Comfortable, Light, Protective, Stylish
Boulderer recently turned Lead-Climber so this is my first helmet and I am far from disappointed with my purchase. At first I thought it was too small but you just have to pull the plastic adjustable piece for the back of your head down and out of the helmet. The piece is hooked into the lining of the helmet during shipping so I didn't realize it pulls down. This is not a knock on the helmet at all, was totally my boneheadedness. It probably says this instructions and I just didn't read it. Anyway it's a super nice and protective helmet and at the lower end of the price range as far as the nicer helmets go. Not only that, but it looks dope too!
Poor Fit
I am all for increased protection of your head but unfortunately I won’t be able to use this helmet. I purchased the M/L size which I have comfortably worn in multiple different varieties of black diamond helmets but this helmet won’t even fit on my head at its largest size. It is so laughably small that it makes me wonder if the manufacturer incorrectly labeled the size on the inside of the helmet. Just a heads up to others considering buying without trying on in a store. Wish I didn’t have to give a star rating to review as it would probably be a fine helmet if it fit.
Solid helmet, short strap
This is a great helmet. I have only climbed in it once, but it is super stable on my head. No side to side or back to front movement. I like the full coverage of the ABS so I don't have to baby it as much. My only complaint is that the strap that the chin strap connects to is just a little too short. No matter how I slide the buckle along it the strap is still not below my ear so it rubs my ear lobe. If there was a way to extend this strap a little bit I would for sure give this helmet 5 stars. Once it's on and I'm climbing I didn't really notice it, but if I think about it I could get annoyed.
Mips is great, but it's hard to adjust
I'm excited that MIPS is now added to climbing helmets! This makes me more likely to backcountry ski in this helmet. It's a little bulkier than my vapor helmet, but for added protection and durability, it's a comprise I'm willing to live with. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to adjust. I have a small head, and I couldn't get the straps in the right configuration. The main straps with the buckle were fixed, so I couldn't adjust the side straps tight enough or in the correct configuration. If an adjustment system were updated to that like the vapor, I would have held on to this.
Good fit great protection
I use this Helmet daily climbing outdoors and within the first week it came in useful protecting me from several choss pieces during climbs. Protects head well and reduces pain and damage if you are put in a bad situation.
This helmet saved me
I took a fall to the deck while trad climbing. Hit my head and got knocked unconscious. Thanks to the extra side and back protection, I hit my helmet on the rocks instead of the base of my skull. I was able to get up under my own power and rappel down to the ground with some basic assistance from fellow climbers. I had a concussion but it could have been much, much worse. I replaced it with the same one with this same one. Ill trade the extra weight and bulk for extra protection any day of the week.
Comfort and safety
Wore my new helmet all day without having to fidget and adjust for comfort. Hardly knew I had it on. Also purchased this helmet for safety on the crag. Being on blood thinning medication I’m concerned about a possible head injury. I’m always conscious of safety but accidents do happen. Thanks for the added protection.
Perfect fit
This helmet fits better than any other helmet I owned in the past. Once adjusted, it stays where you need it on your head, without traveling back and forth. It is also very comfortable and once on I don’t even remember it’s there. I like also that is not bulky, but compact and well designed.
Captain MIPS
My father bought a MIPS helmet for road biking and swears by it. The technology seemed like a good choice to have for climbing so I chose the MIPS captain instead of the original. It fits well (sized according to BD recommendations) , looks good, and I feel confident it can help protect me.
Great Helmet
Very comfortable and fits securely. I love that it has MIPS technology and a lot of venting for warm days in the sun. The buckle is incredibly secure (which I realized is not something to take for granted after using the Petzl Meteor). 10/10 recommend!
