The right jacket for mountaineering in the snow

Great quality jacket, lighter than expected from the spec, really warm in cold snow high altitude conditions. If you get the Hoody version it helps to stay warm on a cold night. It’s true to size, it’s not really larger and does not have weird shapes, yet allows you to add layers underneath if you need it. Fit ‘ Lean climbers and mountaineers will find the fit just right. The 800 down could appear low in the spec compared to 1000 down jackets out there. I have to say, it is *very warm* and makes a big difference from a 700 down jacket to go to this 800 one. I like how it folds in the pocket and becomes a portable small pouch. I got this jacket to go climb Mt Shasta with backcountry skis in a two day trip with a base camp in the snow at 10k feet. I took only 3 layers, a wool hoodie, a windbreaker and this down. I wasn’t cold with it at all at 20F temperatures and I still had an extra layer i could have used under. At night, it was a great addition to my 20F sleeping back to stay warm as the temperatures were colder. Skiing with this jacket in cold morning on the mountain was warm enough as well.

Excellent for Active Sports

A surprise performer. This jacket is my go-to outer layer for mid-winter Vermont and New Hampshire hikes. Very light, but warm and cut big enough to wear over 3 layers below. Warmth requires air circulate under the final shell, and that's just what happens. I can wear this jacket comfortably from 15F to 30F with the 3 layers below (polypro base, grid pullover, micro grid jacket (Marmot Regulator Jacket). I do have one criticism, and this is a general criticism of Marmot jackets. It should have an interior zip pouch pocket that allows it to be stuffed and stored as temps warm and you want wear it on your belt. Marmot needs pay more attention to the technical uses of otherwise excellent pieces of clothing like the is.

Best down jacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This puts that brand that everyone gets that rhymes with begonia to shame. Not only is it A LOT warmer, its also A LOT lighter. Like significantly so. Im super impressed with this jacket. I ended up ordering a bunch of different jackets from different companies (couldnt go into stores) and this was the best by a longshot. If you need a super durable jacket that will stand up to scratches from rocks/trees, you might want something a bit heavier duty since its pretty lightweight but other than that, I couldnt ask for any more.

Outstanding Lightweight Backpacking Go-To Jacket

Purchased a Large one in red (more orange-ish as noted by other reviewers). This jacket provides excellent warmth. Tested in 30 degree weather and very comfortable. Can be used with your rain shell to keep wind and rain out (and warmth in) better when it gets nastier/worse. At 13.7 ounces, it is superior to other brands I've tried. Agree with other reviewers that you want to watch out for tears if backpacking (just wear another layer when in trees, etc.

Does Not Disappoint

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Men's Hype Down Jacket Select a rating below ★★★★★ ★★★★☆ ★★★☆☆ ★★☆☆☆ ★☆☆☆☆ . I bought the Minimalist jacket earlier this year & decided to pursue a "puffer" jacket for Xmas. This checks all the boxes! Lightweight w/o the bulk & generous warmth w/800 fill. The length is perfect, falling slightly below the waist & fit is true to size. My only recommendation - add a outer zip chest pocket & it'll be perfect!

Not Warmest

According to the product description, on a "warm, warmer, warmest" scale, it's warmest. It's not. A nice jacket if it's over 40 degrees. It will be returned.

Great light weight jacket.

Great jacket at an amazing price. A little bit of an odd colour but I like it. I'm tired of the typical black down jacket. It has personality without drawing attention. It's very light weight and durable. I haven't had the opportunity to use it in cold weather but feel confident it will serve me like my previous Marmot jackets.

Warmer and lighter than my NanoPuff jacket

Simple design but very high quality. I am 5'11", 168 lbs and ordered the large in Clear Blue. The back length is 28 1/2" and it weighs 13.0 oz, actually lighter than my Patagonia NanoPuff jacket (13.6 oz.) and has more than a factor two more loft. Roomy enough for heavy weight zip tee or vest.

Excellent fit, windproof, warm.

Super-lightweight, the Hype jacket is generous in its arm and waist length and in its shoulder room. The material is soft, smooth, and windproof. With 20 mph winds and 30°F, I went out with just a T-shirt and this coat--warm!
