These pants are awesome. Great baggier fit for people with larger muscular legs. I’m 6’2 or 188cm and I got a L regular. Slightly long but nothing a belt can’t help. I took them on a mountaineering adventure snowshoeing through knee to waist deep snow without getting even a drop wet. Incredible breathability, stretch, and comfort. I love the color too! They even ripped because I snagged them with a crampon and still didn’t let any water through!
Bomb proof pants for ski touring, mountaineering, or ice climbing. I have a lot of mileage in them so far and they feel great. The fabric is very flexible and comfortable for long days in the backcountry. The pants block out wind well and have yet to soak through. I usually only wear a pair of long underwear underneath for cold days in the alpine. The features make them great for wearing under a harness or fitting them over mountaineering/ ski boots. The Cirque II's may be my favorite soft-shell pant to date and I highly recommend these pants to my friends.
I am a 5'11,150lb woman and I bought the mens pants because Outdoor Research does not offer inseam options, none of their pants are long enough for me. These pants have adjustable waist so I felt I would be able to get a tighter fit from that and a longer length from them being mens. They are definitely longer than the women's would have been but still so short! It's so hard to find any good outdoor clothes as a tall person and I know the men must struggle with this too. OR -- please add an inseam option so people can choose the right length for them! I'm still on the fence with whether or not I'll return them because they seem like nice quality pants but it's just so annoying having to basically wear them as capris with the ankle cinched to stop wind and snow from going up my legs.
Another bombproof product from OR! The pant is very flexible with tons of stretch so climbing and skinning is a breeze. The pants breathe well, but wick enough moisture and stop enough wind to keep your legs warm. I only wear a thin pair of long underwear underneath for ice climbing in the alpine of RMNP. They are packed with useful features, my favorites being the reinforced cuffs for crampons and the adjustable hip belt. Only thing I wish they had is another leg pocket. I highly recommend!
As others have said, the only drawback is how long they are. I wear size 32x30 pants and these are a solid 5" longer. I'm 5'9" for reference. So if you're around 6'2" with a 32 waist, these should be perfect for you. Any shorter and they will bunch up below the knee. I really wish we had an inseam option, I'd be willing to pay extra for it Aside from that, these pants are perfect for winter hiking. I went snowshoeing up a mountain in Maine, the temperature when I began was below zero. All I had on was lightweight synthetic long johns and I was fine while moving. Not even remotely cold.
There is no doubt I have used these pant in a manner that tests them to the fullest. Multiple days of mountain adventuring and ice climbing have resulted in the all to quick demise of these pants. My issue is I have only had these pants for three months the thread on the gusseted knees and inseam are failing. Many of the stitching treads in those two areas are 50% worn and some have failed all together leaving a broken thread tail that will continue to unravel with each wash. It would seem they just went cheep on the thread material. If you want a pair of light mountain pant I would look else where, despite the cirque pants being a staple for so many years. Another bomber piece of gear lost to budget cuts.
I'm 5'9" with a 30 inch waist and 140 lbs. Went with a size small and I find these pants a little baggy and long for climbing and perfect for ski touring. Even though I prefer a trimmer fit, I can layer up better for those bitter colder days and not worry so much about freedom of movement. Every other aspect of these pants are excellent. Loving the pockets (beacon), zippers, scuff guards, material, and velcro waist adjustment. For an all around cold weather pant I would definitely recommend these.
They are nice and comfortable. I like the belt loops. That may seem ordinary, but you’ll be surprised how many mountaineering pans I have without belt loops. I would like for the bottom end of the leg to be less wide. I can feel the extra material once I put on gatters. The reinforce material to prevent crampon snagging is a nice detail. There is nothing fancy about the design, but it is functionable and comfortable. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because it feels like it is a job in progress. There are few things I wish they were added but that maybe more of a personal preference. But honestly it does what it was designed to do.
I had the older version for years. I wear these for skiing under a shell most days. In the spring or when touring I just wear these with no base layer. When I'm done skinning up I put my shell over the top and ski down. I just got back from Lake Louise a couple days ago where I had the opportunity to try the new version and loved them as much if not more than the older version. I like the addition of a beacon leash in the front pocket. One final note; I had the older version for about five years and the zipper at the cuff broke. I sent them in to OR and they sent me an online voucher for more than the price of the new version. Much appreciated!
Got these to start mountaineering. Definitely good designs and well-thought out for such activies. Comfy over long hours, fits well and good enough to stop wind and allow breathability.
