Less convenient than expected but does the job

I've had the Camelbak Eddy 25oz as my go-to water bottle for ages so I thought that upgrading to the 50oz could make things easier for my partner and I to have a shared water bottle around for road trips, short walks, camping, etc. PROs - Very hardy, haven't gotten any dings on it yet after taking it on a number of hiking and camping trips - Opening size makes for easy drinking without spilling, even in a moving car or while walking - 50oz is a lot so this reduces the need to refill often if you consume a lot of water or are sharing the bottle - Handle is solid and a good size if you need to carry the bottle by hand around a lot, though not the most comfortable if hauling this hefty bottle for many miles CONS - Doesn't fit in cup holders and barely fits in mesh side pockets on a backpack so it's inconvenient to have rolling around in the car or in a pack's main compartment - The magnetic closure seems nifty but does NOT actually seal the bottle so you can't just pop the top on and off quickly. The description omits to mention that this cap WILL LEAK if it's not screwed on closed! More than once now I've been surprised by spillage in my car because I hadn't screwed the top back on tight enough. (see photos) As others mentioned, the way this cap screws on and off just isn't the most intuitive. Overall, I'm lukewarm on this product. If you can get the hang of opening/closing it and have use cases for needing 50 oz (~1.5L) in a hard bottle (vs using a Camelbak bladder), then I'd recommend it as functions well. But personally, the bulky size and opening mechanism of this bottle wasn't that convenient for me. I'll likely keep using my Camelbak Eddy and Camelbak bladders more than this.

Nalgene alternative

I’ve been a lifelong nalgene user and I can say this bottle would be a great alternative. The rigid handle feels solid compared to the classic nalgene loop and the spout size is perfect for not splashing your face when on the move. However, opening the bottle cap is not intuitive for me. Once the cap is unscrewed, you have to pull up and slightly to the side so that the cap can clear the spout. Easily learnable, but the first few times I just kept unscrewing the cap to no avail. Overall, this bottle does exactly what you want, it holds your beverage of choice and does not leak. Would recommend this bottle for long workouts, office/WFH/day to day use, and base camp use.

big ol’ water bottle

This is a great water bottle. The plastic doesn’t have that ~plastic taste~ and the mechanism of the lid is really great. Only complaint is the lid isn’t the smoothest to twist on and off sometimes and it can be prone to getting a bit smelly if you don’t clean the lip between the flap and the opening. Would buy again.

Great High Capacity Bottle

First off, this bottle has a huge capacity and a really really great handle for a secure grip. It's light enough to not weigh you down more than the already heavy water it'll be full of. The magnetic cap keeper is nice, but not a huge game changer since I think we're all used to holding those back with a finger. The threading to close the lid is secure and not at all hard to engage but hasn't leaked on me once. The body and lid of the bottle are TOUGH, likely similar to a Nalgene, so I have full confidence that this could go on many adventures.

Pros and cons

Great water bottle size and handle - but that comes with some side effects. Also the magnetic top is fine while you’re sipping but remember, it’s not REALLY closed. So the drawbacks - It’s too big to fit in cup holders so not easy to use in while driving. And remember that magnetic top NOT closing? Well it spills or leaks if you forget that part. So be careful when throwing it in your bag or it tipping over on your car seat (because remember it doesn’t fit in the cup holder).

Work horse bottle

This water bottle is just simply a work horse. High capacity, indestructible. Fits perfectly in a "larger" vehicle cup holder but may not fit in all cup holders. I think the handle is a perfect size...not too big to be bulky but large enough for a firm grip. The only setback is the cap. The magnet sometimes get the cap stuck in the closed position and you can't tell if you have unscrewed it already and you end up just twisting more and more to open it. It's a minor detail but still a very reliable hydration system.

Insecure closure

The lid on this water bottle leaks if the bottle is accidentally turned on it’s side. You can lose the hydration you are depending upon way to easily.

Product great, store not.

This bottle is great. The magnetic cap holder makes a huge difference and it is the only 1.5L bottle that isn’t too wide to fit in most backpack mesh pockets. Word to the buyer though, order it online somewhere else as going into any REI store these days is a complete hassle. Their silly rules make shopping nearly impossible and their prices are way higher than other places.

Love it!

Ignore the whining about the screw-top/magnetic cap; it all works just fine--reliable, large-in-charge.

Great bottle by a great brand

Another great bottle by a great brand. I have the 50 fl. oz model with the magnet lid. Works great no weird bottle taste. The bottle seems very durable. I’ve dropped it a few times on accident onto rocks/hard ground and doesn’t have any marks/scratches yet.
