Great serious backpacking shoe

I have been prepping for a thru-hike of the AT and have been through several backpacking shoes before these. These hit the magic mark. I love Salomon hiking shoes - they are lightweight and the lacing system is revolutionary - perfect tightness and perfect distribution of pressure every time. I had tried their trailrunners but found they did not have enough sole support and toe protection for rockier sections. I tried a fabric sided hiking shoe but got tired of wet feet (it rained a LOT last summer!). So, I tried these and love them. It is hard to tell any weight difference from the others and they kept my feet dry without smothering them. Yeah, they could be overtopped in a stream and take longer to dry than fabric based but there are ways to deal with deep streams and these are perfect for the other 95% of the trail. I saw a rant about fit on here. I have average width feet and wear sock liners and hiking socks. I did have to go up a half size as the sides are stiffer and thus did not flex with my toes. But that is what toe protection means. With the right size, these fit like gloves. The only drawback is that they are online only (and I think REI only). I think there would be less rants about fitment if folks could try them on first.

Disappointing. Having lived in my Salomon hiking boots and found them to be exceptionally comfortable, I thought these would be a safe online bet. Sadly, fitting is extremely different--fits a narrow foot. Shame the product description did not warn about narrow width--They will be returned

98.5 out of 100 - Almost Perfection!

I got these a little over a month ago and every day do a 2 mile dirt and road run. The fit and finish is outstanding!! Ruggedly built, and great style. The only reason why the less then perfect score is the excessive wear on the bottom of the shoes.

Fell apart in less than a year

I bought these as my third pair of shoes, having replaced the previous two under warranty and they fell apart in less than a year. AWFUL quality

A+ for globetrotting

i used 5 pair of them on the job as a groundskeeper just about every waking minute. Biking too. They provided more than ten months of reliable comfort and dry. The warranty kicked in for a premature blown out sole without any trouble. I'm buying 2 new pair of gray leather today

Didn't hold up

I got these as a replacement for the non-leather option, which became unusable in less than a year for a manufacturing defect. I was hoping these would be better, but the rubber on the toe came detached from the shoe about a year and a half after purchase (maybe 20-30 uses), so there was a big hole in the front toe. They're not usable anymore, as that part catches on every rock, stick, and root that I walk over, and they are no longer waterproof. Both shoe options (non-leather and leather) seemed good and comfortable up until they fell apart.

Good fit, seems like they will last

These shoes fit just like other models of Salomon trail running and hiking shoes that I’ve owned. I read a review that said they were narrow, but I felt no difference in fit between them, the non leather version, and XA Pro 3D Gtx. I’ve been wearing XA Pro 3D gtx as my main shoe for about a decade. They last about a year before I need to replace them. It seems like these leather ones will last longer and I hope that will be the case. I hope in the future they will come in more colors, but otherwise I have no complaints.

Second pair to fail!

This is my second pair of these shoes. Salomon replaced the first under warranty because the soles were peeling off both shoes. Now it's happening again with the replacement. They ARE comfortable, but my next pair of hiking shoes will be another brand.

enduring abuse

These shoes are light, comfortable, and have good grip. I'm a groundskeeper on a large private property and worked in heavy boots for decades. In the last couple of years, I have been trying different top brand hiking shoes and boots for work. These salomons are the first pair to last for more than a couple of weeks(seriously), they're up to 4 months now. Yes I'm extremely hard on footwear for work. They are still waterproof and the speed laces are intact. They endure on average 9 miles a day, 5-6 days a week so they're up to around 720 miles now with at least another 500-700 to go.Also constantly using(kicking) a shovel, planting and sprinkler repairs. Don't usually leave reviews but these are outstanding!!! THANK YOU SALOMON for making these. Please keep them in production and don't change a thing.

nice, but soles wear out too fast

These have been my go to shoes for years. Unfortunately the new batch is not made as well as the prior years. I used to get 6-9 months out of a pair. Now it is only 4 months
