Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light Jacket for a Wet Climate I had my previous NF jacket replaced under warranty, excellent policy by the way, and I bought this jacket. The jackets' shell is very light but appears to repel moisture very well. It has a lot of features and the pit vents are a plus when things get hot. I am a bit judgmental on the NF Logo and Summit Series Logo. I would have liked the see the traditional stitching like on the rest of my NF stuff, instead they used some sort of screen printing which doesn't impress me much, but maybe there is some functional reason for this. The sizing does seem to run a smidgen smaller on this item especially if you want to wear a fleece layer underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable - stylish - Jacket This is a great looking, well made jacket that will allow me to use it all year round - I use it as a shell on the weekends with a hoodie when it's colder, I use it on my way to work when its 40 degree and going up to 50. I will be able to use it in the spring and summer - I will use it golfing - I use it to take the kids to bus stop when it's raining or to take the dog out. This is not a jacket to keep you warm in colder condition alone but to use as a shell that is water and wind proof - definitely does the job with style. I would highly recommend this jacket and I could give 500 more reason why if I had more time. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for money I've used this for one season of single day mountaineering and alpine climbing trips and have been satisfied. It has resisted basic scrapes on rocks and breathes surprisingly well, although the pit zips are absolutely crucial, just as they would be on a GTX jacket. The hood fits perfectly over a helmet and it stays secure under the harness. It is showing some pilling and wear at the contact points of the pack straps, especially under the arms. However it still functions fine. It kept out all the elements during one climb when the weather turned very nasty and we were forced to turn around. The fit is perfect and i'd feel comfortable using this jacket for one season of hard use or two seasons of moderate use. It is obviously less durable than a GTX pro jacket, but it has held up to everything I've thrown at it. For the price point i think the performance is exceptional. This could be a 3-5 year jacket for a weekend warrior hiker or casual user and is more comfortable to wear around than GTX.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable for its 12 oz weight I have bought NF gear since 1970 and don't even know how much I have but this is my latest acquisition. This is not a negative comment it was simply a small problem. This was the first piece of NF gear with which I had even the slightest failure. There is a wire which maintains the shape of the bill on the hood and a rubber tip was left off this or came off at some point shortly after I bought this. So the wire poked through the fabric. I sent it in and about a month later received it back fully and properly repaired at no charge for anything including shipping. They even sent me and email giving me a progress report. Great service! The jacket performs as stated and will keep you dry in a very heavy San Francisco fog or even light rain, and you never feel any wind penetrating it. I do recommend wearing a long sleeve wicking type undershirt or T so the inside surface doesn't feel clammy against your bare arms. Overall this is a fine product as is usually the case with NF. I also bought one for my teenage son which he has already worn many times and there hasn't been any problem or sign of wear on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Light-weight waterproof jacket I've ever owned I tried on this jacket in-store and fell in love. It's my new favorite commuting shell, especially when it rains. It has all the right technical adjustment points to make the hood, wrists and waist "wind and wet ready". It's more tailored and significantly lighter than Northface's other rain gear (like feather-light). It's also got just a little stretch to it, which makes it very comfortable, something not common in rain gear. I could take this jacket climbing, running etc and not feel like my mobility was hampered. The only cons, if there are any, is that it's not available in other colors (would have loved to get plain black) and that it's not built to keep you warm in sub-40s, but hey...it's not designed for that and if it was, you couldn't take it out on those days when you need it to perform when you're doing more athletic activities (climbing, biking, running etc) which is where this jacket excels. Love this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breathable and does the job in the rain Fit: the garment was an excellent fit with some space to allow for layering. However, the sleeves could be a tad bit longer. Design: is just that though it's outdoor gear, it's meant to be tough for those day hikes or excursions and yet stylish at the same time. Overall:The jacket handled well for a downpour, the pit zippers worked well to ventilate when it started getting warm inside. It's a good replacement for my older TNF rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice upgrade from previous model jacket Material is very very soft making me wonder if this will be waterproof, and i got to try it out early and often down here in rainy Florida. Can't wait to try the x large hood over my ski helmet next year for spring skiing
