Lots of Space but doesn't feel like a premium box

Pros: - Looks great - Tons of interior space - Attachment system allows for a level floor inside the box Cons: - Price - Wind Noise - Construction To give context to the review, I purchased this box at full price, and it is my first rooftop box. First of all, I love the way it looks on my car and it makes packing so much easier. It has tons of space. I was able to fit all of our folding chairs, sleeping bags, and a few duffels for our weekend trip. The level floor on the inside of the box makes packing super easy since you don't have to worry about arranging things around the clamping mechanisms. This was one of the main selling points of this box for me. The main flaws for this box come down to wind noise, construction, and quality. For the price, I was expecting a premium box, but that's not really the feeling I get. When the box is fully tightened down and mounted as far back as it can go, I can grab the nose or tail and easily wiggle it up and down about half an inch. When I'm driving on the freeway, I can look through the sunroof and see it moving up and down as well. For clarity, the clamped areas stay in place, but the box housing is very flexible. I'm not sure if all boxes do this, but for the price, I was expecting some more rigidity. The wind noise is also really noticeable. My car is relatively quiet on the freeways, but with this on top, it always sounds like it's a windy day outside. The noise is likely worse in my case due to my panoramic sunroof, so your level of dissatisfaction may vary. Lastly, the build quality and design leave much to be desired. The top feels pretty flimsy when you try to open it or close it (even when using both hands), and the hinges seem to have a lot of play in them. So much so that I checked to make sure the screws were fully tightened (they were). The hinges have so much movement, that upon light braking, the front hinge hits the front metal support rail and causes a "clinking noise". I was able to fix this with a couple of zip ties and some foam, but I feel like this isn't something you should need to do on such an expensive roof box. Maybe I'm just picky but the pro/con balance is favoring the con side right now and I think I might end up returning this box. This is a shame because the interior layout is great and it looks SO good, but the flimsy construction is hard to swallow at this price point.

Great box for our Outback

Nice box. Looks great on the car, holds a bunch of stuff, and is quiet on the road. Love the matt black finish(don't like glossy black at all). Easy install. Even fit inside the Outback to haul and install at home.

Looks great and fits in our 7ft garage.

Not much to say. It looks great! Has a flat floor, unobstructed by clamps. The semi-gloss steath coating on the top half looks awesome! The front of the box, does exbit a small amount of wobble at highway speeds.

Holds it all and very aerodynamic

I bought this box to work on a Lexus LX and a Model 3 and it definitely gets the job done quietly. On the LX you can hear some wind noise but only if the moonroof shade is open. On my Model 3 you hardly hear it even when the glass roof even at 80mph which was a pleasant surprise. The only downside of this box is the front overhang which makes it bounce a little going down the road. I never felt like it was going to fly off but it does bounce a vertically. The overhang doesn’t affect your vision on a longer SUV but on a Model 3 it looks like you’re driving under a space shuttle. MPG hit wasn’t even noticeable on the LX570 and Model 3 was maybe 10% increase in power consumption which is far better than I was expecting.

Cracked after one two hour trip

We just bought this road trips and it already has a crack in the back corner. We only took one trip (one hour each way). We didn’t stuff it to the brim, just had a tent and sleeping bags up there. We’ve never slammed it or rough handled it. I can’t believe it’s cracked after we paid $900 for it.

Flex Alot

I purchased this for my Ford Expedition. First thing I noticed after installing it and test driving it is that it flexes ALOT when driving (empty and filled). I have 2 other Inno boxes and they do not flex as much as this Yakima. I HIGHLY recommend you see one in person and test the flex before you buy one. For sound, this box is also slightly louder than my Innos but that is only noticeable above 70mph. For MPG hit, I have only noticed a ~1mpg lost on my weekly 400 mile commute (200mi each way), from 19.Xmpg to 18.Xmpg. I usually drive around 70mph on the highway. I am still keeping this box because of its width; I am able to put my 700c wheelset in it.

Great box

Great box. The day I brought it home from REI Pittsburgh there was a driving rainstorm but it was completely dry inside. It is also extremely quiet. On the Subaru Outback Wilderness, I couldn’t tell if it was any louder than the Thule aero extended crossbars I have on the vehicle and it’s even quieter with the sunroof closed. On the minivan, I couldn’t hear the box at all. (No sunroof on the minivan.) Gas milage depends on how windy it is. When there is little or no wind, it lowers mpg about 1-2 mpg on the minivan, if it’s really windy, the loss doubles to 3 or 4 mpgs. With 2 people it takes minutes to install, and it isn’t difficult. The CBX holds quite a bit of luggage, and the extra space makes it easier to pack the car. And it looks good on the vehicles. My only regret is I didn’t get it earlier.

Box does not fit 2023 Subaru Outback

Update to my review expressing dissatisfaction with the Yakima box because it is not compatible with my 2023 Subaru Outback. After posting the review, Yakima contacted me and blamed me for inappropriately buying an incompatible box. I was dumbfounded. Before I bought the box from REI I checked the Yakima site to make sure it was compatible. I then further confirmed it with the salespeople at the Seattle REI. Both indicated that it would be compatible. I can't believe that Yakima would blame me rather than owning up to their engineering mistakes.

Not Compatible with Subaru Outback

Spent a $1000 on this box with the understanding that it was compatible with my 2023 Subaru Outback using the OEM crossbars. A year in and I can't be more disappointed. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get the mounts to stay tight on the cross-bars. I have to stop and re-tighten them every 100 miles or so of freeway driving to keep the box from flying off the car. Note, I do not have this problem on my 4Runner, so it seems like a compatibility problem with the Subaru. Considering the popularity of the Subaru, I'm very surprised that it does not work, and equally surprised that Yakima does not make it easier to verify compatibility prior to purchase. Another issue is the locks and latch mechanism. It freezes in the winter and is extremely difficult to operate. I'd stay away from this product.

Need to return after 24 hours... cracked by itself

I ordered online during Labor Day, picked up on 9/9, and cracked by itself in the next day. Two cracks went along with the material lines when they were casted, on upper cap, left rear edge, and 2 inches each.
