Bedding for Car Camping in the Cold

Having gotten cold on our last two (car) camp outs, I went looking for a rectangular sleeping bag that could unzip and keep us both warm overnight. Probably this 20° bag or the 30° version would have worked, but I went for the warmer version since the extra size and weight aren’t an issue for car camping. (Our other sleeping bags are all mummy style from our backpacking days and would be hard to get in and out of when zipped together.). Judging from the thickness of the insulation, the 20° rating seems appropriate. As backpackers, we know that the secret to keeping warm at night is an insulating pad/mattress underneath. (Sleeping on an air mattress or in the back of your car with rear seats folded down will NOT work). I splurged on the highly recommended Exped Duo self-inflating mattress for both insulation and comfort when it went on sale last year. It fits almost perfectly in the back of our car, as shown in the first picture. I’ve also shown the air mattress and the unopened sleeping bag, so you can see the sleeping bag is more than wide enough. There are three nice, unusual features of this bag. The one I noticed first is the large, flat, red zipper. (pictured) Often, traditional zippers snag on the storm baffle, so this variation seems much less likely to snag as you open or close the bag. Secondly, the cord system used to secure the rolled up bag is a little nicer than traditional tie straps. Last was a hardly noticed pair of black toggles on the zipper side of the bag (pictured). I realized there were loops on the opposite side of the bag. So these toggles will keep your bag folded in half when you’re ready to roll it up! I withheld one star due to the stuff sack. The provided stuff sack design is used for bags that are designed to be stuffed into the sack, like down bags. Once in, the compression straps reduce the LONG dimension of the bag while the bag’s circumference remains fixed. However, this type of bag is designed to be rolled up. I was able to quickly roll up the bag and fit it into the stuff sack without too much trouble. But when breaking camp, who wants to hassle with packing your bag? The right kind of stuff sack should compress along the CIRCUMFERENCE of the bag, not lengthwise.

Too small but warm.

The bag is very warm. It kept me quite toasty in the low 30s. However it meant for a child or an extraordinarily tiny adult. If you sleep with your arms at your side all night then this is the bag for you. The cords to wrap around the bag are ridiculous. I will be returning this bag.

Soft and easy to get back to compact!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I find that items that say “compact” can be hard to get back into its tiny space. This took me under 60 seconds to get back into its compact sack! The first picture is before getting it out of the package, the last is after! I like how long this sleeping bag is. For reference we have a king size bed and it covered the length of it. It has a pocket by the head of the sleeping back to help not lose important items. Material is soft and water resistant on the outside.

Coleman is the best

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free from Influenster and Coleman in exchange for my honest review. This standard sized rectangular sleeping bag is perfect for camping trips. It is compact when folded and very easy to use. For a petite person like me, I'm 5 feet tall, sleeping in the sleeping bag is very comfortable and spacious. In terms of keeping warm, it's perfect. I didn't think it looked that flimsy, but the sleeping bag's warmth is great. It looks really high-class from the materials, zippers, everything is quality. Harmonious colors. It's really worth owning it for many other cases besides camping and traveling. I can use it to sleep in other emergencies right at home

Easygoing sleeping bag!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s light and easy to wash and roll. It’s warm and great for a tend. If you don’t mind the bare ground this is just fine. But some might use a mat for better cushioning or protection. I recommend it because it’s easy to wash and carry. Great material and the zipper is high quality as well!

Amazing sleeping bag

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am so impressed with them impact sleeping Bag 40D ReCt TGR C001 from Coleman! It folds up easy to put into the carrying case, it’s compact and easier to carry. It keeps you warm and has more cushion to keep you cozy! There is a pocket inside the sleeping bag to put your phone at night. It is large in size but what makes me happy is how warm and snug you feel inside of it! This is by far one of the best sleeping bags I’ve had!

Keeps the heat in

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great sleeping bag. The outer bag it comes in makes it super easy to carry and great for when it comes time to store it. The sleeping bag itself has a great zipper that keeps heat in and glides smoothly when zipping and unzipping the bag. I’m 5’ 9” and this bag is long enough that I can get it up to my eyes when I’m inside of it. It does a great job at keeping the heat in which makes this sleeping a bag a necessity when sleeping in colder areas. There is a pocket at the chest with a Velcro closure that is great for stashing something small. Folding, rolling and putting is easy and only take a few minutes. Overall, this is a quality bag that will get a lot of uses out of it.

Comfortable, warm, compact

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this sleeping bag! It comes in a really small, tight bag. It takes a little practice to get it back in after you've gotten it out, but it definitely can be done! The material is thick and comfortable. The zipper can be a little tricky since the material is so thick, but it does a really great job of keeping air out and keeping me warm. It is great sleeping bag that keeps you warm and is easy to pack in and out.

Comfortable and compact

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great all around sleeping bag. It is nice and warm without being too heavy for warmer weather. It folds up nice and compact for easy travel. It is also a great size with lots of room for taller people. It also seems durable and is made by a reputable brand which is always nice. If you are looking for a nice, compact, comfortable sleeping bag this is a great one to check out if it’s in your price range.
