I LOVE this chair. I cat think of anything I would want to change. Love the color. Love that it’s low to the ground so ppl who’s legs aren’t long wont have their feet dangling. With a typical chair that is higher, my feet don’t touch the ground, making my thighs tired after awhile. With this chair, I can stretch my legs out in front of me and the ground is a built-in foot rest. That feature probably makes it not such a great solution for very tall ppl. An extra is that it has backpack straps for hands-free carrying. Not only that, but there is a clip on the top so it stays folded, and doesn’t flop down while you’re walking. It doesn’t have a cup holder, but that is a plus. Cup holders are usually designed for a can of beer or soda. Well, i like carbonated water that comes in a liter bottle, and it doesn’t fit, so, for me, the cup holders just get in the way. Did I mention I LOVE the color! With it’s slim profile and small footprint, (but with a very solid construction) you can take this chair anywhere: camping, sporting events, fishing, sunset watching, marshmallow-roasting, or just chilling.
I love this chair. I've had it for 3 years and use it on my covered porch for most of the summer, and can easily take it on a park trip or on my bike in a pinch. Like other reviewers mention, this chair gets dirty easily and is hard to clean. The wood part, while beautiful, cracks and the coating fades over time. The worst part, and the reason I give this only 3 starts for such a beloved chair, is that the way its assembled, it's difficult to take apart to replace the cover and the wooden arm rests. My cover ripped, and unfortunately the "stop" in ripstop didn't mean anything as the tear strength was very low and just kept ripping! I wanted to be able to just patch the rip, but because of the way this is constructed, I could not remove the cover without cutting parts of the fabric as a number of the bolts are permanently attached. I was determined to keep this out of the landfill though, so I made a new pattern that got around that. If they had constructed this with more nuts and bolts, the chair could be easily taken apart and the cover replaced or patched, but I had to alter the pattern and find a work around. The yellow chair is the original, the tan one is my replacement. This took me about 5 hours to make the pattern and sew, which isn't feasible for most people. I wish REI would create something repairable, so we could use our things longer and keep them out of the landfill.
This comfortable, very well-constructed, stable low-profile lawn chair is especially ideal for ‘low to the ground’ activities such as interacting with pets and children or for when attending events with lawn seating, etc.. With the seat 10-inches off the ground, any ‘stuff’ you bring (food, drink, etc.) is within arms’ reach. Easy to transport – just use the backpack straps for hands free carry or the carry handle. It is my go-to chair for bird watching for the following reasons: comfortable fabric seat is a treat when sitting for long periods of time (and great to have back support), low-profile seating positions my hips and knees in greater flexion which allows me to use my knees as a tripod (to minimize camera shake) when doing photography, and I can easily access all my equipment on the ground next to me. Within a few seconds the chair is folded, on my back, and I am ready to move on to the next observation site. Additional notes: Seating depth is about 18 inches and width is 19 inches. With low seating, hips and knees are in greater flexion (more bent). This may present a challenge for individuals with hip or knee joint issues getting in/out of chairs with low seats.
I have tried my fair share of camp chairs. From the classic fabric ones with two cupholders to the zero-gravity recliners. For me, this chair ticks all the boxes. It is extremely lightweight and easy to carry. The backpack straps makes it incredibly more comfortable than the cross strap typically employed by camp chairs. You can even carry items in the chair since it is backpack style. When I sit in it, I don't feel like I am sinking. I feel supported and so so comfortable. My hips, IT band and knees are all happy. Most recently, I rode my bike to the park and brought this chair instead of a blanket. Total win! Easy to ride with as a backpack and while it does give you a larger profile that catches the wind, it wasn't a struggle at all. Small things - no cupholders, but that it's a huge deal as you can use the ground/table. I'm a small person and I could see this not working for larger people. I also wish it would recline for those beach naps. But I can lean back and get a good nap as is. Love this chair! Highly recommend!
Best Backpack Chairs Ever. We have tested them out in the last few weeks at a soccer match (everyone was asking where we got them, ‘REI of course’, outside in our yard we impressed the birds I’m sure, and this past weekend we effortlessly walked up and down the Washington coast using them any time we found a great place to sit and take in the view. If I haven’t mentioned it yet, Best Backpack Chairs Ever! Extremely light weight while carrying, breathable when sitting and relaxing, held up to sand/shells/saltwater you name it. I may never again leave home without one.
This is a great little camp chair! I initially purchased it for my sister (the West Elm collab chair) and she loved it so much that apparently several of her friends purchased the same one. I bought this one as a replacement chair for the West Elm one (it was a light yellow) that I lost at a park. While I don't think this one is as well made as the West Elm one, it's just as comfortable and I prefer the gray color. I've used it many times at the beach to read. The only thing I don't like about it is the sound it makes when I carry it on my back, it's very annoying and kind of loud but all things considering, not the end of the world.
I've only used this chair twice. But leave it outside on our patio. The fabric gets stained and always looks dirty (pic is from after wiping it down). Tried wiping fabric with soap and water but didn't help. Also the wood has splintered, de-colored, and cracked. I have two colors (yellow and pink) and both look like this. All this in San Francisco, a very mild and not wet climate.
Bought this right before stay-at-home orders went into effect so I haven't traveled with it yet, but it's been a great chair to enjoy time at home in the backyard and porch. The backpack straps are awesome and help free up my hands to carry other things in and out of the house at the same time. Folds up nicely so I can easily store inside a closet. And I love the cheerful yellow color! It's not the cushiest chair you've ever sat in, but it's plenty comfortable for me. I'm looking forward to the day I can take it to the beach, parks, and outdoor concerts.
I bought the low version for the post pandemic free outdoor concerts in Sonoma County. I was leery at 72 walking the half mile to the concert grounds after parking. I stuck a very light throw and small roll for lumbar support inside the chair before hoisting on my back and with my tiny picnic box and walking stick. The chair was light and performed flawlessly with amazing comfort and the hike was easy…I am so pleased and had a great time…now to find a tiny table in a bag and I am ready to go first class to any event…and I got it on sale too!
This is the best outdoor chair. It is extremely lightweight and easy to carry. I walked 1 mile in it throughout Chicago and wasn’t bothered at all. The fabric is versatile - great for lawn beach sidewalk wherever you are. This is high quality and worth every penny.
