For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

I love these boots! I love the fact that, for me, they work in an extremely wide range of scenarios! I have worn them during snowy and rainy days in Boston, and I have worn them in 80-90 F weather in Costa Rica. I have worn them while crossing creeks and hiking in the redwoods in California, and when walking on very slippery/muddy/wet trails in the cloud forest in Costa Rica. My feet have always stayed dry in them. Their grip is great! When other individuals on the trail had a hard time and needed poles to keep their balance due, but the shoes helped me have such a firm grip that all I needed was my shoes. I use them for hiking, traveling with a light backpack, and walking around town. For me, they feel sturdy enough and comfortable enough to take on backpacking trips where the pack isn't too heavy (a few days with a regular pack weight or light-weight longer term backpacking trips) -- although, I have not had the chance to actually go on a backpacking trip with them yet so I cannot directly comment on it. My feet are very sensitive and get blisters very very easily, so I took a couple weeks to break them in walking around town for before wearing them for about 45 miles in Costa Rica - they were perfect and I didn't get any blisters at all in Costa Rica! (My feet were a bit sore on the bottom of my heel afterwards -- maybe some people would want to purchase their own insole to help if that's a problem for them -- , but other than that, they were perfect!) I have tried about 7 different hiking boots and all of them gave me blisters, so I was really excited that this pair worked for me, and I have stocked up on them since they are being discontinued. I have narrow feet, so as usual, La Sportiva works well with my feet, since they are a company that usually works well with narrow feet! (My mountaineering boots are also from La Sportiva, as well as my climbing shoes.)
I tried these boots out for the first time last weekend. Wore them in the snow, steep hiking, and casually - they performed well across the board. Lightweight, perfect ankle support, gortex, and made with a high percentage of recycled materials I couldn't be happier.
Took these on a 6 mile hike and they felt great straight out of the box. Boots are super comfortable and lightweight. Very happy with the ankle support and perfect grip even in wet conditions! In love!
I just returned from 2 weeks in Peru and I wore these boots everyday. . They felt amazing the entire time. No problems, pain, blisters or soreness on a 4 day hike to Machu Picchu and more. Waterproof! I highly recommended!
I was excited until I opened the package and took out these lovely boots from the box. I found a staple on the bottom. After I removed the staple, there’re two visible timh holes. I tried them on. They’re lightweighted and perfectly fit my narrow feet. If I hadn’t read the review before placed the order, I would have ordered my regular size instead of half size up. Half size is not a big deal though. I am going to a place rains always every day for 3 weeks. i hope these holes would not affect the waterproof function.
I am absolutely 100% satisfied with my La Sportiva FC 4.1 GTX hiking boots!! They were extremely comfortable from the very first hiking trip with them. No break in time required with these boots. I have been using them for day hikes with a day pack on my back. They performed well on all types of terrain. The grip on trails with rocks, tree roots, and wet or dry conditions going uphill or downhill was fantastic!! I purchased one size larger than my shoe size and wear them with wool or wool mix socks. No sore feet experienced!! Love my boots and love hiking in them!!
Just back from three weeks hiking out west in the National Parks and my feet felt great! The boots were firm on rocks but flexed when necessary. They were waterproof, and did not pinch my ankles. There was room in the toe box with a light or medium weight sock. I have various foot issues that the sales clerk was aware of and she found the right boot for me. I did have to double knot the laces but that seems true with all boots now.
Show was of an Excellent quality and the Right price. I wore them daily for 7 days, hiked, walked more than 20 miles, used as a daily shoes; for the job, shopping, etc. They feel great. They light-weighted and has perfect height. To be honest this was my first time wearing Boots!! Well, I am happy that I bought. shoes are exceptionally very comfortable to were and made of Best waterproof material. We will tell you more once we comeback after Trekking at 17000 feet near Himalaya region... REI Policy: With added assurance of "try for few days and if does not feel right just return..policy" made our purchase very easy and with confidence. Kudos to the REI team and Staff. They are indeed knowledgeable and also were hikers. I forgot the name of one Staff member whom we talk about our Mt. Kailash trip, well his guidance and friendly advise touched us very much, Thanks to him. Smita
Needed some new boots and went armed with a list of top rated boots. I’ve had three foot surgeries and the top rated boots all had something just not right. I started branching out and tried on this boot and love it! The fit is comfortable, light and supportive. Went a a seven mile hike to break them in and they were great! It was muddy and they kept my feet dry and no slipping in mud or on rocks. I definitely recommend these boots!
Didn’t take much to break in. Extremely comfortable. Hiked Raven Cliff Falls, Ga and slipped on some rocks in the water. Got socks and feet wet but the boots dried out fast in the sun. Hiked a bit while wet inside but the boots actually warmed up instead of getting cold. Not too heavy. Great ankle support!
