I've been a loyal fan of ON for many years, and I am so glad they finally came out with one in muted colors. These have significantly more cushioning compared to the Cloud X and Cloud Flow. I've only used these for casual daily wear since the MIDNIGHT/OLIVE color goes with pretty much everything; I also prefer wide-toe box trail running shoes. I have not experienced any deteriorating fabric issues mentioned in other reviews. Still, that issue could be related to an individual's walking/running mechanics. ORDER A HALF SIZE UP. I am a 9.5 in every pair of ON's I own except this one.
Most of the materials in these shoes began to deteriorate after only a few days of light walking on level sand and paved paths. I didn't even have the chance to do trail running in them. One would assume that "Swiss Engineered" meant high quality, but this is certainly not the case. These are the second pair of On Clouds I bought. The others also deteriorated within a couple of weeks. I was hoping it was a one off, but it was not. Very disappointed.
These shoes are very comfortable for everyday walkability and have good grip for light trails. However, I'm surprised how poorly they've worn out after only a few months of use for regular wear - I only wear them for walking around, not working out. Within a month, the fabric by my inner ankle on each shoe wore away and created a hole. The treads are significantly worn down, making them no longer grippy as they once were. It's disappointing that the shoes are falling apart so quickly.
These shoes were great for the first month. I do some light running and wear them to work some as I’m on my feet throughout the day. After a month they lost a lot of their support and the inside lining was disintegrating. I continued to wear them and telling myself it was ok but they just really start to fail me. 6 months in and the shoes feel completely dead and the toe box on one has fallen apart completely. My wife got Ultras the same day I bought these and she runs a lot more than I do and her shoes still look new and are in great shape. Bummed that $140 shoe didn’t last hold up.
Bought these in person in store off of a recommendation from an employee. They felt great and the employee raved about them. Really wanted to like them, but the quality isn't there. Only been to the trail twice in these and the top is already tearing apart. My other cheap pair of trail shoes lasted me over a year and a half with heavy use. Don't think they will last. Hopefully it's just my pair and not all of them.
Given the hype around ON shoes and seemingly every other person is wearing a pair, thought I'd give the brand a try. Big mistake. These are not only the worst running shoes I've ever worn but close to the worst shoes I've worn. First, the shoes run extremely small. Had to size up a whole size, Even then the shoes are narrow and the toe box is crowded. Second, as others have mentioned, the shoes start to squeak within a couple days of wearing. Lastly, the quality is terrible. Walked through a couple airports and the materials started wearing out even before I hit the trails. Would never trust these on trail. Luckily, REI has a great return policy and I was able to exchange for Brooks Cascadia trail shoes, which are tried and true trail runners. Skip these and look elsewhere.
This is the quickest I've ever decided to return a pair of shoes. Within just a week of wear, these shoes have developed a terrible squeak each step I take. Embarrassing for me, and disgraceful for this company to be selling such a low quality show for this price. I feel scammed. I ignored the other negative reviews (silly me), when I should have trusted other peoples' bad experiences. Don't make the same mistake I did... look at other options. I am very thankful for REI's return policy, but it would be better if they didn't sell junk like this in the first place.
Bought this shoe for kicking around Denver metro and Colorado over the summer. Within two weeks the fabric around the front of the entry was frayed on both sides. I've never seen a shoe wear in that location before. The shoe was not that comfortable and the fabric micro-fine mesh upper would trap dirt inside of it that was impossible to remove or wash out. After about a month it had collected dirt and debris that could not be removed. Overall, very unhappy with the On shoe's. This was my first try with the brand. Won't be buying again.
This is my first pair of On shoes, I bought the creek mint which is such a cool color combo to use for mild trail walking. The shoes are extremely comfortable but I have some problems with them. First, somehow the design allows debris to get between the mesh outer and fabric inner and it’s really hard to clean out. Mine look permanently dirty, no matter how much I clean. Second, the soul gets a bit too “squished” down when I’m walking. I’m on the heavier side, but didn’t expect it to show as so in my shoes as it’s never happened before in other pairs. I wouldn’t buy On again.
I love these shoes, but as so many reviewers have pointed out, they are way too fragile for the price point. First, these are extremely comfortable shoes. Aside from the Brooks Ghosts, these are the only shoes on the market that really give me no fuss. I purchased these for long distance trail running. I used them primarily on road during winter for less than 100 miles when I noticed there was pretty substantial wear on the bottom of them. Then I took them onto a trail to run, and the first thorn they came in contact with ripped the top layer right off the shoe. I took them back to REI and returned those. I've since bought a second pair that I will be using exclusively for lighter trail runs on trails that I know have no substantial overgrowth.
