Owned this helmet for years and never knew its potential until yesterday. I took a 30' whipper on Unimpeachable Gropping on the 3rd Pitch in Red Rocks. The rope caught behind ankle (my mistake). First thing to hit was my head when I was upside down. This helmet saved my life and prevented serious concussion. Saw stars and was able to climp back up 6 bolts to where I fell before bailing the climb. Massive scratches and barely warped shell, amazed. Time for a new helmet as a precaution. Many lessons were learned that day, but one thing for sure was a need to write this review! Thank you Black Diamond.

I used this for rock climbing, for our modified Haute Route, and mixed climbing (ice, snow, rock climbing) in Swiss Alps. It is a good decent one but slightly heavy. It fits very well to protect the head, but the adjustment belt is very hard to change and tighten/loosen up the strap and I had to take the helmet off every time. When you're climbing / mix climbing you want to make sure you can adjust the helmet without the need of taking it on and off. I hated the fact that I had to take off both gloves to adjust it in the cold alpine weather. The strap was also tight and wish they design it longer. Would not recommend it.

The title says it all. I'm not gonna lie - my main objective for a helmet purchase for my daughter was to find one in hot pink. There are plenty out there, but none of them are from brands that I trust or that carried the necessary impact certifications for caving. While we have not used it yet, it fits fine, is lightweight, and I have full confidence in its performance. My only wish is that there was a slightly higher end helmet available in this same color (like the half dome at least), but that's no fault of the Capitan. The helmet is perfectly capable, it's just not fancy schmancy and chock full of features.

This helmet has disrupted the price:performance ratio of helmets, delivering outstanding quality and functionality at a very reasonable price point. The interior of this model seems the same as the MIPS model, minus the MIPS yellow insert; leaving some empty space, IMO. I simply filled those spaces in with cushiony Velcro pads from "The Depot" and got myself a sweet customized fit. It has wonderful comfort, super light, looks "cool" and seems like it would take a beating. My only regret is not getting it in my favorite color - Yellow. But with it on, I don't know what color it is anyway, right? Recommend highly!

I’m a 30 year firefighter paramedic and have worn many helmets for long periods of time, and I can confidently say wearing the captain helmet is like wearing a baseball hat at the beach. Very comfortable and light weight with the security and protection of the black diamond name behind it. Keep it up BD you are crushing it

This helmets is light and quite adjustable. The tightener is not quite as easy as a dial, I find it easier to do when it’s not on my head. I bought the pink and blue and the colours are awesome. Vibrant! Would buy again.

Love it!! Fits well, feels like I’m not wearing anything and the pink is so bright! I love it! It also looks really good which is important to wanting to wear it! Will definitely protect he dome.

Lighter, look very nice and feel confortable; I have been wearing it for a long time without any annoyance, fit me very well (S/M - head circunference: 55cm). I am using it for rock climbing.
