I have owed Prana pants in the past and I put them through multiple adventure races, over the course of 4 years and they are still holding up. I've worn these Prana Zion 2 pants twice, and put them in the wash once and now I am dealing with worn spots on the thigh and what seems like lint balls in the same areas. I have even seen loose threads that I had to cut with scissors. I'm really sadden by this because of how much I love the first pair I bought. Not likely to purchase another pair unless the quality of the product changes.
I loved these pants for a few months. Comfort and look were on point. From office to doing yoga, these felt and looked great. Then, I started to notice them pulling in some places. Then, it was everywhere. I used to wear the pants all the time, now I just wear them to the climbing gym. Pretty disappointed.
I bought my pants after reading bad reviews and really tried to like them. Unfortunately the fabric is nowhere near close to the original one. My new 6m old pants look worse than 5y old pants that I dragged through snow, mud and bushes countless time. The new fabric feels cheap, small lint balls started to appear all over the place and it's also shiny. I attached photos of new pants on the left and old on the right
These new iteration of zion pants is inferior, do not buy! First, the fabric is garbage. It piles easily especially in the high wear areas like the seat. This is by no means a wear resistant fabric and going through any sort of brush will wear this fabric to shreds. Second, which is the kicker, the button is flimsy. While on a hike, mine finally broke off and I had to complete the hike with a paracord tied around my waist. But at least I can finally throw this garbage into the dump and get different pair from another brand.
The OG zions were my favorite "do everything" pants including, obviously, hiking. These though are no where near the originals. First they have this sheen to them and swishes when you walk. The originals where matte and stylish, these feel like swishy nylon gym pants. But, the most annoying feature is that button which is now plastic and sewn, not metal and riveted. After wearing these for a few days the button stitching is starting to stretch out and I hope it doesn't pop lose when I'm out and about.
I purchased several pairs of these to supplement the original version that I purchased a few years ago. The originals I have are doing SO well in terms of wear. That is to say, they show almost no wear whatsoever and have held up under a variety of conditions, like hiking, climbing, and daily wear. The new Zion II version is just awful in comparison. First off, they did away with the metal button fastener at the waist. Second, the material is inferior. It wrinkles more easily and the worst part is that it pills in the crotch and other areas. I can't believe these are $100 each. Today I called Prana to complain about the issue. Turns out they've heard lots from buyers about this "upgraded" model. I was told Prana is re-launching the original version in fall of 2024. I'm very happy to hear that they took action on the feedback they received, but I cannot in good faith recommend the version II to anyone looking for a good pair of pants.
I have a few pairs of these, the ones I bought a few years ago are still in great shape. The ones I bought within the last year seem like they melted in the washing machine, they are covered in all these little balls I have to pick off. Using the same setting on the machine as the old pair. I wish I could get my money back, but I have probably owned them too long. Wouldn't buy again.
Prana! Why would you do such a thing? I have 3 pairs of the old design and wear them almost daily. I just got a new pair and I am so disappointed. Why In the world would Prana switch to such a poorly designed plastic button? I would really like to know this. And the material seems so cheap and looks cheap also. Like $5 pants cheap. Shiny. These are definitely being returned. I am so sad. Maybe I can find more of the old ones online. I will be unfortunately looking for a new brand now. I had got 2 of my friends into Prana pants also. And they too are both very dissatisfied. Which is sad because We were just saying we were lifetime customers, for sure. Prana, go back to the old design and We will be back.
i'm really sad that prana chose a cheap flimsy plastic button to replace the really strong metal button which was on the original design. i'm not sure i can trust this button to hold my pants up while i'm out on the trail. i've been a repeat customer for years, but with this bad design change i will be looking for alternatives.
Much less durable and less stretchy than the original Stretch Zion pants. If you can find the original pants buy those instead. Otherwise I'd just look for a different product entirely as the new version is not worth buying. I don't understand how a 6 month old pair of Stretch Zion II can look more worn than my original 7 year old pants. What did they do?
