So far, so good...
This pad exceeded my expectations with regards to comfort. It's my first inflatable pad but I found it to be comfortable and durable so far. There are instructions inside the sack with directions on how to inflate/deflate. Inflating, no problem. Most of it was done by the pad, I only added about 8 breaths. Deflating, a much different experience. I have to sit and roll it little by little to push the air out and it is a little more work than expected but not a dealbreaker (but 4 stars instead of 5). I have heard that it should stay inflated to store it, which saves me some work, but will research more. Overall, a nice pad and would recommend.
Bed-worthy comfort on the trail!
I haven’t been able to use this pad a whole lot yet, but can already tell it’s going keep me comfortable on many adventures to come. It takes only a good breath or two to finish up the inflation, and it rolls back up really nicely as long as you’re patient with it. I purchased the regular length - I’m 5’7” - and it’s okay, but I probably would have appreciated a few extra inches. If you’re in between sizes like me, and don’t mind carrying a few extra ounces, I’d recommend purchasing the long pad. I’m quite slender and require decent cushioning to be comfortable on my bony hips (and crooked back), but I can confidently say this pad is worth every penny.
Really Feel the Warmth
1. Easy to set-up: Unroll, open the inflate valve, wait a couple minutes, give a couple puffs of air, close inflate valve - DONE! 2. Easy to put away: Open deflate valve, roll up towards valve, put on compression strap and put in bag. Both steps take less than 10 minutes each, and the comfort of the mat is GREAT. You can really feel the warmth coming through the mat, it's not fiery hot, but enough to take the cold bite out of the air. I have not used it outdoors, but will be using this on top of my camping cot with a 15 degree Kelty Discovery bag this spring for our Utah/Grand Canyon trip.
good for drive up camping
Bought this a while ago and it inflates and holds air well but I definitely have to blow into it to inflafe it all the way. As for a self deflating, it does not do that. It will let air go until a certain point and after that I have to crunch or suck out a ton of the rest of the air. Also it does not pack down small enough to be convenient when backpacking. I cant fit it into my pack and have to put it on the straps on the outside. I would much rather use those straps for a tent. This would be a good pad if you were to do a drive up site and not have to carry in a giant sleeping pad and tent
Does the job!
The item as a whole is great! Works for an easy weekend regular camping trip. I’m 5’4”, do wish I had gotten the longer version, but this does the job! Keeps a good cushion between my sleeping bag and the ground. The pad specifically was definitely used before me because it has some type of liquid stain on the bottom underside area. Since I don’t sleep on that side of the pad it really doesn’t matter. But it wasn’t great to see that it wasn’t properly inspected after its previous owner returned it.
Amazing pad except for longevity..
Hands down the most comfortable sleeping pad I have ever had the privilege to rest on. I love the color and look of it, it is easy to inflate, fits easily in its bag after deflating, super fast to pack and unpack. Most importantly, it is absolutely ridiculously comfortable. I have slept on some pretty uneven surfaces with this with no issues. My camp sleep is 300% better with this pad, no joke. However, this pad failed after just under two years, fewer than ten short and longer camping trips. It just doesn't hold air anymore. As these things go, failed me on the second night of a two-week camping trip. The positive is that it does have some foam in it, so there still is minimal padding even when deflated. I loved this pad so much and am disappointed that it doesn't seem to last very long. Would buy another but am concerned it might fail even faster.
Two different pads went flat w/ minimal use
Tried these out for about a year with my girlfriend Mine actually failed on the second day of use in a spotless tent interior and positively ideal ground conditions -- no rocks, no pointy twigs, no sneaky tree roots. Sent it back and used the refund towards a solid American-made thermarest (no regrets there). Quite comfy for that one night though, I like minimal padding INSIDE of an air pad. My girlfriend's pad saw about 2 uses and a year in proper storage, then joined mine in the failed pad graveyard a week ago: wouldn't hold air. My hunch is sub-par adhesive, but couldn't say for sure. I switched over to the Thermarest pro-lite, which I highly recommend. The trailbreak pad was attractive because of the superb cushioning and high R-value for winter adventures, but it failed the quality test for us.
Great sleep, despite the weather!
Really happy with this pad so far, it's insulation works great and kept me very warm throughout a few rainy nights camping in New Hampshire. Only note is that it is quite short (I have a petite sleeping bag) so I chose to have my head beyond the pad and on a pillow instead of getting my feet cold! Would recommend if you're < 5'3"!
Not a good option
I had bought this product because of the R value, price and the trust of the REI Brand. Unfortunately, this product failed twice (two separate models), within a year of normal use and good care. Both times it failed on a longer trip. Would not recommend this product to anyone, and hoping that the issue gets fixed.
Pretty pleased as a beginning backpacker
Light and inexpensive-as a new backpacker I did not want to spend an arm and a leg. I've only slept on this one night (it got down in the 40s) and it was comfortable and I stayed warm. I'm 5'4'' and 170 lbs. The mat is not super-wide so as aside sleeper I found it a little narrow. If you are taller than 5'4'' I would definitely recommend getting the long. The regular just barely works for me.
