Wonderful High quality tent. It's definitely a 3 - 4 person 3 season tent. I'm a big guy 6"3" 250lbs and usually tents feel really small. But this one is just right the head space is a plus and you can comfortably fit 4 people in this tent. The quality and attention to detail is amazing. Requires at least two people to set up. Can be used as a canopy alone or the full tent setup. I bought it for my wife and 2 kids. It's the best purchase I've made this year.
Awesome tent - you've read the rest below, I'm just here to say a couple things: 1. Doesn't HAVE to be huge - you can not assemble the "garage" part and the footprint is just the same as any other decent sized 4-person tent. 2. If you want it huge, it's huge. Garage-majal type of big. I love it, and it's exceptionally solid. 3. Included photos of setup - the only partial confusing step is attaching the green "X" poles - see pic for location, then it's all gravy.
This tent is solid. We used it for the first time on the beach and it was very windy. It was the most secure tent on the beach. It took us a while to put up the first time, but we think it was more because of the windy conditions in the blaring sun. It will definitely be a lot faster to put up next time. The vestibule area was a lifesaver the sun and wind protection during the day and we used it for our portable toilet at night. Having the option for a mesh window in the front and the back was great for circulating the air in the tent during warm nights. The tent is very spacious for two adults and one dog. Our only complaint is that out of the bag one of the guy lines was frayed (we’ll see if they have a replacement) and one of the flap was stuck on a zipper, and when we gently tried to remove it, it tore very easily. We know the versatility of the tent will be useful for future camping trips. We had people checking out the tent and breaking their necks to have a longer look. LOL
This is the first car camping tent I've purchased at a price that's above one hundred bucks. Purchased it at a deep discount though. All I can say is that after using it a few times, it's well worth the money even if you purchased it above six hundred bucks. One of my friends remarked that our tent was way better than anything else at the campground -- "the Apex Predator tent" I think she called it. First off, the ability to use this as either a full camping tent with a sleeping area or a canopy tent is underrated. Did you arrive at a park later than you wanted and can't find a picnic table with shade? No problem. Plop this rain fly directly over the picnic table and you have yourself a nice place to sit under the shade of your tent rain fly. Roll up the side walls and you can have an airy breeze flow through the tent with plenty of ways to enter and exit your picnic table area-- no hollow tent cave feeling here. After fully setting up the rain fly canopy, it's super sturdy. You can lift it up over a picnic table and set it down off to the side where you can finish assembling the interior tent area and footprint for sleeping. The guy lines will probably make this impossible to blow away. Inside the tent area, once properly setup, is very well thought out. Lots of pockets to store your stuff. Lots of ways to roll down windows for a breeze to flow through. Was in breezy weather and it got down to about 40 at night up in California's Los Padres, but I was comfortably warm inside the zipped up tent. Because the interior tent is not completely sealed up from the outside, it ventilates well so it's not super stuffy. I am looking forward to try this out in more frigid weather--it's not designed for it, but I just want to put it to the test since it felt okay during a cooler night. I do have a good sleeping pad though, which I'd have anyway in colder weather. Setup is actually easy once you go through the motions a couple of times. You could even do it by yourself. I've read other people complain that it's complicated. Yeah it's not a inflatable tent or a spring tent, but it's totally manageable. My main complaint is that you have to buy the foot print separately. And the original foot print isn't available right now, so I used the wonderland 4 foot print -- not a perfect fit, but a good fit. I wish I could extend out the social area with a foot print and a mud room, but it looks like I'm going to have to buy something for one of the other Wonderland tents and try to make it work for this X tent. Lastly, I wish I could buy a divider for the interior room, and possibly an interior tent that uses the entire rain fly area, that way you have an option of having a lot of interior space if needed.
The perfect tent. Set-up was straight forward and done alone with no issues.
I'm definitely a tent nerd and am looking for the next best thing all the time. I wasn't going to consider the Wonderland X as part of my wish list because (a) the price was out of my budget (b) it is listed as a four person tent (c) reported difficulty of putting it up. The price problem disappeared when their sale dropped the cost by 75% so I bought it and thought it would work for shorter trips where I need less room. Once I pitched the tent, I realized that the layout and size of the tent area was bigger than my other 4 person tents and that in the W X, 4 adults could actually sleep comfortably in there, even with two single cots. And the cool vestibule is larger than I thought from the photos. As for assembly, I'm a 5'2", 66 year old female that isn't athletic but active, and I was able to assemble it by myself. I had difficulty with the last two short poles due to the tension on the rainfly structure but I took out some of the other poles out of the grommets to release tension and got them in. First try took me 55 mins, taking my time on a hot day. Second time took 40 mins but I think I could get it done quicker if I weren't so fussy. A step stool would make easier for those of us who are vertically challenged. Well worth it if I'm staying for 4 or 5 nights for the comfort and space. The tent is heavy but each item (poles, stakes, rainfly, tent) has an individual bag so it's easy to seperate them if you are walking any distance. Taking it down was much easier and took about 20 mins if I stuffed the tent and rainfly in the sacks instead of folding them. I bought both the ground clothes when they were on sale as well and that did make the vestibule feel like part of the tent. I don't usually like white tents but because of the quality of this fabric, it is not see through. The poles, the fabrics, the design are all top notch. I bought it because it was a bargain but it by far my favorite tent ever and helped me recover from end of the Kindgom line of tents. I'm thinking of building a wood deck and stretching an awning tarp over the tent and leaving it up all next summer in my forest.
Was not as big and grand as I was expecting for the price but it is an excellent tent. Like other reviewers said directions were not great but once you get it up and understand it’s easy. Took me a little over an hour to set it all up and get it guyed out but it was also very windy. Now that I understand how it all goes I can get it up in about 20min by myself. In the description it says: “Comes with 20 stakes, 16 reflective guylines with cleat-lock tighteners, 4 additional guylines with cleat-lock tighteners and a pole repair sleeve” Mine only came with 16 stakes, 8 guy lines and no pole repair sleeve. Also, feel like a tent this nice and expensive should come with a footprint at least for the “tent” part. This tent makes a great car camping tent for 2. Took it out with my wife and 2 toddlers and while totally doable it was cramped. At the same time with the right gear and set up you could easily sleep 6 (just using the rain fly). That being said it would be awesome if it was designed to have a tub floor that would clip into the rain fly to keep the floor dry when just using the rain fly.
Overall, a solid and versatile tent. I think it's unparalleled in its versatility, but it comes at a cost of $ and ease-of-setup. What I liked: -Most robust poly material and zippers I've owned. A step up from the Wawona 6. -Doors can be zipped up or down, or tied up as needed. You can use them to cover an external table, pickup tailgate, or just drive the tailgate under the vestibule. -Ventilation is adjustable, and for the most part seems suitable for hotter weather as well as colder -Buy-1-get-1 tent and shelter What I didn't like: -I couldn't justify this purchase if it wasn't on sale for $600 or so -Setup is a pain. Instructions lack specifics and details. For example, setting up the first two "long poles" doesn't clearly state on which side the orange fabric should lie. It needs to lie on the outside so the tent can be propped up. Neither the pictures nor the verbiage conveyed this. In addition, many other steps were quite cumbersome to read. Please REI, make a video of initial setup. Also, account for 1 person setup. In my case, I needed to stake down the first two "long poles" to act as if I had someone helping. -Setup is the most involved of any tent in it's class. If you're looking for the most versatile and roomy tent in its class, then this is it -- but, you will pay in setting up and tearing down -Zippers get stuck on material if you're not careful. This wasn't a problem on my Wawona 6 which means it's design-related. -The inner tent/sleeping area is affixed to the roof by a few buckles and a ton of loops and rods. I'm not sure why they didn't just use all buckles... That would save a lot of time and frustration. If you're on the fence, get it. You might want to have a quicker to setup and smaller tent in your back pocket incase the campsite is small, you're with a small party, or you're only staying a short amount of time.
Despite how large this tent is, set up was very easy and straight forward. It met all of our expectations and I am super happy with the purchase!
This tent is awesome. The only things negative I can say are it’s too expensive not to have attachable/detachable accessories and also would rather it be a 6 person not a four. But other than that it is a great roomy tent. Though it takes about 40 minutes I can put the tent up by myself and I am a middle aged woman that stand 5’2. To see the inside check out my YouTube video
