Sturdy, Warm and Waterproof!

First of all, I received these boots at no cost in exchange for an honest, unbiased review, so here goes. These boots are well made, very sturdy and are not overly heavy. The tread is aggressive enough to use on groomed hiking trails or on the mountain where there are no trails. The sole is not so aggressive that it becomes slippery or uncomfortable on city streets, sidewalks and other hard surfaces. The insole that comes with the boots is supportive and very comfortable. I normally wear prescribed orthotic insoles, so I tried these boots with the Keen insole then replaced it with my orthotic to see which worked better. I found the Keen insole to be more comfortable and cushioned while wearing these boots. The boots fit a little better with my orthotic insoles in them. I like the padded mid height collar and support it offers; however, I experienced a little ankle discomfort after my first outing in these. The first time I wore these was on a 3-mile trip around town on city streets and sidewalks. The temperature was in the low twenties with a slight breeze. These boots were very warm and kept my feet comfortable during this outing. Due to when I received the boots, Christmas travel and extended frigid temperatures, I didn't get a chance to try these on established hiking trails. I did get to hike on undeveloped mountain land during a couple of the milder days. The boots provided great foot and ankle support and the tread provided secure footing on the terrain. I used these boots to hike uphill, downhill, across the grade and over some small tree trunks that were down. The only thing I didn't encounter was rocky terrain. Based on the sturdiness of these boots and their performance, I suspect they would perform well on rocks as well. I have an average width foot with a narrow heel and while average in width, it is best described as a low volume foot. As a result, the Keens did not fit me as well as other boots I own. I do enjoy the wider toe box on the Keen's but found the boot a little too roomy for my type of foot. If you have a narrow or low volume foot, these boots probably won't work for you. If you have a wider and average to fuller volume foot, these boots should work just fine for you.

Falling apart after < one year

I loved these boots for almost a year. They fit and look great. While hiking a few days ago I noticed one of my feet was wet. Apparently the sole of one boot has separated from the upper part, on both sides of the toe box, allowing water to seep in. I'm extremely disappointed considering the price, and also the fact that I've worn these boots less than 50 times. As you can see from my photos, the sole doesn't even show any signs of wearing down yet, despite the fact it is separating from the upper. I used to suggest Keen to anyone looking for a good pair of hiking boots, but that has certainly changed. This was my first, and I suppose will be my last pair of Keens unless they will do something to rectify the situation.

Super comfortable boot but tread material wears to

I really loved these boots barring one fairly killer flaw. The wide toe box, and stable base made this the most comfortable hiking boot I've ever had. The design is very intelligent to bending, kneeling, and collision so they didn't form any bad folds or seams. They also were waterproof the whole time I've had them. My only problem with them is the heel and tread material, its too soft. Despite the fact that everything else on the boot was fantastic the tread has worn off completely in about 7 or 8 months since I bought them. So they are already basically unusable on any challenging trail, its really sad because they are now just going to become work boots, despite being one of my favorite hiking boots I've ever had

HIKING THE HILLS OF LOS ANGELES

Excellent pair of shoes to say the least, fit is on point. Comfortable for sure, I had to order a half size larger since I have wide flat feet. Took out the insole to replace them with my custom insole, fit perfectly. I knew KEEN with come thru perfectly since I also own a pair of electrician boots from KEEN. Those are amazing so when I decided to follow up with these hiking boots my confidence was on. And I was surely satisfied to add these to my daily fit selection.Overall I’m a returning consumer for the durability, the comfortably and well made American made environment friendly materials. I’ll be back for more and I surely found my go to shoe.

Broken when I unboxed them. So much for quality.

What happened to that Keen quality? I’ve been a huge fan since the Erickson PCT. I’ve been chasing that feel since 2013, and after several attempts over the years I thought I’d found the closest thing to them in the Circadia. Unfortunately, the suspense will continue for the foreseeable future, as the fabric/ribbon that these depend on to lace up was broken when I took them out of the box. I’m incredibly disappointed to say the least.

very comfy, a little on the wide side

Extremely comfortable, a little wider than normal. Very sure grip on uneven surfaces. And the shape of the sole makes them surprisingly "fast" for what looks like a bulky shoe. Unlike most day hikers (where you'll see complaints about not being wide enough), these boots seem extra wide, with plenty of room even with medium socks. They stayed in place perfectly but I could probably have gone down a half-size without problem. I would have to wear heavier socks for anything more than a few hours on the trail. I tested the new boots recently on the mixed rock and sand surfaces of Nevada's Valley of Fire, and they had a perfect grip. Never felt like they were either slipping or dragging. They were easier in the sand than my approach shoes (that I wore at first), despite weighing a full pound more. No break-in necessary, just re-tightened the laces once after an hour or so. Good support and sure grip on angled descents and rock scrambles. Bravo! Compared to Keen's Targhee III in the same size, these Circadia are only slightly lighter (2lbs 10oz making them 3oz lighter) but they feel much lighter, much faster, less stiff. The shape of the shoe rolls your foot forward like a runner would, making each step feel effortless. It was a really good first-wear experience! And those laces, let me tell ya... somebody finally figured out a decent no-slip design. Most are types either fray easily or slip continuously. So far, this lacing stays in place AND seems be sturdy. It's a weird thing to be excited about but they got the laces exactly right. I've tried a lot of hiking footwear, and I didn't ever expect to describe mid-hikers as "nimble" but that's exactly what these Circadia are. I've been favoring low hiking shoes recently, but these boots are now my go-to hikers. Highly Recommended.

It could be a great boot with a design tweak.

I wear a lot of Keen shoes and love the fit. My Targhee III's needed replacing so I thought I would try the Circadia. It fit and felt like a typical Keen and I liked the color and style. Unfortunately, the design with the fabric slots above the toebox didn't work for me. When I would bend my foot, the leather would push into the cloth area and into the top of my foot. It was uncomfortable enough to make me return them. Back to the Targhee's.

Fell apart

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first pair I purchased came apart at the soles. Keen was on the spot and had a new pair on my feet in a couple of days. Well the new pair have separated at the sole again. Waiting on warranty approval now for two days with bo word.

Didn’t even last a month. Do not buy!

Didn’t even last a month. I just used these these boots lightly and went on regular paved walks and the sole is already coming out of the boot. Haven’t even put them through a hike. Do not buy!

Hold up Terribly

I have had these boots for 2 months now and the soles on both boots are already falling off. Extremely over priced to only last a couple months
