Nice little scissors and knife set
This is a great quality kitchen scissors and knife set. I also have a camping stove by Snow Peak and it’s worked great over the years. This set seems to have similar quality. The case that it comes with is handy for storing, packing and wearing. The scissors are sharp and have a nice feel to them. I like the fact that I can take the scissors apart to clean. The bottle opener is the only other feature I would use on the scissors besides cutting something. The knife comes really sharp out of the box. I tested it on some carrots and it cut through them with ease. The only negative I have for it is the handle. It feels thin and small in my hand and I don’t have big hands. Overall I’m impressed with everything and look forward to many years of use for camping and around the house.
Great Addition to Your Car Camping Kit
Right out of the box you’re left with the feeling that you’re in for a treat. My first impression was it’s well made and quite substantial, yet fairly lightweight and simply designed. Basically, the craftsmanship you’d expect from Snow Peak. It’s probably not something you’d bring along backpacking (7.4oz all together), but for my wife and I, it’s found good use along car camping trips, or even at our little cabin, and other adventures. The kitchen scissors have a few things built into them (the bottle opener is especially useful) and they come apart for easy cleaning, but for some trips they’re almost a luxury item. So my favorite is having a real paring knife—and saying goodbye to chopping stuff with a pocket knife! I should note the paring knife comes unsharpened, so you’ll want to make sure to tune it up beforehand. It’s also designed and made in Japan, another sign they’re not messing around on the blade quality. You may be able to find something comparable for a lower price, but you get what you pay for. We also have a long road trip coming up next month, and I’m really excited that this is now in our travel kitchen set-up.
Great scissors, great knife, odd combination
Snow Peak is a manufacturer that I implicitly trust to put out high quality items, The oldest gear I still use, now approaching half my lifetime, was made by them after all. These scissors seem to be no exception, they're high quality and feature packed. They come apart which makes them easier to thoroughly sanitize or sharpen. They can crack nuts (not that I do so often), open bottles (which I do much more often), and pry open the seal on stuck lids (not that I'd admit to needing to often!). Theoretically the textured part of the handle can act as a meat tenderizer too but given how low the swing weight would be, I haven't bothered to try. Similarly, the paring knife is well made. It uses a right-handed single bevel blade, less common in western cutlery, that produces a razor-sharp edge and a finer, more delicate cut. Just don't sharpen it with your basic V-bevel sharpening kit and be cautious around bones as the precision edge will be more prone to chipping. The sheath leaves me a little confused though. Snow Peak made the handles out of an antibacterial resin but the sheath is a deeply woven linen that instantly attracts grime. The belt loop is awkwardly stiff and sewn closed rather than using a snap or clip so one doesn't have to undo their belt to use it. That it has a belt loop at all suggests that this a set of kitchen tools you want by your side but, in my opinion, I'd much rather have a compact santoku-style chef's knife on hand at all times. over a small paring knife. All in all, they're still high-quality tools and I'll be happy to own and use them for years to come. Just slightly perplexed as to the sheath design choice and the specific pairing as a package set.
Sturdy Case, Sharp Scissors and Knife
Convenient scissor and knife set that you can use in your own kitchen and for camping. I’ve been using the scissors in my kitchen just to test out how sharp it is before my camping trip and it has not disappointed. It cuts well and it’s smooth and it’s easy to clean because it comes apart into two pieces. I can stick it into the dishwasher and it gets washed perfectly. The little pairing knife that it comes with is handy and useful as well. For outdoor use it has conveniently come with a Belt Loop carrying strap where both scissors and knife can fit. Personally, I don’t think I’m going to carry on my belt (since I don’t tend to wear belts) but it is nice that it provided the option so you don’t easily lose it out there in the wilderness. The carrying case seems really sturdy & thick so there’s no fear of getting poked by what you are wearing. I would recommend this set as it works really well and it feels like quality.
Handy shears!
Great set of kitchen shears. Not the cheapies from Walmart and come with heavy duty sheath. The sheath has snaps on it to keep shears and bonus knife secure. I always kick myself for forgetting shears when going car camping but not anymore! Very sharp and smooth!
Love it!
I love this set. Got one set for the house, and one set to put in our camping gear. The knife is great for trimming wild game. In fact, I had to buy a third, as my husband confiscated one for his hunting gear after trying it out. It's nice having the sheath to keep the knife & scissors together. Be careful ... the knife is very sharp.
Perfect for the Campsite Gourmet Chef
Actually purchased this in Japan. Great add-on for the kitchen. Very sharp and well made.
