Great if you never get it wet
I was very happy with this light out of the box; bright, small, plenty of mode options, etc. But then I got caught in the rain once (not even a lot of rain, just passing spring showers), and it went downhill. At the end of my ride there was moisture on the inside, and it didn't really charge. After soaking it in rice, it still works, but I have to frequently adjust the cable to get it to charge, and I don't think it reliably charges fully or holds a charge. The problem has only gotten worse. So... great light if you ride occasionally and only in dry conditions. If you do any sort of riding where it might get wet, you're better off with a different light.
Bad Mounting Design, Do Not Recommend
The light itself worked great, but the mounting design and very very poor. Nine days after installing this on my commuter it had fallen off somewhere along my route. The clip dismount system is very tiny, less than a mm of grasp.
As described, so far so good.
Been using it for a couple of months now on 5+ hours road bike rides and light is still flashing when i am done. Easy mount, and bright enough to be seen. So far so good.
Be Seen!
Bontrager Flare R rear bicycle flasher is an excellent safety device. Very powerful, bright flash with multiple settings. Easy mounting. Easy to charge. Highly recommended.
Great solid light with Bluetooth integration
Great light. LED indicates when it’s time for a re-charge, it’s compatible with their Bluetooth remote (never have to wonder if you turned it on, or fiddle with it while riding), and it’s tough. I’ve ridden with mine on e-bikes, gravel and road through rain, mud and grit without issues. I’ve had other light (Niterider) systems mounting fail but not any of my Bontrager lights. (Currently have Bontrager and cygolite on our bikes, so I’ve tried a few.)
Great bright back light
I have owned this light for 2 years and it's been a great performer. It has a nice warning light that tells you when it needs to be charged. Durable and bright.
Great Light, Poor Strap/clip... Easy fix, though.
I purchased this light because I wanted a bright rear light that wouldn't be missed by cars. The light itself is super bright, and has more than enough modes and good battery life. After using it for the first time (15 mile ride, mix of road and gravel), when I got home I saw that the light popped off somewhere along the way and the the silicone strap was all that's left. I contacted Trek (who owns Bontrager) and they immediately shipped me a replacement at no cost (shout out to Trek, thank you!) and said "next time just make sure the light is clicked in place onto the strap attachment before riding", so I assumed it was my bad and that I didn't secure it correctly, didn't push it far enough until it clicks, etc. Once the replacement arrived, I looked at it more closely and saw the problem - the clip on the light is simply not secure. Even when clicked in place properly, it is fairly easy to pull out without pushing the "release" tab. The shaky nature of riding gravel simply shakes this light out of the attachment. The solution was simple - I put some electrical tape around where the light connects to the strap, basically closing-off the slider and release tab. With that, the light is held in place very securely and isn't going anywhere, the USB port Is still accessible, and the on/off button isn't covered; just means that I need to remove not only the light but the entire assembly (with the silicone strap) when I want to charge it, but no big deal.
Faulty Bontrager Flare R ion 100R
After using the light a handful of times, the light turned on and would not turn off.
Helps the cars see you
These work real well for letting cars know you’re there. We have them on multiple bikes in two different states. Battery life is good for long day rides. Variable flash pattern and intensity is good for low light or broad daylight.
Very pleased
I was apprehensive at first about the magnetic mount to the helmet. However, after a few rides I have full confidence in the light staying attached. The light itself is excellent and very visible.
