I am a short woman with a smaller waist and larger thighs, so I have never been able to find outdoor pants that fit me well (too loose in the waist or too tight on my thighs and always too long). I also wanted reinforced knees for climbing and scrambling, which makes pants even more restricting and less likely to fit my body. These pants are great though! I don't have to wear a belt in order to keep them up but they also fit my thighs comfortably. They're great for hiking and climbing and I don't have to roll them up to prevent tripping or dirty hems. I wish I could get the petit size in more colors!
I wonder if anyone from REI reads these reviews. If so, please consider other colors for these pants in petite. Any other color. Black is an awful summer backpacking color. I was so excited with how these fit but haven't even taken the tags off because I can't bear the thought of hiking in black pants. That said, I spent about 2 hours at REI trying on every pair of pants and left with these, so that's saying something. I'm about 5'4" and 120 lbs with a tiny waist and thick thighs. I got these in a size 0 petite. I have such a hard time finding pants that don't gap at my waist but also leave me some room to move my legs. I'm still not sure if I'll keep them. The black is killing it for me.
I loved hiking Yosemite in these pants, and want to buy them in more colors (not just black). They're stretchy and I would wear them to yoga (if my yoga classes weren't hot). I think they would also be great for acroyoga! They didn't get wet/heavy, and I could roll them up when the temperature changed (mountain hiking is versatile with that). Their pockets are deep and can fit my phone and other useful things - like my hand to my wrist. Back pockets can also fit my phone. Petite length is great for 5'2. In conclusion, these pants are awesome. Did I mention the pockets?
I LOVE these pants!!!! Being over 55 years, actually over 65, even though I am petite and weigh 115 lbs, when waistlines sit below my waist muffin tops appear!! These sit just above my waist, are nicely fitted through the hips and the legs aren't too baggy. While I don't need to look sexy, I don't want to look frumpy ;)!!! Thank you, REI for adding this new style to your inventory!! I LOVE REI and the customer rep who helped me with this purchase on the phone as I didn't see them in the catalogue.
I am 5'3 138 lb. and have trouble finding pants to hiking in that do not drag the ground. I found these pants in size 8 petite and they fit perfectly! Room in the hips and still room for base layer. I backpacked in 34 degree weather with a base layer underneath and was just right. I also love that the pants are mid rise so that they are comfortable while wearing a backpack. I highly recommend you give these a try. They do seem to run true to size.
I've used these pants for rock climbing, day hikes, and multi-day backpacking trips throughout Washington. I'm super happy with these durable and flattering pants! They're black so they show dirt easily, but it's also easy to brush dirt off of them. They are quite puncture-resistant (for example, I was straddling a log when crossing a river and cut my leg, but the pants were fine!) My one beef is that they stretch out significantly. I originally bought them in my usual size 2P (I'm 5'1", 120 lbs, and have a 26" waist with a booty). However, I exchanged them for a size 0P after a 4-day backpacking trip (I wore them every day). After recently wearing the size 0 pants every day for 9 days in the backcountry, they have also stretched out (but are still smaller). So if you're really petite, you might find that the smallest size is still too large for you. I wish REI offered these in a 00 for ladies who are smaller than myself. I also wish that REI offered the petite version of these pants in colors other than black - I would love to buy another pair!
I am short and have a small waist and wide hips so rarely do pants fit perfectly. These pants are the perfect length and fit. And so comfortable. A rare find. I wish they offered this petite size in more colors.
I had previously bought these pants in a regular and loved them but they were a little long and I had to fold them (5’3). So I decided to buy my next pair in a petit and the length was just right, although they were slightly tighter (then again I gained some weight). For size I got a 10. My measurements are 170 lbs 44 hip 34 waist. I work long days in the field and these really hold up (from the swamps of New Jersey to the Texas desert)!
I am a curvy 5'2 with short legs at 200 pounds and finding flattering pants is always a chore! I was happily surprised to find these pants fit nicely . The draw string at the waist is an added plus as I continue to lose weight I can still adjust the waist to wear them for a couple sizes lower! I gave this a 4 as I can't believe shorter people aren't getting the options of other colors...
I wore these in Colorado in June 2018 and hiked 32 miles in them. So comfortable and fit true to size. I’m only 5 feet tall and they were only a little bit long.
