Features

  • Double layer of Air Sprung Cellsâ„¢ supports you with dozens of tiny flexing points (not just a few large chambers), so you won't bottom out if you roll on your side
  • Each layer has its own valve; if you do end up with a puncture in one layer, the other layer remains fully functional
  • This also allows each layer to be pressurized independently; higher pressure on the base protects against uneven terrain, while a lower-pressure top makes for soft sleeping
  • Offset dot-welds in the 2 layers deliver uniform insulation and cushioning
  • This pad has an R-value of 2.5, which makes it best for adventures in cool weather; it provides moderate insulation from ground temperature
  • Most sleeping pads we sell range from 1.0 (good for warm weather) to 5.5+ (for use in extreme cold); the higher the R-value, the more insulated the pad
  • Airstream Pump is integrated into the base of the stuff sack for easy inflation
  • Multifunction valve allows quick inflation, deflation and fine-tuning of air pressure
  • Liquid TPU lamination process provides a stronger, more consistent bond than traditional roll-to-roll film lamination, virtually eliminating delamination issues
  • Antimicrobial treatment is added to the TPU to prevent mold issues caused by warm, moist air trapped inside the mat
  • 40-denier ripstop nylon face fabric offers the right balance between weight and durability
  • Includes repair kit with 6 self-adhesive patches for fixing punctures in the field, plus a spare silicone one-way valve insert
  • For extended storage, the mat should be laid flat, folded as few times as possible with valve open

There is noise

I found this pad to be very comfortable even when moving around and sleeping on my side. I tried it out on a 2 night camping trip with friends and kept it inflated the whole time and by the time I packed up camp only a small amount of air had seemed to escape, not enough to make the last night uncomfortable. Inflates easily without making you lose your breath and packs small, about the size of a 16oz. beer can. It comes with a repair kit which helps ease the fear of punctures. The one thing that was brought to my attention by my friends was that when I moved it made noise. I didnt notice it untill after but its something to consider if youre with others

I was lucky enough to grab one of these from rei at a garage sale for only 30 bucks. It is comfortable, but it is LOUD. Holy moly it is loud. I don't have much experience with backpacking sleeping pads to compare it to, but with every use I become more and more annoyed with the noise. And it's not even the insulated one... When it comes to size its wonderful, small enough to roll up tight and pack away but big enough for me to lay at a slight angle. I'm 5'2. One more thing that I do not like about this pad is how unless you are laying out completely flat and distributing your weight right, you will feel the ground. Fully inflated and if I am on my side and put my elbow up to rest my head I feel the ground. If I sit up straight, under my butt I feel the ground. I love the design of the single cells and the double layers to inflate but unfortunately it just did not work out for me. Of course I will be keeping it as a backup because hey it was only 30 bucks. I will mention I used the pump stuff sack sea to summit has that is sold separately and it only takes about 4 or 5 full bags of air to inflate each side.

Worth the $$!

I've had a thermarest for 15 years recently thought to upgrade to see if a different pad would actually allow me to sleep when I'm backpacking (I hate nights on the trail). I just used this for a 4 night trip and 3 of the nights were some of the best I've ever had, 1 was as terrible as ever. However, I am very happy with the purchase (even though it was expensive). The pad is a bit loud, but no more so than another brand my buddy was using, and it is a bit hard to roll up and get all the air out. BUT, 3 of the nights were actually restful and very nice. I'd totally recommend this product.

amazing comfort, a little crinkly

this is probably the most comfortable night's sleep i've ever had. LOVE the multiple cells/air pockets and 100% agree with the review below that mentions all the positive features of this sleeping pad. unfortunately, it is definitely heavy and the biggest downside: it's crinkly! it's the most comfortable air mattress i've ever slept on but unfortunately also one of the loudest...

Comfy, but cold

Great pad, super comfy. Does an awesome job of distributing your weight even if you're a side or a back sleeper. Dual chambers are nice in case one fails. Filled both up to the max since I was sleeping on a hard rocky surface. (I would highly consider getting the pump sack, made inflating a breeze) However, with temperatures dipping down to the 30s I found myself very cold at night. Using a 20 degree down quilt my underside was very cold and I could feel the cold air in the pad. Would only recommend for summer use. Ended up swapping for the comfort light insulated (green) which is still very comfortable. Little bit noisy too, especially when you're in your tent and it echos a tad. Probably because I was cold and tossing and turning.

Great pad to sleep on!

This is a great pad to sleep on! It has two chambers to fill with air so you can customize it by making the bottom chamber firm and the top chamber soft, if that is your preference. Also, if one pops, you can still sleep on the other. The way that the air is distributed throughout the pad makes it very comfortable to sleep on your back, side or stomach because the air chambers do a great job of adapting to the shape of your body without ever letting you make direct contact with the ground. The only downside to this pad is that it is very crinkly when you roll around at night. This has not been an issue for me, because I sleep through the night on this thing, but it has been an issue for the person sharing a tent with me. Just something for you to keep in mind and the only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five. Otherwise, if you can get past that, I strongly recommend that you give this pad a try.

Best mat I've Slept On

Bought this mat to replace my current 2.5" thick lightweight mattress. Took it out in my living room to see how quickly it would inflate and deflate. Took about 8 breaths for the bottom side to inflate, and about 3-4 breaths for the top side. This is a really nice feature as if one side deflates (gets punctured), the mattress is still functional. Which is really nice if you can't get it patched up properly (side note: the pad comes with a patch kit unlike some other brands). You can also adjust the top side for comfort by pushing the little inflating check valve. To deflate, simply pop the two valves open and it's ready to roll up. Just in the living room it seemed quite comfortable, but wasn't quite convinced it was a better product than my older mattress. The real test would be a couple of nights out in the Rockies. Bottom line was I slept like a rock and did not touch the ground once. The pad doesn't act like a water mattress in the fact that the 548 air cells keep it from doing the "sloshing" around feeling that others do. If you get close to the edge of the mattress it doesn't collapse like my old one does, it simply feels just like you're in the middle. Not as lightweight as other mattresses but I have overlooked this fact based on the two great nights I slept on the mattress. Hence the 5 stars. Rolling the mattress up is fairly simple and the stuff bag isn't super tight so you shouldn't struggle re-packing the pad if you take a bit of care rolling it back up. I can't speak to the thermal rating as both nights were probably 15C. I don't see it being any colder than my old mattress which had a 2.3R rating.

Loud and Deflates

Took the rectangular version of the comfort plus on a backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon. Even without laying on the pad it would deflate throughout the afternoon after setting up camp, and elbows and hips were always touching ground by morning even being inflated right before bed with both sides needing 4-6 breaths to be inflated again. As if that wasn't bad enough it's also super loud, especially when not fully inflated (which was nearly always). It was somewhat embarrassing having campmates mention how loud it was and made me a bit anxious about my restless sleeping style. This certainly isn't unique to Sea to Summit pads though - just read some of the reviews for the Therm-a-Rests - but combined with the deflating issue it was just not the pad for me. REI took care of me with returning it of course and I will be picking up something else.

Packs small stays comfy

Picked this up with my REI magma 30 quilt just before the covid shutdowns. I haven't been able to trail test it yet but from the backyard camping I've done and short hikes around the neighborhood it packs well and feels great. The two layers of inflation cells help fine tune thickness and could come in handy if one side gets a puncture.

Used for many years - not impressed

I bought this about 4 years ago and its been on every trip with me since. It's true that it is very loud, but more importantly, I found it very uncomfortable. I am a side sleeper I often have hip soreness from the pad when I sleep on it. Because of how narrow the foot end is, it is also difficult to keep underneath you if you toss and turn even a little bit. Also, its super heavy. I switched to the Neoair X Lite and couldn't be happier.
