great bike for the price!
My son has had it for a year and it's been confidence inspiring for my 7 year old. My 9 year old has a different brand and the coop is your far lighter better equipped etc. only downside are the pedals hurt if they scrape the back of his leg. Fixed with long socks
Good child-appropriate bike / flawed fork /no MTB?
I started mountain biking in 1999, I have ridden various bikes, and I do routine bike maintenance and repairs myself. The review is for the 2 bikes I have bought for my sons. Positives: - overall workmanship, - using gripshift instead of rapidfire levers (easier for kids, cannot break in a crash) - protective cage for the sensitive rear derailleur (unique on the market; you want those if your kids are as wild as mine) - a sturdy metal chain protector in the front - color scheme - my sons love it - price (when considering features) - weight (at the low end of the range) - bike stand (can be removed with ease) Negatives: - front fork travel is nominal only, maybe 1 inch, and not supple; to be expected at this price point, but maybe a disappointment for some buyers; rigid fork may have been the cheaper and more robust choice, but not available - the dust protectors on the front fork came loose immediately; friction with the fork pipes is too high; tried to fix it with WD-40, that didn't do the trick; grease worked, at least for now, to be monitored - WATCH OUT: on the website it's called an MTB for trail use, but in the user manual's fine print it states that this mountain bike is Category 1 (suitable for riding on the sidewalk only), ergo NOT for mountain biking. This may be just another way to limit liability, but I consider this outrageous. Are these bikes suitable for mountain biking or not?
Great first gear all around bike
My just 9 yr old daughter was ready to move up and this bike fit the bill. Light, components work great, shifters are easy though she has to work for the big ring from the front derailleur. This is better than the trek IMO. The rear derallier not only has a guard but a replaceable mount, she already rides it hard.
Great fit
My son is a hefty 9 YO. He loves riding this bike on or off street. We’ve used on easy trails (not too rooty/ rugged). It’s sturdy & great quality. We’ll get years out of this one! The gears make the bike fun regardless of the incline.
Great Bike for my 11 years old son
Good quality. My son really enjoy riding it. Good selection for the amount of gear.
