag could be a bit bigger, but that's a nitpick. I can still deploy this pad in just a few minutes. Seriously, this pad is monster good.
I love the comfort and width of Big Agnes products but haven't had good luck with sleeping pads. This one lasted 3 trips in 2 years before was so uncomfortable it had to be retired. Because mine sleeps so well when it didn't spring a leak (2 different pads of another BA type-one lasted 4 trips, the other 2) I bought this for my son. He is 110 lbs and not rough. Several of the sections became unsealed resulting in big bubbles instead of an even sleeping surface. Not what we expected for what we paid. Guess we will have to try another brand. Loved this one as the night's sleep is akin to my bed, but can't keep paying this every couple years.
I've had two other sleeping pads before finding this one, but since becoming a side sleeper in the past few years, I've noticed that my other pads felt like I was sleeping on a rock. They were too firm with no give to them to allow me to sleep on my side. I just took this sleeping pad back packing for the first time yesterday and found it to be very comfortable. I usually don't sleep well while camping but actually slept through the night with this pad, and with the high R value, I didn't feel any coldness from the ground below and it was around 30 degrees last night. I also felt like it was pretty quiet when moving around on the pad. This is definitely a winner for me.
Purchased this as I finally got to spoil myself with good camping gear. Took it on a backpack trek into Eleven Mile State Park in Colorado in December. Low was 1° and this thing coupled with my 20° bag kept me warm and very comfortable all night. The included blowup bag made inflating this thing so much easier in the cold as I had no worries about moisture and possible freezing inside the pad. Overall Big Agnes hit a homerun on this bad boy. Must have for any camper. For longer hikes where every once counts I would find something else to shave off the gear list as you will be thanking yourself when you finally call it a night.
Rode a bicycle from the Atlantic to the Pacific this summer and this thing performed spectacularly. Extremely comfortable - never had any comfort issues. The way the baffles are laid out prevents you from running off the side - it’s very easy to forget you’re on a glorified pool toy. One leak towards the very end from the valve, but a new one is included and I was using it daily so I’m not mad about it. Easy to fill with bag included. Probably one of my most valued items. Does not compress any further once it’s in its bag. Worth it for cyclists with a touring setup - for hikers it uses an awful lot of real estate.
Finally upgraded from my basic Thermarest to this pad after accepting that I couldn't go one more sleepless night in the backcountry. Like everyone else has stated, it's great for sidesleepers like myself and my hips no longer hit the ground keeping me awake. The regular (non-wide) version is perfect for my height and I'm glad I didn't opt for the wider version because I no longer toss and turn trying to get confortable and don't think it would make a difference. It's also easy to roll back up and I can actually get it back in the stuff sack which I was never able to do with the Thermarest. The inflation sack takes some getting used to but it's not so bad and the extra effort is worth it to keep excess moisture out of the pad.
I used this pad on a trip that included sleeping along the Colorado river and also in Death Valley NP.. both places were extremely rocky and I slept amazing! I am a bigger girl and a side sleeper who notoriously toss and turns and this sleeping pad was incredible. It was an upgrade from a cheaper amazon pad that I used before, one that I thought wasn't terrible.. Well my 13 year old son used that one on this trip and complained about the rocks every morning.
