Not impressed
I was disappointed to see that no pockets fit an iPhone. The images on your website led me to believe there was a side pocket. My Sherpa 7” short only have the ridiculously shaped hip pockets and a zipper pocket in the middle of my back. Did you ever measure an iPhone when designing the pockets?
They’ll figure it out one day.
Why is it that running apparel companies cannot match the size of a back cell phone pocket to the size of a modern cell phone? At least my Motorola razor from 2002 can fit in the undersized rear pocket.
Buyer beware
Liner came apart after 3rd run :(
Great all-around short for running, cross-training, gym work etc... Bought one pair 3 years ago and just bought two more. - Zipper pocket is placed ideally at small of back instead of hip crease (which can irritate in some positions). - Mesh pockets sewn into waist hold gels securely enough. - Elastic hip band keeps keys clipped to hip secured to waist and prevents keys from pulling down shorts. - Light material of short prevents it from feeling too heavy in warm temps. I live in Western Washington state and wear this year-round, all-conditions. Brooks hit the design and all features right on target. Can't recommend any changes. Brooks should keep this product in circulation for many generations of runners and athletes to come.
Awesome short - my favorite from all brands
Outstanding update. I’ve had multiple pairs of prior versions (incl the ones with the impossible side pockets). The fit and materials are A-1 this time. The waistband is dynamite and the new side pockets definitely borrow from the Patagonia Striders (that’s a good thing IMO) and work well. My only concern is the sizing in terms of whether you’re a small, medium or XL, whatever. I’m 5’9”, 150, 30” waist and I need the XS? The smalls last year in the old version were falling off my waist? I’m a small in every brand under the sun but need an XS in this short. It’s odd. I worry if I need another pair that they’ll be out of XS like they were last year when I burned out an old pair. Fantastic short that I will buy more of, just not understanding sizing.
Great, but...
I love Brooks clothing! The material is incredibly light and very silky feeling. The waistband is important, and this one is great! The fit is also great. I only had one problem which was a deal breaker for me. There are no pockets, just 2 pouch like places on each side. I was not comfortable running with anything I was not comfortable losing in these pouches. I also like regular pockets if I wear these to run errands and such.
Unsure about new design.
3-star rating because I'm not really comfortable with the waistband. I'm used to the traditional waistband with drawstring so this is a change, but it may also be a sizing issue. My shorts in the past have been medium, but these feel loose both around the waist and with the inner liner. I may be sending these back and trying a smaller size. Overall, the shorts are constructed well with plenty of pockets for storage.
My new favorite trail running shorts!
Finally an upgrade to trail running shorts - the tall waistband is so much more comfortable than other shorts. Stays stable even after heavy sweating and long time running. The fit and finish of these short is amazingly comfortable and keeps the body dry. Loved them so much I ordered another pair in a different color. These are my new go-to shorts for any run longer than an hour. Also great for gym workouts.
Great fabric
The fabric feels fantastic for hot weather. Very lightweight and fast drying so that it is not sticking to you. The pockets make sense and are useful for running. Waistband is very nice, but the drawstring knot somewhat interferes with the band laying nice and flat in the front. The color combination of the gold with blue, eh.. not a favorite of mine, but I've seen worse. Overall, I do really like the shorts.
Bizarre Pockets Ruin Shorts
Awful pockets than ruin some otherwise good shorts. The zipper phone pocket doesn’t fit an iPhone. The mesh side pockets aren’t stable — I lost a mask from one of them on the first run. The lack of even one side pocket is ridiculous — you end up with nowhere to quickly store a credit card or empty silicone water bottle after a run or while doing post-run errands.
