Thought out details set this apart from the rest

This pack does everything that it's supposed to do and then some. Thus far I have used this pack out at the lake, slugging up and down rocky trails, and in and out of boats and kayaks. On the beach and in the boat this pack keeps my drinks nice and cold even while sitting in direct sun light. The pack can hold more than enough beverages and snacks for about 4 adults or a family of 4 for an day/afternoon outing. I never realized the convenience of putting your cooler on your back until I started using this thing. What sets this apart from other pack coolers are the well thought out details. There are 3 additional pockets on this cooler; one up top with a water proof zipper, one on the side with a zipper, and one on the other side that can easily hold a can. The top pocket is great for throwing your keys, wallet, buff, sunscreen, phone, and even a light rain jacket. The side zipper pocket is perfect for a phone or wallet, and the third pocket can expand somewhat to hold a can or bottle. I personally use it to hold my waterproof speaker. The pack can also fit up to 2 8lb bags of ice for when you need to make an ice run. Wearing the pack is quite comfortable, there is ample padding on the backside of the pack and the straps are wide and comfortable even under a full load. The bottom is made of extra thick rubber and additional insulation to prevent heat from transferring to the contents and melting your ice quickly. There are 2 burly daisy chains on both sides to allow you to secure the pack to your kayak or SUP. Overall I would say that the little details on this cooler make it a great value and set it apart from other pack coolers. This will definitely be a staple for the rest of my summer adventures.

Horrible zipper and doesn't keep ice long enough
Chris G

I love my Hydro Flask insulated bottles and wanted to love this cooler but it has repeatedly let me down. I got my first one last summer and quickly found out the zipper is in no way waterproof as claimed. Every time it tips over or just tilts it leaks very badly (usually in friends' vehicles just after I bragged about the cooler). The zipper on the first one completely failed within a couple months, rendering it worthless as a cooler. I decided to give it another chance and hoped that I just got a lemon and fortunately REI replaced it. The second one also leaked badly from the zipper and now after a few months this one's zipper also completely failed and will no longer close. Additionally, I've found that it will not keep ice for 48 hours even in 50° weather. So disappointed that mutiple models of a cooler this expensive by such a good company would fare so poorly and fail so badly.

IN LOVE with my cooler backpack. Ice cold beverage

Wow! This thing is amazing. Opened it out of the box! Cleaned it up! Loaded it up with some ice blocks and 12 cans of beer! 3 bananas lots of strawberries some nuts and dog treats! Don’t forget the chips! It was incredible seeing how things got colder and colder as the adventure went on! I know you are supposed to cool it up overnight with a frozen 2 liter water bottle but i was so excited when it arrived especially because we were about to go on a hike along the river and it was just perfect!! My friends loved it too. The lava color is truly beautiful, like a rose. I ordered the tote in yellow and almost regretting it because of how beautiful this lava color is.

Seriously SO Good!

This cooler is seriously the perfect adventure cooler! We take it with us for a day of paddling on the water, on short hikes or when we hit the beach and it keeps food and drinks cold for hours. Ice lasts an entire day in the summer heat (we've yet to test the "48 hours claim") but when they say this baby is waterproof, they aren't lying! Bonus is that it looks pretty rad, we get so many questions and compliments on it!

High Quality Cooler

This cooler pack is pretty great. It is big enough to fit 12 beers and some snacks - and comfortably sit on your back for the short hike to your spot. It is made out of a thick, quality, water-proof rubber that is able to withstand some wear and tear. The straps are padded and wide, and make for a comfortable carrying experience. There are side pockets that can hold a drink, etc. The zipper that closes the top is thick plastic and seems very durable. Overall this is a great cooler that you would not regret buying - and all my friends tell me "wow! Awesome cooler!" any time I bring it anywhere.

Easy to Carry Cooler

This pack is far easier to carry and maneuver than a regular cooler. After using on several occasions I would say it's best designed for outdoor trips with little walking like when camping, picnicking, or attending sporting events. I can see this getting a lot of use at soccer games and family beach trips. It is not recommended for day hikes as this pack can become quite heavy after a few short miles when packed with food and drinks. It is however very water tight and large enough to hold a family picnic which is great. It is also heavily padded and thoroughly insulated to survive a hike through the Texas summer on my warm, sweaty back. Downsides: Mesh drink pocket isn't large enough for some containers and is situated too high on the side, the watertight zippers are hard to open even for a grown woman, the life & carry handle is useless as the pack gets off-centered. Overall, I like the pack design and insulation and I have plans to use it many more times, just not for hiking.

Cooler Cooler

Really pleased with the HydroFlask backpack cooler so far. This is the first "serious" backpack cooler I've owned, and it's a serious upgrade from everything I've tried before. Took it on a few day hikes and a big road trip and it was far more effective & more comfortable than other backpack coolers I've used in the past. Would love a little more storage outside the main compartment, but the zippered side pocket is plenty big for smartphone & keys and the lid was big enough for food items that needed to stay cold but dry & separate from the ice in the main compartment. Side pouch with netting was large enough for a full-size water bottle for easy access, and was used frequently. Shoulder straps are simple and appeared a little flimsy at first, but were surprisingly comfortable & stable throughout the hikes. Overall, very pleased and looking forward to getting much more use out of it this fall.

Great until zipper broke

Worked great until the zipper stopped working. The teeth would no longer catch and eventually the slide broke.

Zipper FAILED

Within 1 month of having this product the zipper failed. The "teeth" of the zipper will not lock into one another. We believe that due to the material used around the zipper that it stretches and is not taunt enough to keep the zipper together.
