Needs improvement
Pros: - Jetforce is the best airbag deployment system on the market - Crotch strap is easy to use Cons: - The clip and zipper design that holds the airbag are toally useless. Buy this pack and expect that the clip and zipper will constantly be open allowing your airbag to fall out. I have vast expereince with airbags from many manifacturers. I've never had an issue like this with any other system. I am a professional guide and did a peer survey and all other users contacted expressed extreme frustration with this also. - Pack is flimsy due to the interchangable system and flops around on you back with the 35 litre booster. - Hard to access gear without opening the entire system and exposing your contents to snow and moisture. - Waste belt slips and needs to be taped to stay shut for some users
Best electric bag!
Used this a a number of backcountry tours, from easy trees to steep couloir climbs. Best electric bag out there, hands down. All the features you could want, adjustable size, user friendly, and time-tested. Best part is the weight of the battery/fan is centered low on your back so feels much lighter than it is, compared to other brands that have it high/mid back and very top heavy when carrying. Stop debating and buy it. Only recommendation would be to have some sort of low-profile cinch strap on the bottom half of the main compartment to help compress the bag when less full as the top straps squeeze everything to bottom and pooch it out.
Super stable pack and carries the load well
Finally pulled the trigger on an avy bag and really liked the idea of having the zero cost deployment practice and no worries airline travel. I like being able to switch between the different sizes of pack, but it takes some practice to figure out how not to explode all your gear out at each transition. Snow tool pocket is really easy to manage but can be hard to get into if you have your helmet on the pack. I have the 25L booster as well which is easy to switch out. But it is either a bunch of extra space with the 35L or not quite enough with the 25L. I few more pictures on the website of the internals of the pack would be nice to better understand what I was ordering in the 1st place
Great Pack with small improvement needed
I am really happy on this pack is big enough for al my staff also for a long we climbing around 4000mt in the Alps. In any case I would like to provide some suggestion to improve it. I think that another axe holder is needed (i did), an internal small pocket with zip for keys wallet mobile etc, an rope holder. with this three improvement it would be more then excellent as is now :-)
Not there yet...
1) The pack should be more form fitting to one's back, which would make the it much more comfortable to wear. No one has a back that is flat like a board. 2) The top strap to secure skis is too far to the side, causing the skis to sage too much horizontally. And the strap clip is on backwards, making it really difficult to snap on with a fully loaded pack. 3) The pack should have two more "cinch" straps on either side to compress the pack into a tight package when not fully loaded. 4) Lastly, a small loop on the side of the waist strap would be nice to attach ski crampons, via a carabiner, so they are easily accessible when skinning. Hope you can improve the pack...the potential is there.
A good bag, but missing a few features
This is a great bag filled with technology that really reduce some of our risk when traveling on snow. I don't have any suggestions for making the tech side of it any better other than the wishful thinking on making it even lighter (although it's way better than the previous version). I do however wish that there was a key clip in the top compartment of pack. It would be great to have the ability to clip keys so you didn't have to fish for them or just throw them in the main compartment. The only only suggestion I have is a gear loop on the left side hip pad. It would be great to be able to clip gloves, etc. during transitions, etc. Not a huge thing but it would be a nice addition to this great bag.
Fantastic tech terrible backpack
Every time I throw the bag in the car or bump it against a tree on the way down a run the clip holding the bag together unclips and if I don’t notice it quickly the whole pack with split in half and I have to fold the airbag back in and rezip it. The shoulder/hip straps are really not comfortable. The ski carry system leaves a lot to be desired. When you pack it full, since the booster pack can zip all the way off it tends to try and do that so you have to try and hold the two halves together with your legs while zipping up the pack, which is not what you want to do on a peak. Overall I bought it for the avy airbag tech, but I might just sell this and buy a canister airbag from a company that can make a competent backpack.
Light and
I replaced another battery airbag that I owned and like this one MUCH better. It is ridiculously lighter than my other one. Bought the 35L pack and the 25L booster. The 25 is perfect for long days. The 35L is perfect for guiding or longer trips. I'd even get the 10L for dawn patrols. The features are well thought out from the hideaway helmet carrier and stow away ski carry straps to battery and light indicator on the deploy trigger - and much more! Dedicated shovel and probe pocket is perfect. The battery lasts a long time before needing charging. Only (very small) "complaints" would be lack of removing battery and there's a gap on one side for the airbag that has a clip that often comes undone. Not a major issue and in no way a safety one.
Very Pleased With This New Version
I finished out this season (20-30 days) with my new Jetforce Airbag Pack. I have been using my employer supplied original version for several years, but wanted my own as I will be retiring soon after 5 decades in the avalanche business. I'm very pleased with this new version. Lighter and carries more comfortably with larger storage available in all the compartments; top pocket (a key pocket would be nice here), main cargo compartment, and snow tools compartment than my older version. I'm still getting used to the ski carry system. The pack deploys effectively and repacks easily with a handy spot for the zipper pull. I have noticed the Release Clip coming unclipped and now pay attention to it. So far I have no reason to not give the pack an excellent rating
It’s worth every penny
I have had the unfortunate need for this equipment. When initiated, the airbag immediately reduces the tumbling action of being involved in an avalanche. It then rapidly brings you to the surface where you are able to observe your surroundings and prepare for a defence against other objects. When you stop, you’re able to extricate yourself and search for others. This equipment is as important as a transceiver and should be included in the “essential” gear recommended for back country travel.
