firm, solid, good pair of shoes

I bought some 'zero rise' shoes that were great, comfortable, and spacious but I ended up with plantar faciitis. I bought these and though I would not call them 'spacious' or 'comfortable', when hiking up to 14 miles in them, they did not aggravate my PF. They seemed alittle slippy on wet smooth surfaces like tiles but when out in nature I felt very firm footed. When trying them on the firmness was a slight turn off but I could tell they did not aggravate the PF so I stuck with them. I also like that to tighten or loosen you just pull or push on the latch. You dont have to undo and redo them. I wish I had bought these first.

Comfortable, well-made hiking shoe

Great support, very comfortable shoe with excellent traction outdoors. Not quite as breathable as I'd like but still wearable all day long. Highly recommend.

Better colors?

Disappointed if this is the only color choice. Very busy for daily wear

Great light-weight breathable hiking shoe!

Awesome breathable shoe for day hiking and light backpacking. I was lucky to find this shoe as it appears Salomon has stopped making non-Gortex shoes. In summer my feet sweat a lot. For that reason I look for more breathable, NON-Goretex, shoes. Very comfortable. Excellent quality. Very supportive.

Great fit with exceptional traction - new favorite

These were my first Salomon hiking shoes and I am impressed. I was looking for a hiking shoe with a good fit that were breathable. They are super light and I love the lacing system (I was skeptical at first) that allows the shoe to fit perfectly around my foot. They have great traction for the trail and a protective toe box. I was suffering from plantar fasciitis before getting these, and they helped me recover from that. I am now a Salomon convert.

Design issue makes shoe uncomfortable

The shoes fit well and look nice but after some light use the sides start to crease cause the material to intrude upon the inner foot. It’s a pressure point that rubs up against your foot and makes the shoe unwearable. Not sure if it’s an overall design issue or just a defect for the pair I got. Probably does not exist for the Gore Tex version of the same shoe I have that are super comfortable after many, many miles.

Better than X Ultra 4 but speed lace system sucks

This version is a notable upgrade from the previous version. However for me the heel pocket is too loose and I can't get a snug fit without overly compressing the mid- and forefoot because of the speed lacing system. I really wish Solomon would replace this awful lacing system with traditional laces. Hiking shoes do NOT need speed in the lacing system (these are not triathlon shoes), but they DO need adjustability to dial in the fit. Plus if the laces break, you have to replace the shoes. I place a premium a snug heel and roomy toe box and its not possible to get that with these shoes because of the silly lacing system. The X Ultra 3 had an awesome heel pocket. Too bad its so sloppy now. Traditional laces would make this the best hiking shoe on the market. Not sure I'll keep them because of the loose heel and no way to cinch them down without creating a lot of discomfort in the arch and forefoot.

Best hiker at great price.

Great support and fit. First time experience with this lacing system that I now much prefer. Confirms on line reviews conclusions as top hiking shoe, which I also use as everyday shoe.

Comfortable and stylish

I've worn these shoes for some light hikes and pavement pounding on the commute and they have been excellent! Great performance, especially grip, in a variety of underfoot conditions. the lace system is clever and so easy to get used to once you've worn them once or twice.
