Great for Resort Skiing
This bag has a different layout from the 25 l and 32 l variations but it works really well. Rather than having two main compartments and the the front access it splits one large compartment into two zones. The pockets accommodate avalanche gear, a couple of other small items, and hydration. This is not your bring everything bag. The small and large sizes are quite different so check the measurements and make sure you get the right one for you. I love the way that this bag's cargo area is shallow and stays very close to your body. It is definitely a great bag for skiing or other activities where you are moving a lot and need the load to remain secure.
Barely there
Fits so nicely you really don't notice it on your back. Main compartment is easy access and clamshell opens wide enough to find stuff at the bottom. Standard avi gear fits in the separated compartment inside. Belt is nice and doesn't bunch. The left shoulder pouch fits a cell phone or family band radio. Size wise you won't fit much more than a small puffy, skins, snack and water but that's what this bag is all about. There's a zipped compartment for wallet, small bits, multi-tool and key ring snap. Diagonal carry is easy to setup and tucks away when not used. Separate top compartment is lined to store your goggles safely.
Perfect backpack
Just the perfect bag I need, decent sized, quality materials, and very functional. Holds my 2L water reservoir and the hose goes through the left shoulder down to the pocket. Also has a helmet net built in.
Big and Basic
I was planning a trip to BC and decided to get a new pack. The adventures woukd include lots of side country where avi gear was required. I ended up purchasing 7 packs to evaluate. This pack was the most expensive, it is very tall, the other packs were all a bit smaller volume as well 15L vs 12. Though the BD gets rave reviews, i found it to be very basic. The side pocket pretty useless when the main compartment is packed. The avi pockets are on the inside of the flap. Once the gear was inside, the flap could not fold open. All other packs had sleaves internal. I felt like it was too big for my needs and lacked organization pockets. I also will use the chosen pack for resort riding. Lots of factors, none were perfect, but I did end up with another brand.
Good compact inbounds and sidebounds pack
I bought this to replace an older avylung pack of slightly larger volume and considerably more heft. Superb BD build quality and just enough space and organization for a shovel and probe to be kept separate from other gear. I would like the ability to entirely remove the waist belt for lift riding (sternum strap is sufficient to control the load), and a shoulder strap mounted drawstring pocket for a small (8oz) waterbottle or two way radio, both of which I regularly use for resort skinning and riding
This is the PACK!!!
Is it large? No, but that’s the point. This minimalist bag packs so many features into its tiny package. Several interior pockets, plus a water bladder pocket, plush exterior pocket for googles, not shown is the exterior helmet carry (sleeve pulls down from stashed pocket on back). I go on…it holds my heavy downhill skis securely on the way to the lift when I wake up late and the park in the back of the lot. And it’s even got a little whistle!
Great resort pack for side country skiing.
This pack easily holds my avy kit, spare goggles, 2 liters of water (in a hydration pouch), lunch, an extra layer, plus a pocket for small tools and minimal first aid supplies. The pack manages to fit snug to my body and rides easily on chair lifts. I don't feel like I have a big pack pushing me off the lift. It has a clever tuck away spot for the crossbody ski holders, which adds safety so that errant chords don't get stuck on a chair lift, which can be dangerous when getting off the lift. There is also a tuck away high or low helmet holder. BD made perfection here. It has burly ripstop material and expect to use this pack for a lifetime. I tried three other brands of packs before making my decision and the 15L BD dawn patrol stood above all. Most important, the pack skis great. I don't even know its on while I'm skiing tight technical terrain.
Bigger than it looks
Okay, this is a small pack, but I can fit the standard safety gear, a liter water bottle, snacks, goggles, shell, midlayer, and small miscellany in it, with helmet on back. The pocket on the left shoulder strap is a little awkward (large and floppy), would be cool if the zipper went in a way that my radio cable and unit could fit in the main compartment without disconnecting it.
Perfect for the job!
If you’re looking for a pack to carry lunch, glasses, goggle lenses, spare gloves, and maybe an extra mid layer, with secure sternum and waist straps that allow free movement, all in a package that’s small, flat and tidy enough to wear on a chairlift, and light enough for short day tours, this pack will do all of that and more.
Perfect small pack.
I bought this pack for those times I just need to carry a few things and didn't want anything bigger. For that purpose the pack is perfect. With the small size and it's fit I don't even notice I'm carrying it. Looking forward to this being my go to pack to carry a few extra clothes and some snacks on winter adventures.
