I love this absurdly expensive bike!

OK, so this bike is very expensive. Like my wife asked me how much it cost and I changed the subject. But if you're in an urban area, it's awesome. We live in NYC and have a car, but Monday through Friday I use this bike to do basically everything (e.g. Costco, bringing my kid to daycare, commuting to work, etc.) Outside of the price, the only real con I can mention is the weight. It is heavy and the frame makes it a bit awkward to maneuver up stairs, but that it.

Wonderful long-tail cargo bike!

This bike has been so fantastic for our family. Fun to haul two kids around in and so great to use for getting groceries or neighborhood adventures. Highly recommend getting several accessories especially the front rack (perfect for tossing a bag on) and the storm shield (great for keeping kids warm and happy in all cold/wind/precipitation). The belt drive on this version is worth the upgrade -- so nice to be able to change gears at a standstill.

Deeply disappointed

I wanted to love this bike (probably because of the $6,500 price tag). However, I cannot recommend. On its second use, the seat broke off. Apparently, this has been a recurring issue with Tern GSD bikes. After 1-2 weeks, the front brake had issues and an REI shop worker said that they had to "shave off paint" to re-install the brake pads -- not a good sign. Yesterday, it started making a loud noise in the back wheel / motor area as if the motor was stuck. I had to walk it back home. I will be returning it.

a second car

Love this bike. I got it in bright orange and 1 battery. We have done so much with this bike and I purchased it over all other for the accessories, 2nd battery option, bright color, and that it fits on a standard tire tie down bike rack. This allows me to not only use it as a second car (commute, daycare drop-off, hauling kegs, groceries) but because it’s the same length as a regular bike they we are also able to travel with it and have an instant car with us.

Great bike, especially if you're short on space.

Like the previous reviewer, if my husband asks me how much this bike was, I'd change the subject! But I have nothing but positive things to say about it. It's our family's third bike (one stolen RadWagon + currently have a Spicy Curry as well) and we've loved the way they flatten Seattle's hills so much that we realized we needed two to be able to transport our whole family. Our goal was to eliminate car journeys under 10 miles and so far have been very successful. We live up a steep flight of steps and need to store the bike inside in a hallway & this bike is amazing - the Spicy Curry pretty much takes up the whole width and most of the length, the GSD's footprint is just SO MUCH SMALLER. The bike initially felt less stable than the Spicy Curry - which I have found rides pretty much like a regular bike, despite being huge BUT I was pleasantly surprised to find that loading it up with a toddler and a week's groceries actually made it feel more stable. The continuous variable shifting on this one is as close to a throttle as you can get - turn the assist up to turbo and the shifter all the way down and you are off like a shot at lights. The Bosch motor on both bikes is great, it really does seem to be MORE effective, like I go faster, when the bike is loaded more heavily... maybe it's all in my head but I was averaging 5 MPH faster WITH the kiddo and groceries up the hill than without. It doesn't corner as well as the Spicy Curry, it does feel a little more unstable, but I think that's something I'll get used to as I've only had it for 4 days so far. The kickstand is rock solid and contributes to a smaller overall footprint as well, as do the very compact built in passenger footrests - much narrower than most other bikes I've seen. The auto lock and small movement you need to engage/disengage the kickstand has already been really helpful when parking it on bike racks out and about. I also like the built in front wheel lock, but I would never rely on that in the city and do always also lock with a huge chain. As a short person (5'4") I find the cockpit is just a better fit for me too than our Spicy Curry. If I was a little taller and we had the space, another Spicy Curry would've been great (we also love that bike!) but for small spaces and small people, the GSD has been a great fit.

Great family bike!

This has been the most unbelievably useful bike! I use it mostly for taking my kids to school over very hilly terrain and some gravel. It takes it all in stride. Was very easy to set up for two kids on the back (but not cheap). I would like to upgrade to a thud buster type seat post as I do feel some bumps as the wheels are on the smaller size. I will probably purchase the second battery to expand my range.
