The Etherlight Insulated is my new favorite pad. For cold weather camping I have used the Therma-A-Rest Xtherm for a few years because the warmth, weight, and size are top notch, but the noise and valve system are not the best. When I read Section Hiker’s review of the Etherlight I went straight out and bought one. It is more comfortable, much quieter (I toss and turn a lot), and Sea to Summit has the best valve system. I do give up 2-3 ounces and some insulating value but I’ve used it in low 20s cowboy camping and I slept fine. Therma-A-Rest has finally redesigned their valve for 2019 and it is a nice improvement but I still prefer the Sea to Summit pump sack integration.
I was super excited about this pad when I ordered it due to how light weight it is. However after a couple of nights on the trail I have returned it. Every little movement I made the pad squeaked so loud that it kept me awake for three nights straight. I even put ear plugs in and it didn’t help. My buddies I hiked with thought I had brought rubber ballon animals for a sleeping pad. They didn’t sleep well either.
I bought this pad because it was very light, thick, and oversized. All that is true and it is comfortable, but this thing is SO noisy that I (and others in the AMC Hut) could not sleep. I was in pain but still didn't move because of the noise level of this thing. At breakfast that noisy pad was all the entire hut was talking about. I slept better the second night without a pad even though it was uncomfortable. If I was sleeping with no one around then this would be great. $189 and I'll probably only get the one use out of it.
After a couple of days it would not hold its air. Deflates after a couple hours.
I bought this sleeping pad especially for my trip to Isle Royale. Can’t say enough good about this pad. As a big guy(6-4 and 255#) and a side sleeper, the painful hip stinger is always lurking but not with this beauty. And the built in “air pump” is simply ingenious! I have used lots of other pads over the years, but none this good. I rate this pad a 12 out of 10!!
I have a bad back. Compression fractures on my LR 2 & 3, disc degenerate disease, and arthritis. It’s hard for me to sleep on my back while backpacking and keep it light. I have the thermarest neo air and love how light it is but my back would be sore in the morning. Finally got the Nemo foam pad because it was light and also comfortable if I camped somewhere with soft soil. But I’m currently hiking the AT and the soil on the south is pretty hard (not like Maine) so I got this. It’s super light (less eight that’s the Nemo pad) and it’s super comfortable. I sleep with a little less than half of the air out of it and it curves to my body. No more back pain on trail! Love it. It’s 4” thick and really wide too. It does take up some space in my tent but it’s worth it. If I had a one person tent it would be tight. Anyways definitely recommend. Also got rid of the blow up sack to save weight but it does work. But it doesn’t rake too many breathes to pump it up. Edit: I got the small because I’m 5’1” so the small is 5’5” in length which is perfect.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first mat left me on the ground 3 times after patching successive holes in the dimples. Was very unimpressed but contacted sea to summit and they replaced it. Have done 6 nites on the new mat without any problems. For sure a 3 season mat as fall here in Wyoming tested it's r-value. Very comfortable and less noisy compared to some higher r-value mats. Rate it a 3 which could improve if the replacement is more reliable.
This is an amazing buy! I did so much research and it is really hard to pick out a sleeping mat. Some have a great thickness but are super heavy, but this one had the best of both worlds. Both thick and lightweight! A bit pricey, but I'm a believer of “you get what you pay for" and this amazing brand had a great warranty. I'm planning on buying a sea to summit sleeping bag and duo tent to pair with my purchase.

I bought two of these matts a couple years ago and used them dozen of times but on a very humid night both of them started to deflate. Back home, I checked them and found tiny holes on the top in the seam of the dimple (both matts had holes exactly on the same area). I'm going to fix them but I'm afraid to face this issue again as it seems to be a manufacturing defect.
