New Wahoo Kickr

This is a great addition to anyone looking to improve their cycling performance indoors. I purchased this from the flagship store in Bloomington and was a little concerned at first because I wanted the most recent version/model 2017. After getting it home and unpacking it was the latest model from Wahoo.

Great Trainer!

I have been using this trainer (paired with Zwift) a few times a week for the past 6 months and think it is great. The resistance feel is great compared to my past trainer and I would not say it is whisper quiet but with my headphones on it is no issue.

Defective product with really bad customer service

I would not recommend this trainer. I was sold a defective product and reached out to Wahoo for a solution. They provided a solution that took a significant amount of time and extra tools ($$). Ultimately, this solution did not work. Very unhelpful customer service.

QUIET!

If you want an interactive trainer that is quiet then the Tacx Neo is the way to go. Unbelievable riding experience with accurate power. You will never look at riding indoors as boring again!

Biking Indoors!

Before purchasing my Kickr, I spent a lot of time comparing similar products. The positive of the Kickr is the price point (not a joke) and the fact it comes with a cassette. Setting up the Kickr takes about 2 minutes, installing your bike takes as long as it takes for you to install a rear wheel. Download an app and you are good to go. Functionally it has been wonderful. It is night and day to have a "smart" trainer vs a standard resistance trainer. It makes the workout much more engaging, and keeps those long indoor rides from boring you to tears. I docked one star because I had to adjust the belt tension on the product. This required me to contact Wahoo. I wish it had come calibrated out of the factory. Noise level does not bother me with this trainer. It does make noise, but the noise it makes does not bother me. Whether it is the decibel level or just the tone, I am not sure. I am working to convince my friends to get one of these so we can ride together indoors!

Returned mine

I'm sure it's the right tool for the right person but I was frustrated at how hard it was to connect with other devices. If you're going wahoo, be prepared to buy all the wahoo things. My HR from my Garmin watch wouldn't cross over and the cadence from the kickr wouldn't talk to Garmin. Neither would TrainerRoad get the Garmin data. Unless you have an iPhone or the right computer, you can't play on Zwift. I'm a masher more than a spinner and the algorithms, in my experience, assume you can ride with a higher cadence than I'm currently comfortable with. I tried TrainerRoad workouts to take advantage of the variable resistance but was frustrated that I couldn't get a smooth feel, probably because it expected me to pedal faster. The resistance kept going flat and then re-engaging to compensate. Not fun or productive. In a few years, if I upgrade my computer and train for faster cadence, it might be the right tool. For now, I'm returning it and just getting a $50 Garmin cadence sensor for my dumb trainer.

don't waste your money

Clicking, grinding, buzzing and vibration makes this very expensive unit a drag to train on EVERY time. Customer service had no answers beyond buying a different cassette "that might fix it", it didn't. Wish I had gone with the other brand...

Terrible out-of-box experience

Boy, does Wahoo make life tough on a new buyer. I'm based in CA. I used a KurtKinetic for 15 years, heavily, and it was bulletproof and awesome. I loved it. A great example of a product that just worked right out of the box, and was a beast. It finally gave out after thousands of miles of use. I should build a little shrine for it. Anyway, I opted to go with a next-generation trainer because after reading lots of reviews, it was pretty clear that KurtKinetic has the hardware design right, but they're not up to date in software, and I wanted a direct drive for better data accuracy. So after reading lots of reviews on multiple different products, I went with the Kickr. (Crazy expensive, but I'm fortunate enough, and old enough, that I'm not all that price sensitive.) Ugh -- what a lousy experience this has been. I received my Kickr about two weeks ago and it's still not operational. I have a 9-speed Dura-Ace cassette. All instructions say - take apart the cassette, add the provided spacer, and you're good to go. OK, seems a bit lame that you have to start taking apart a $1,200 trainer to make it actually work, but stay Zen. Go to bike shop, get chain whip and lock ring. Go home, take apart the cassette. Add the spacer. Put it back together. Doesn't fit properly. Nuts. Call Wahoo support. Sorry -- 2 minute wait, but they actually aren't answering the phone. Try to call the next day, but oh, sorry, you're in CA and they don't answer the phone after 4pm PT, and only on weekdays. Both are pretty lame. (I chose not to lug my 50-pound Kickr with my tools to work so I could make the call then). I then am on a work trip for a week. I come back, and carve out time *in the middle of the work day* in CA, and I'm psyched to get this fixed. I call into Wahoo Support. One try, no luck. Second try, no luck. Third try, I reach someone. He ultimately says, "Oh, yeah, my mechanic says you need another 0.5mm spacer." Did that come with the package? Of course not. "Just go to your local bike shop and ask them for one. They might give it to you for free." I'm off to my bike shop (again) to see if, after multiple days, multiple new equipment purchases, multiple calls to Wahoo support, and multiple spacers, I can actually get this stubborn thing to work. Boy, have they got some work to do. I'm one more trip away from packing up this mistake and sending it back. <sigh>
