New bikes go through a normal break-in period, after which they should be readjusted. All electric bicycles sold at REI include free adjustments for the defined period (one year after purchase date for non-members, or two years for REI Co-op Members)—as many times as you need. Included: derailleur and brake adjustments, lateral wheel truing, hub and headset bearing adjustments, tire inflation, chain lubrication and e-bike firmware updates. Great Ride, But Not Bosch Smart System Compatible
The Vektron P5i is a fantastic folding e-bike. The handling is nimble, the ride quality is excellent, the Gates belt drive is quiet and clean, and the folding design makes it easy to transport and store. As a bicycle, it feels refined and premium. My concern is with the technology package. The bike sold by REI is equipped with Bosch's older eBike System 2 (BES2) platform and the classic Intuvia display rather than Bosch's newer Smart System. As configured, it is not compatible with the Bosch eBike Flow app and lacks many of the connected features found on newer Bosch-equipped e-bikes, including ride customization, over-the-air updates, navigation integration, eBike Lock, and other Smart System functionality. This may not matter to every rider, but it was disappointing to discover on a premium-priced e-bike. Buyers researching the Vektron online will likely encounter references to Bosch Smart System features, so it is important to verify exactly which Bosch platform is included before purchasing. If connected features are not important to you, this is still an excellent folding e-bike. However, if you expect the latest Bosch technology ecosystem, you may be surprised to find that the REI configuration uses older hardware and is not compatible with the Bosch Flow app.
