Rated 4 out of 5 by from love it. I’ve been using head lamps since the 1960’s, rock climbing, caving, camping, general outdoor stuff. I now do Astronomy outreach for a University in the Rocky Mountains. This light has almost everything I need. Switch does not come on in my pack, red light so as to not blow you night vision (very important in astronomy and moon light hiking), light weight and small, the zipka cord lets you easily put it other places then just your head (wrist, bike seat-handle bars, car hood latch, tree branch...), two levels of white light, both bright enough to get me down the trail when be-nighted, durable enough. The only thing I would like added is the ability to aim it down toward the ground – so as to not shine it in my friend’s eyes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great update! I have owned a previous version of the Zipka for a long time and really love the form factor. It's wonderful to have something so light and that doesn't get tangled up inside your pack. I just upgraded to this latest version primarily because it has the red LED for preserving night vision, but I also really love that it has a glow-in-the-dark ring around the main LED so it's easy to locate long after you've turned it off. I also like that, unlike the older version, this one stays in the last mode you had it in, so if you turn it off in low mode it will be in low mode when you turn it back on. The low and red modes will probably be what I use most, as they're plenty bright for most tasks around camp. I also considered the Petzl e+Lite, but settled on this one due to the batteries lasting a bit longer and being more widely-available in trail towns. I will say that, just like the last version, if you have long hair you may not like it, or may need to be more careful when retracting the band so it doesn't get caught. It will also leave faint indents on your forehead but they go away quickly enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most veristile head lamp I got the original light like a few years ago, and I saw this light last month. and ordered this one. I kind of just got it, and played with it over the week end. And its an awesome light, the retractable part is why i got it. Highly recommend over other head lamps, just because of the retractable part, goes on my bicycle handle bars. also this light is really bright.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! I have had the old Petzl Zip+4 for years now (still works great) so when I saw this one I figured I needed it as a backup. Now I think the old one will be backup. This one is much brighter and also has the benefit of a red LED to preserve night vision. It's also cheaper than the old one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most versatile for many purposes I love this light. Unlike most head lamps this one can be worn on your arm, ankle or hook it to a tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best headlamp ever I love this light, best one I've ever used. It's compact, lightweight, and super bright! Love the red light option, which is bright enough to see considerably well at night without losing your night vision. Would happily recommend this to anyone looking for the perfect headlamp!

Do you have to cycle through all the modes to turn the light off?

Asked by: mollser
You do not have to cycle through all of the brightnesses to turn it off. Basically the way it works is that as soon as you turn it on you can do a light tap to switch brightnesses or a long tap to switch white/red. Once it's been sitting for a few seconds, any press will just turn it immediately off. Your next press after that will turn it back on into either red or the lowest white depending on what color you were using before. (I own this product).

Ignore my previous one: Does this come with the core battery? Is the core battery on the REI site good for this? The video shows a different core battery setup. That's why I'm confused.

Asked by: Maven
The Core battery is not included. The Core battery we have on our site is compatible with this headlamp. You can find it online here:

Below you just said it has a 60 hour burn time on high and to my question you said a 60 hour burn time on medium. Seems like there's a disconnect. Also, does this headlamp allow for tilt adjustment?

Asked by: BRwelborn
This head lamp has 60 hours of burn time on both high (200 lumens) and medium (100 lumens). It does not have the tilt feature.
