Great lightweight commuter
I ride my bike to work every day and then have to schlep it up 2 flights of narrow stairs into my office because bikes get stolen in my city no matter what lock you use. This bike is nimble, quick, and lightweight making it easy for me to load it on my car or carry it up the stairs to my office. On weekends, I ride about 40 miles each day for pleasure, and this bike is great. I love it. My only complaint is that the way you engage the assist is a little cumbersome. I've gotten used to it, but it could be more user-friendly.
Nice execution of the urban e-bike concept
By using the Mahle ebikemotion system and making smart frame design and component choices, Cdale really done well with the Quick Neo SL1. 33 lbs is not much heavier than a similar non e-bike which makes it easy to handle, lock-up, load on a rack etc. The tires are wide but not excessively so making it possible to dial in a smooth ride, and it doesn't look like an e-bike unless you know what to look for. Integrated front and rear lights plus a nice sp connect phone mount complete a well though out overall package. Very impressed!
Exceeded expectations!
We purchased two of the Cannondale Mahle powered ebikes...a Quick NeoSL 1 and a Treadwell Neo Remixte. Slight differences in frame configuration and equipment but comments are relevant to both. We have been cycling for 40+ years but decided to acknowledge the amount of birthdays and seek something that would allow us to continue cycling with some ease. We also wanted lightweight bikes to fit on our motorhome rack and bikes that could still be ridden without motor assist. Yesterday we took them out for a ride. The bad news is my bike had some software error and the motor would not work. Not wanting to waste the beautiful day, we set out on a rail trail. Very happy to report that my bike rode easily without the motor...gearing was great and no perceptible drag. Easily maintained speed comparable to my road bikes. My wife used the lowest assist level and kept my pace-a new achievement. After a 12 mile run, she still had 76% battery capacity remaining. We are very very happy with these bikes and look forward to many rides. PS-Mine will be back in a few days after a software reset.
Love this bike on long Rail Trail Rides
I bought this bike for my wife and she really loves it. She primarily uses it on Rail Trail rides in Florida where it is mostly flat. There are a couple of Rail Trails we visit on occasion that do have hills and bridges you need to peddle up and over, but that is not very often. My wife’s other bicycle is a Specialized Road bike, so this is her first e-bike. As far as the quality goes, this seems to be a very good quality bicycle and I have no regrets about buying this. Now on to some specifics about the bike and the purchase experience. The battery life is better than we expected. Here are some examples based on our Rail Trail rides and our battery usage so far. The bike has 4 different settings for power assist, White, power is on, but no assist, Green, you have light assistance, Orange, you have medium assistance and then Red which is like Turbo mode assistance. The more assistance you use, the quicker you will go through the battery. On one Rail Trail ride where the Trail was mostly flat, we wanted to see how far she could go on a full charge, my wife kept the power assist level at Green the entire ride and we kept the pace between 14-15 MPH, we went just over 64 miles and still had 8% battery left, so she probably could have gone around 70 miles at that pace and assist level. On another ride she kept the bike in Orange assist the whole time and we kept the pace at 17-18 MPH for the first 45 miles and then the battery started getting down to 10%. She then switched back to Green Assist and finished the ride of 54 miles. Hopefully that will give you an idea of what range you can expect. Of course, other things will affect the battery range, like how much the rider weighs and flat vs hilly terrain, so keep that in mind. Another thing we have learned is once you get below 10% battery, only the Green Assist mode really seems to works, there is just not enough battery power left it seems to power the Orange or Red assist modes at that level. Unless you use the phone app (which is nice) and mount your phone on the handlebars, the only information you see regarding the ebike status is the light on the crossbar. My wife has a Garmin cycling computer, so we only use the phone app when we stop to take a break and check the actual % of battery life left. The light indicator on the top tube will stay in battery life indication mode as you are riding it, in order to see or change the assist level you are in, you need to press the indicator button. If you are just peddling along and look at the light, what you are seeing is how much battery life you have left. The light will be White when you are between fully charged to above 75%, once it falls below 75% then the light changes to Green, when you fall below 50% it changes to Orange, when you fall below 25% it changes to Red, when it falls below 20% battery left the Red light will flash slowly, when you fall below 10% the Red light will flash quickly. Once the battery is dead or almost dead it takes roughly 3 hours to fully recharge, and do not leave the charger plugged in over 5 hours, disconnect the charger before you hit 5 hours or you could overcharge the battery and cause a problem (at least that’s what the manual says) Also, when you charge the bike, plug the charger into the wall outlet first, then into the bike second and then disconnect from the bike first then the wall outlet second. You can ride this bike without any power left in the battery, it is heavier than a regular road bike, so it is not going to be like riding a non e-bike. My wife wanted to see what it would be like if she ever had the battery die on her, so on one Rail Trail Ride she did the length of trail, 14.5 miles with the power turned off and went at around a 12 MPH pace and said the bike rode fine, it just felt heavier than when she was use to with her Specialized Road bike. Another thing you can do is customize the power assist delivery via the phone app. My wife said the bike took off too quick in Orange and Red assist, so we went into the app settings and changed the power delivery. We left Green at 100% but changed both Orange and Red to 70%, this still gave Orange and Red a lot more assist than Green, but made the power delivery more controllable and also gives a little more battery life when using the Orange and Red assist modes. My wife is use to a road bicycle with drop bars, she really likes this bikes setup and the flat bars and ergo grips, she said even on the long rides it is very comfortable and has no complaints of pain in her hands, wrists, arms, neck. She feels like it is a very comfortable bike to ride. She is 5 ft tall and got this bike in size small and it fits her great. I ordered the bike off the REI Website and had it shipped to our local REI store in Jacksonville. When the bike arrived, the Store contacted us and setup a time to take delivery and get a bike fit. The Tech in the bike shop did a great job with the bike fit and made sure it was setup properly for my wife. Then they explained the bike and its e-bike features to us before we left the store. The order, delivery, and bike fit process went great. My wife only has (had) one complaint on this bike and that was with the stock gearing. If you live in an area where you have a lot of hills or mountains, then you will probably like the stock gearing, but here in Flat Florida riding on Rail Trails, it was just too wide of a gear ratio for her. What I ended up doing was ordering a Shimano 105 5700 10 Speed Rear Cassette in size 11-28 and replaced the stock rear cassette with this one. I had to take a few links out of the chain and make an adjustment to the rear derailleur, and it works just fine. Now when she is shifting, it is only a 1 or 2 tooth change between cogs. If I didn’t know how to do this, I am sure I could have taken the bike back to REI and paid them to make this change. If you do this yourself, you need to use the locking ring that comes with the stock rear cassette to tighten down the new cassette. That stock locking ring has magnets on it and that is what controls the power delivery via the sensors on the e-bike. If you do not put that back on, your e-bike motor is not going to supply any power on your rides. A lot of different Bicycle companies use the MAHLE Ebikemotion X35 system on their e-bikes aside from Cannondale, there is plenty of information on them that you can find via a quick Google or YouTube search. We are both very happy with this bike and getting it from REI.
Lite e-bike
Pros: lite bike, solid feel, drive train feels smooth Cons: it is too stiff. When you go over even an inch of elevation, it hurts. They probably didn’t put suspension cuz of weight. Motor: the motor does not adjust to how hard you want to pedal like other ebikes. As soon as you pedal, it just goes one speed so you can’t really slow down if you want to.
Good solid bike
I had the bike for a few months. It is easy to handle, runs smoothly and I love the fact that it is light. I'm happy about the battery duration. I'm 5'3'' and have a small-sized bike. The handles and the peddles are adjusted well, yet my feet do not touch the ground. The bike is too big. The app that comes with it drains the cell phone battery, so I opted for my Samsung Health app instead. I'm sadden by the fact that my car-support has badly scratch the top green bar. All in all, I do recommend this Canondale e-bike.
Yes great on trails is rite I
