Great water reservior
Bought this for our 7 day and 6 night Grand Canyon backpacking trip to carry/store an extra 4-liters of water in addition to my water bottle. When full it easily fit into the front pouch of my pack and I didn't even have to remove it to fill my bottle on the trail. The loop made it easy to hang from various places when we set up camp. Very sturdy material and slim design. Tasted a bit plasticky but not so much that it would deter me from purchasing again or recommending. It was easy to refill with purified water through the large opening and use the smaller nozzles for various needs. Definitely one of my crucial pieces of gear on this trip and happy I purchased!
Oh no! What happened???
I purchased several of these a few years ago when they were lined with food grade silicone and they quickly became my absolute go-to favorite piece of gear. But I recently bought another to add to the collection and to my horror they are lined with polyurethane!!!!???? The taste is horrific, and I can only imagine what these chemicals leaching into the water will do to a person. They claim it's food grade, well I'm sorry MSR, that's not good enough. You had a perfect product, why on earth would you change it? I feel totally blindsided and betrayed by one of my most trusted and favorite outdoor gear manufacturers. Not happy, not at all.
Indispensable for group backpacking
I have two of the 6L DromLite bags and they fantastic for group backpacking trips. We fill both of them when we get to camp and we're set for water for a while. They don't weight much and take very little space when empty and rolled up. The eyelet makes them easy to hang up. I put a small loop of cord in the eyelet so they're easy to hang on a tree branch or clip to something with a carabiner. I recommend getting the spigot cap to go with them to make them a little easier to dispense water from.
Leaks!
So glad I tested mine before embarking on a "must carry all your water" hike in Big Bend. It had a pinhole leak where the spigot collar is fused to the bag. Thanks to the earlier poster who tested hers, found a leak--it never would have occurred to me to check. Bought a 4L Drombag Lite last year that is still fine, and the new 6L I bought at the same time as this one is sound. Anecdotally (now two reports via REI) MSR has a QA problem. Buyer beware.
Tough and don't leak
I have several of these of all three sizes which I use for kayak-packing water into the Everglades. They're easy to use, don't leak; and don't impart flavor to the water. They're very tough, though I think a raccoon could bite through the fabric, so they stay in the secured hatch. Though they don't afford that kind of protection, I have not had a problem with leaks if the caps are screwed on tightly. I have recommended these many times. Being soft, they conform to the inner hull, so take up less room than a plastic water bottle. Packing 10 days worth of water, you need all the storage space you can get.
Perfect addition to any water system
Bought the Dromlite 4L to go with my gravity flow 2L filter system. Does exactly what its supposed to do in an ultralight package! It is so convenient to have a bladder to fill at camp and then not worry about getting more water that day. Fills up quickly from my filter, and the end of the filter screws perfectly onto the Dromlite. Haven't noticed a bad taste at all, maybe because I washed it out when I got it and let it dry thoroughly after every trip. have left bag hanging full off of trees multiple times and have seen no durability issues. Highly recommend as a great addition to any water system.
Perfect for climbers
Simple, bomber - this can take a surprising amount of abuse, anything short of purposefully attacking it with a crampon. I toss it around with the same abandon I would a Nalgene, I certainly don't treat it as nice as other hydration bladders. It's a lot nicer to carry up a multi-pitch climb in a small pack than a bottle which sits awkwardly and digs into your back. Not to mention it's lighter and more space efficient than a bottle. I have the hose kit that I use sometimes for hikes or trail runs but most often I just use this on its own and sip from it at breaks. It's very versatile.
Bad taste in water be aware
I just got one of these bags the 2L one whit my mosko moto panniers and the taste of the water got awful first i thinks it was some contaminated water or bag but after some good disinfection and cleaning I travel 800 kms carring the bag on my bag and i got the same super bad plastic flavor on the water i used the water to clean my gear insted of drinking or washing my self. buyer be aware maybe you can drink it, but maybe you can get sick don't get these bag as you primary source of clean water, because MSR drop the ball on these. Great functionality but not for drinking.
So bummed!
I purchased this bag a few weeks ago and was so excited to have it back in my life. Years ago I traveled with a similar one on the back of my bicycle for a year through the US, Mexico and Central America. It was indispensable for transporting clean water around. I had someone borrow it from me last year and they loved it too, so I let them keep it and decided to purchase another one. Ordered this new one made of polyurethane, used it ONE time and before it made it home safely to be cleaned.. two days later... MOLD!!! I tried everything to get rid of it, contacted MSR, got their ideas to use different soaps and bleach and still nothing. I understand the material is cheaper, but seriously?? They were even out of ideas of how to remove the mold, MSR employee Daven eventually replying, ""From what it looks like, there isn't much direction I have left for this unfortunately. Sorry that happened"". I am beside myself with how this is acceptable for a product that used to be so amazing. Based on the other reviews I read, I see I am not the only one. Will not be purchasing any MSR products if I don't have to in the future. This is unacceptable.
Super compact
Light weight bag, bag is a soft foldable material, with an added flip top on the cap. Also has on top and bottom a ring to hang it.
