By far in over 40 years of camping this is the best tent I've ever owned. High quality materials and workmanship is an understatement. This tent doesn't have everything, but certainly has everything one needs. But it would be nice to have the availability of a detachable garage, but since I have a large canopy it's not needed. It's rated as a 4 person tent and has enough room for four people to sleep comfortably. However I use it as a two person tent. It is very spacious and comfortable for my extended camping trips. The vestibule is a little on the small side but still provides enough room for gear storage. Having 2 of them makes it better. And there are some interior convenience and organizational pockets to keep smaller items from getting lost. In 48 days of camping on its first year the tent has held excellently thru nice and not so nice weather. Never spent a wet night or worried about collapse in high winds. It is easily set up and taken down and packed. Not allot of time required. I usually set it up by myself. Ventilation is good, no internal sweating in the cooler weather I experience while camping.
First, we wanted a tent for 2 adults, a 7-year old and the family dog (a 55 lb Lab mix). We looked at a lot of tents and we narrowed it down to the Marmot Tungsten 4P and Marmot Limestone 4P. We received both at the same time and our hunch was the Limestone as it had more height. We setup the Limestone in our back yard and didn't even bother setting up the Tungsten. While the Tungsten came with a footprint, we purchased the footprint add-on for the Limestone. We camped 2 nights a few nights later and love this tent for it's roominess, excellent quality and ease-of-setup. Having been a Kelty fan for years, I felt I was betraying Kelty with this purchase.
I am not much of a person to review products, but I am reviewing this tent because it is important to tell others the quality is poor. I have only used this tent 2 times since receiving and there is already a seam tear at the bottom of one door entry. Positives....very spacious which was the purpose of this tent purchase. I was just hoping for the Marmot standard quality in their products.
My goal was to find a 4p tent that could fit 2 cots and a dog comfortably and be setup by one person if needed. This tent checks all those boxes and has good build quality at a decent price. I would give 5 stars, but this tent has some odd design choices. Pros: Can fit 2 green Coleman cots without poking into the side walls and still have a roomy walkway in the middle (see pic). The head and feet area does get close to the doors, so in very strong winds there might be a problem. Can fit 1 Coleman cot without worry about the cot ripping the tent in high winds Good build quality Nice overhead pockets Good enough headroom for changing in the tent The vestibule area is large, but not to big that you must reach our really far to unzip it Kept me dry Cons: Only one door is mesh... maybe they will change this in the next generation Can be hard to setup by yourself, but doable The doors zip to the bottom of the door frame (see pic), means they can get muddy or dirty If not setup correctly, water can pool above the vestibule opening, pouring water on you when you leave the tent. Overall, I like this tent, it does everything I wanted it to do and the cons can be mitigated with a little bit of thought.
We've taken it out twice - easy to set up (we pitched it in the dark the first time with no issues). It's room, has a few pockets inside, a hook for an indoor light, etc. and a few loops too if you want to hang more stuff from the ceiling. My two disappointments after limited use: you're four stakes short if you need to use the guy lines (WHY Marmot???) and footprint sold separately for a bit of a steep price. All in all, a good tent so far. I'm looking forward to using in in a good rain and/or high winds, but based on other reviews I believe it will perform well. As it's new, can't rate durability yet...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tent is perfect for car camping in even the worst weather. Sets up easily and intuitively. The tent ventilates well. I love the two massive doors. Fits four people comfortably with gear stored in the vestibules, and can even fit two cots!. I am 6'1" and the tent is tall enough to almost stand up in. Used this camping at Bryce Canyon over Memorial Day weekend. Woke up to 3" of snow on the ground. Tent held up well to the inclement weather and dried out quickly. I would recommend purchasing the available footprint. My only gripe is that it does not include stakes for the guy lines. I looked at this tent for well over a year before purchasing, and I am so glad I did! Easily the best tent I own!
This tent was awesome for my family of 2.5 to 3. We just got back from our first camping trip as a family of three. We took our 1.5 year old son on his first camping trip and due to this tent it was a full success! We could fit a pack-and-play fully set up with our Colman double queen air mattress plus had extra room for gear! Although the weather was a little warm, we stayed perfectly cool with no rain-fly and enjoyed our nightly view of the sky! Prefect tent for a small family!! Thank you Marmot, and thank you REI!
This tent is very easy to set up. The rainfly is more difficult. Set this up camping. Once done we realized one opening is just mesh and the other opening is full coverage sealed so there is no way to ventilate and keep bugs out. By this I mean that neither opening is a double closure with screen AND privacy. The rainfly on the mesh side dies not come down far enough to keep dust, rain, etc. out when the wind blows. We returned it. Plan to buy a Big Agnes 4 dome
My wife and I recently chose the Marmot Limestone 4P tent over the Marmot Limelight 3P tent due to the additional room for storing gear on either side of our 30 inch wide sleeping pads. We also purchased the optional footprint. We spent three nights at Stonewall Jackson State Park last week, and it rained heavily on each of the first two nights. We stayed perfectly dry at all times. It was fairly hot and humid each night and, with the fly on, the tent was a bit too hot when we first went to bed. It cooled down after an hour or two and we were fine after that. Perhaps four vents (instead of two) would help as might mesh in the rear door instead of polyester taffeta. The tent is easy to set up and is high quality. The zippers open easily and do not catch on the tent material. This was a great choice for our car-camping excursions.
This is my second Marmot tent, needed a bigger one. I was able to set this tent up by myself in less than 8 min. It has vents in the fly if you need air circulation, as well as a couple of small cubbies in the top corner to stash sun glasse or other smaller items you need to keep track of. The front door zipps down and folds up into a pouch in the center to keep it neatly stowed. Another thing I liked was the built in hook in the center of the celing to hang a light from.
