I have used my new Skyward 6 with my family of four on two separate trips. This tent is easy to set-up and there is allot of room. There are many ways to adjust ventilation to provide airflow and a large protected vestibule. The tent stood up to high wind conditions, driving rain storms, and snow. I highly recommend this tent!
The Skyward 6 lives up to its name, easily accommodating six people and some gear in the main tent space. Out of the bag in relatively gusty winds with a toddler “helping” me, I was able to setup the tent in 17 minutes. The directions are easy to follow and only had one rework step on the rain fly. We spent the night in about 40F and the tent kept warm and without any condensation. The second use was on a weekend trip and again the tent went up easily in gusty conditions and stayed condensate free. The interior of the tent is big, both vertically and in square feet. I’m 5’10” and can stand completely upright in nearly all parts of the tent. A nice feature included is the six gear pockets at the sides of the door of the tent. The front vestibule is spacious as well, however when unzipping it front the inside the vestibule flap material tends to get stuck in the zipper. After several nights use, this is the biggest drawback of the tent. The hardware seems very durable (poles and stakes) and they did not bend or warp in the gusty winds and rocky Tennessee soils. Overall this is a very well designed tent that seems durable to last for many seasons.
On sale for about $225, this tent is an excellent value! Tall enough to stand inside. Easy enough to set up with a single person, but easier with two. The marketing advertised four guy lines, presumably for the four corners. My tent actually came with six guy lines, but there are tie outs for seven. The tent also comes with 10 stakes, but can be used with 13 if you use six for the main tent, and seven for all the guy lines. The cord feels like good quality and has a tiny reflective flag on it. Fully reflective cord would be a nice bonus. I spent four days in the rain and everything inside stayed dry which is the most important aspect of a tent. It's more than plenty of space for one person, but is very comfortable to sit inside with the vertical walls.
The product itself is excellent and deserves a higher rating, but REI sent a clearly used tent (see pictures) full of (forest) dirt and mud (inside and underneath the tent). Very upsetting to get a used and dirty product when I bought a discounted but supposedly new product. Even if labeled as refurbished one would expect the product to be somewhat clean, but it was not the case.
I bought this tent for first time car camping with my family of 4 with kids aged 6 and 3. I grew up camping and know the basics, but it’s been a long time and with two energetic kids I wanted a tent that would be easy to set up and give us some comfortable wiggle room. I also wanted to make sure I was purchasing quality camping gear that will last us through many years of adventures and not end up in the garbage next season. This tent has so far exceeded all expectations. My husband and I had 100 plans to set up the tent BEFORE we left for our first camping trip, but real life ended up with us throwing all the camping gear in the car with tags on 1/2 hour before departing without any dry runs. Turns out this tent is really easy to set up. Best with two people because of the size, but it only took 10 min without any prior tent building in the last 17 years. Will be 5 minutes next time. Lots of room to stand and spread out, though fit our family of 4 perfectly, wouldn’t want anymore than 4 in there even though it’s a 6 person tent. We bought the coordinating footprint and it did its job of protecting the tent and keeping out the dew. The zippers and poles are clearly good quality and will last us years. The vestibule is a nice touch and a great way to add privacy and a place to take off shoes, we put a picnic blanket down as a floor for a soft and clean place to keep shoes so the the tent doesn’t get dirty.
Good size and comfortable. For a summer tent... Pretty good actually! For colder weather I recommend you look else wear. The main problem is the front door of this tent in half mesh. THERE IS NO SOLID DOOR. If you want privacy, you have to zip up the porch, which can get pretty annoying after a time. In the cold... This door just leaks heat. Even if you are using a tent heater, don't expect much heat to stick around. The frustrating part is that this problem is so easy to see and would have been so easy to solve, but they did not. I'm playing with the idea of sewing my own Velcro door flap onto the tent, but wish there was an official solution.
We love the ease of this tent. Easy to set up. It is simple and we love the fact that we are tall and can stand in this tent. The one downfall is the entry vestibule is awkward to open as the zipper easily gets stuck and the vestibule is very small. We put the awning up on our last trip and eliminated the vestibule and hung a towel across the sheer door for privacy. This worked much better - will be making a “curtain” for our next trip. We haven’t been able to leave the rain fly off at night yet due to rainy nights or too much ash from camp fires, but look forward to sleeping under the stars.
If you are looking for an entry level affordable family tent this is the one for you! The materials and design are great. The tent poles feel premium and the tent stakes are durable (yay no more bent stakes). The tent material is of good quality and should hold up to punctures and keep the water out. The internal mesh pockets provide a ton of storage and there are fabric rings at each corner and in the middle for hanging up gear or lights. The zippers are really good quality (no snags) and they feel like they will hold up over time. There is a ton of space inside of the tent, and I could easily stand-up without hitting my head on the ceiling (I am 6’0). The storage bags are durable and slightly oversized so you don’t have any issues storing the gear. The directions for setup are attached to the storage bag, water resistant, and really convenient. You don’t need to worry about losing the instruction manual or having it damaged by water. Setting up the tent is very easy and takes around 10 minutes with two people. Setting up the tent solo is awkward, but manageable. If you are setting up the tent by yourself raising the tent up by connecting the roof poles to the side poles is a balancing act. I think this tent is best for warmer months, but will be comfortable down to around 32-40F. My family and I loved sleeping under the stars with the rain cover off, spectacular view! There are a few missing “premium” features that would be nice to have. The first one is mesh windows on the side of the tent. This would provide additional airflow. The second second missing feature is privacy covers for the front door. The rain cover will give you privacy, but It would be nice to have additional privacy without the cover. I would of also liked an additional back door with a window versus just a window. Lastly, I wish the tent came with a foot print (you can purchase one separately) that extended to a front doormat. Overall I give this tent a 4/5. It is an amazing tent that checks most of my boxes. With one or two missing features mentioned above it is easily 5/5. Cheers and happy camping!
Was very easy to set up! Awning poles are not included even though shows it in photo, nowhere says not included. I’m 6ft 6in and could stand up fully in the center. Camped with Wife, son, dog, and me with plenty extra space to put stuff and spread out. Quality seems to be well built!
Compared to a similar layout by a US classic named brand, this tent is a step up. You get metal poles, better stakes & stay lines, and more sleeping room. I’m 6’2”, fantastic high roof, and can fit to sleep “left to right” beside the back window. A family of 6 with youngish kids could actually sleep. Added the 6’ tarp poles and a 6x8’ tarp to upgrade the front entry, happy I did. However: with “shade porch” set up, the wide front door screen needs DIY privacy curtain if you need to change clothes modestly. Also, tent’s lack of low vent zippers & mid point ground stake points for optional security vs wind is kinda odd. Maybe those features would break the price point, which was a bargain on sale. Will make do without.
