Good bag with easily avoidable flaws

I used a predecessor to this model for many years as our camp "dirty" water bag until the interior coating delaminated. It's compact, sturdy, and light for its capacity. We hung it from a branch and transferred water from it to a Sawyer gravity filter bag or used it as our camp washing station. MSR had the good idea of attaching the small screw-on cap/spigot combo with a string to the larger fill-cap to avoid losing it. However, the string is too short! The result is routine irritation when you try to screw the cap on or off as the string 's short length won't let you do it without some fancy finger-work. A second flaw is that the little pull-out spigot doesn't come out at 6 or 12 o'clock to the main cap, but rather at 3 or 9 o'clock. This means that you may find yourself with water squirting at you, rather than at whatever you're trying to fill. We used this bag for a five day backpacking trip last week and we all found these two flaws quite annoying and puzzling because they could so easily have been avoided. Honestly, if I can find something similar, I'm going to return the bag. It's too expensive to put up with these annoyance.

Water tastes like whatever the bag is stored with

I wanted to like this thing. Overlooking the fact that bladders in general are annoying to clean, this thing just wouldn't cut it. After putting up with the leaking and odor/taste leaching for a couple years I finally had to throw it away. For backpacking a bladder is obviously better than anything hard-sided, but for camping I'm just going to go with a tank of some kind. Pros: - Durable - Easily packable Cons: - Cap started leaking after a couple months, even if I tighten to the point of being almost impossible to remove - Holds odors and tastes worse than any bladder or bottle I've ever used. Cleaning it inside and out does nothing

Hiked 20 miles up Haleakala in maui!

This Dromedary bag saved my cousin and I. While her water source leaked, this bag kept every drop of our water safe and sound. No added flavor to the water, no leaking, and the spigot was an added happy bonus! I liked the handle and straps. easy to maneuver, tie down, and easily fill/pour. I read previous reviews, and was careful to properly dry it out when done. Really impressed and recommend!

The bag is pretty good but the cap is a total loser

I've bought several over the years and I will not buy another. First the old bags have a slightly different thread so the new caps don't fit properly they leak. It is sad that MSR doesn't back their older products, part of the throw away culture. The bag gives a chemical taste so I use it for washing. The old bag had an on off nozzle like a spigot which is not made any more. It was very useful for filling a pan with water, rinsing etc. Now all they have is a tiny spout or risk the entire bag empting on you, very ineffective especially if you hang the bag. What used to be a product I enjoyed using is now something I will never buy again.

Working great, as expected

Absolutely no spillage, wich was my fear from reviews. Quite rugged, no surprises having it resting on the soil and dirt, but always handled with care. The particular plastic taste indeed wears off after several -several- uses. I washed it lot of times before first use alternating sodium bicarbonate and vinegar solutions, wich I think helped. I use the smallest spout cap to release air when half full to reduce overall volume and reduce air bags inside. One thing I would like to know is if there is some official guidelines or tips for long term storage of the bag between outdoors seasons. The manual or the web doesnt give any clues regarding that topic.

Best Water bag I've had!

I've done a few desert trips with miserable water bags in my backpack that always leaked and left me with little water for several days and a soaked sleeping bag. Not on my last trip with the MSR Dromedary Bag. Very rugged outer bag made this very sturdy and the 6 L capacity was perfect for a 3-day trip. My only suggestion would be to use a different mechanism for controlling the outflow while in use. When the bag was hanging it was difficult to close the valve quickly enough to not lose water. Otherwise I'm please with my purchase.

Impossible to Eliminate the Chemical Smell & Taste

I really REALLY wanted to love this bag. Unfortunately, it gives water a strong chemical smell and taste. I've used it for 3 summers now, and have tried all of the methods I've found online to rid the bag of the chemical taste and smell - including the baking soda / lemon juice method that MSR publishes on their website. I've spent nearly as much money, and a LOT more time trying to get rid of the chemical taste and smell. I've now accepted the fact that I wasted my time and money. I only use this bag for water to wash dishes with. (Which is why it gets two stars instead of one.)

Heavy duty waterbag

I have used the 4L bag now for approx 4 years without any issue, the 3-in-1 cap gets worn over time but is still functioning witout any problem or leak. The rest of the bag is as good as new. Two minor thinks that might have to be considered: 1. Then trying to dry the bag something needs to put in to allow it to dry completely. 2. The bag is black. Together with sunsine the water in it will get quite warm. This can be good or bad depending on the situation. In genereal I actually like this so I can double-use it as a solar-shower bag :) Most of the time when using that bag I do cycle tours and attach it on top of my rear bicycle rack. Definitive a ""would-by-again""

Cap options

This water carrier is incredible. It’s durable, practical, versatile, I wanna but 3 more. But I have a silly issue with the cap. The little spout is useless. Takes forever for the water to run out. When you try to unscrew to the medium cap, water sprays out everywhere. I have a silly plastic water carrier from your local hardware store that has a fantastic nozzle about 14mm in diameter and a rotating tab for almost tap-like use. If I could purchase a separate cool cap for this product I would throw the other product out in a second. As a result I’m only using using the dromedary as a backup water source.

Great, collapsible water storage!

Needed something to store a little extra water while camping riverside during a float trip. We had a fair amount of gear already, and just wanted something for convenience at the camp so we didn't have to keep going to the river for water. Attached my MSR Guardian and filled this thing up in no time! The only downside was the cordage configuration did not lend for easy mounting. The durability is fantastic, and capacity ample for the size this things packs down to. I imagine you could hang this in the sun and get a bit of warm water to 'shower' with.
