Cannondale engineers thought of EVERYTHING

I second that other review: Right now this is the pinnacle of sleek ebike design. Nobody can detect it's an ebike. I have high level road bike users trying to keep up with me on the bike path. I go just fast enough so they could barely keep up LoL. Too many things on this bike Cannondale got right on this bike to list. Few are price, weight, noise level, looks, performance. If I was to nitpick they missed a second bottle holder location on the seat tube considering you can add a extended battery. I ride this a lot more than my Felt full carbon road bike. I also get a better workout with the Neo 2. Something about getting more reward for every pedal stroke motivates me to pedal harder.

Great E-bike

I really like this bike...my first e-bike. In two months I have ridden more than 1,000 miles and feel shorted if I am unable to ride that day. The bike is simply designed with understated style while it lets this septuagenerian ride with the the younger guys and feel confident that I can handle the steep grades.

Love this bike

I have had my Neo SL2 for just over a month and have ridden it 500 miles on the road and also on gravel. Living in Denver I can ride long paths that cross all types of terrain with frequent steep climbs and loose gravel. The help from the electric boost has made all the difference. I started riding last fall and, being in my seventies and not in the best shape, I found it very taxing to ride more than five or so miles before fatigue set in. Now I simply charge up and head out. I regularly ride 15 to 20 miles at a brisk pace of 15mph and love it more and more each day. Though not inexpensive, this bike is very full-featured and with the Cannondale and Ebikemotion apps on my iPhone which mounts on the bike stem, I have a constant readout of battery level and speed so I can monitor all the details of the ride. The only thing that I would like is a suspension that is a little more forgiving on rough roads but that is an option on other more expensive and heavier bikes. Maybe in my future but for now this bike is wonderful.

two thumbs up

This bike is all I need to keep me from sweating during trips to the store or miscellaneous errands. I live in a very hilly area (13% grade to the grocery store). I am an older rider (pushing 70) but still maintain about 80 to 100 miles a week on a road bike. This bike looks and feel like a normal bicycle due to the smaller battery and its great to ride in sneakers or flip flops. It is a Class 1 so the assist cuts out at 20 mph. This is plenty for my use. My wife has a class 3 that is like a rocket and has no problem getting to 40 mph. Three power levels, it weighs in at about 35# so I could still ride it with no power assist. The only downside is I cannot get the app to load into my iphone (maybe I'm too old!). I gave it 4 stars because of the app not working. Overall two thumbs up.

Great fitness and commuting bike

I bought this bike to stay in shape. I can go on much longer rides because it is an ebike. This bike rides just like a conventional bike which is great for getting some exercise. I will typically ride 15 miles without assistance and then turn on the motor to get an additional 15 miles in. I feel like I can get a much better workout with this bike than with a conventional bike because the motor gives me just enough assistance on the lowest setting to get a longer ride in once I am tired. Another thing that I love about this bike is that I can attach my daughters trailer bike to it and with a little assistance, I can pull the extra 55 pounds much easier. This allows me to ride 5 mph faster while towing my daughter (she loves it!). Ergonomically, the bike feels great and the components are of great quality. The bike shifts flawlessly and the brakes work very well. With the power assistance turned up, this bike is legitimate transportation. I wish I had this bike back in my college days when I would ride to campus. I chose this model because it is light and I wanted a hub drive motor. The hub drive motor does not have motor resistance when turned off like the mid drive motor ebikes. It also looks like a conventional bike which hopefully will draw less attention from thieves.

Range Extender Battery/Ebikemotion app

Adding the range extender battery increase range from 46 miles to 86 miles in lowest of 3 assist levels. It's well designed and integrates/charges main battery. The only hitch in the giddy up is that Cannondale (or Orbea) neglected to provide the necessary bottle cage holder to hold the battery. So found SKS adapters that work reasonably well safely securing the 3.6 lb battery. As far as I know, Cannondale is still laboring to provide the battery. Got it from another source. They're in short supply. The Ebikemotion app is incredible as it's possible to download 8 maps for $3.99/yr. So it's a great working gps with nice display features including wattage necessary based on pedaling & cadence as well as ongoing reporting on battery depletion/available range. The system also permits adjusting the three assist levels potentially extending the range further. Hats off to Ebikemotion.

I'd get shocks on my next bike, but this is a great bike with long mileage, liteweight, rides easily w/o battery. downside is that it has no shock absorbers. easy battery recharge. recommend but not cheap. its really nice on uphills or windy.

Excellent balance of conventional and electric.

I'm 55, 6'1" and 20 lbs heavier than I should be at 195. Getting back into biking for exercise, I wanted a mostly street bike with a discreet electric backup. The Neo SL 2 looks and rides like a regular bike, no drag from the electric assist and the ebikemotion is a proven motor setup. There is nothing you don't need on this bike but everything you do, the single button control is simple once you learn the colors and shows you which of the 3 levels of assist you have selected plus battery status. I ride mostly without assist but so nice to have for inclines or if for an easy ride home. The ability to add a supplemental battery disguised as a water bottle to increase range makes this bike unique and versatile. PROS - stealth ebike, you can ride anywhere, 1x9 drivetrain is simple and adequate, hydraulic brakes, 33lbs light, Cannondale build quality, battery can be removed through access panel at bottom of downtube, supplemental battery capable, Ebikemotion hub motor is proven, bluetooth pairs to your phone for detailed display. CONS - Ebike motion app is a little buggy, color of bike is more green/gray than white. BOTTOM LINE - I cant wait to get home and ride every day, I'm loving this bike for putting a huge grin on my face and helping me lose 8 lbs already. good service from REI bike shop too.

Great bike, couple hiccups

I echo the greatness of this bike that others have eloquently stated in their reviews. This bike excels on bike paths and well maintained roads. It can be a bit jolting on those roads that are not well maintained and the Carbon fork may help a bit, but your hands will soak up road vibration. The only occasion this bike doesn’t excel is when used as a commuter that requires you to share the road with a lot of traffic and minimal bike lanes. The bike can get you up to speed quickly and efficiently but once you hit 19 miles an hour, you lose the assist and if you’re traveling on flat roads or slight downgrade, you run out of gearing and just spin, thus not letting you keep speed or even increase speed on your own power. I suppose this should be expected as a class 1 bike and thus commuters should find a class 3 (28mph) bike. Occasionally I feel the bike bog down and struggle on tougher hills but that has always been an issue on rear hub motor bikes. My bike has a rubbing or grinding noise that I can identify. I don’t think it’s a concerning issue but I’ll have it checked out soon to be safe.
