Perfect for Alaska
This is a perfect bike for year round variable conditions in rough climates. The motor is powerful and quiet compared to other e-bikes I have ridden. I do not intend to use it for passengers, but am very happy with the carrying capacity and second battery/extended range potential. As a petite female I have no trouble handling this heavy and large frame. It helps to have precious experience with larger tires and a Bosch motor. To have this delivered to Fairbanks free of charge was a selling point for me- giving up color choice, tire size and model.
Not designed to transport kids
Despite what Tern's website shows, this bike is not designed to carry kids. Can you? Yes. But my experience trying to ride the Orox with two 35 lb toddlers was that it becomes highly unstable with side to side swaying due to their body motion as you pedal. After my wife and I tried multiple times, we reached out to Tern who confirmed that the frame was not designed to dampen that type of motion unlike all of their other models, and the frame designer at Tern did not agree that Tern should be marketing the Orox as a kid hauler to begin with. We returned the Orox after that conversation and ordered a GSD which could not be more different with kids onboard. The GSD is completely stable even when they flail around. That said, the Orox was amazing to ride with just fixed cargo. It was totally stable, any crack/pothole/bump was not something to be concerned about. One gripe though...the kickstand rattles non-stop. And I mean every bump results in it banging into the underside of the frame. It is nonstop noise while riding. Tern suggested zip tying a piece of rubber to make it quieter which I never honestly tried.
really with the kid hauler guy..
what spoiled **** spends $7000 on a bicycle without doing any research on it? and I wouldn't expect ANY bike to be stable with 2-35 toddlers kicking and shaking it around.. specially with a 5"7 140lb "man" riding them.. this is a great well built bike.. im touring with one now.. I have a pretty major load on mine.. and a trailer behind it.. and it does great
