Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good rock scrambling pant Purchased these for rock scrambling and I was well pleased. The fit was comfortable. They stretch well and are quite abrasion resistant. The gussets on the knees are great when you have to make large stretches for the next foothold. My one complaint is the waistband snap. It is a new design and does not stay snapped which required me to wear a belt with them. I contacted the store where I purchased them and they agreed to replace them with a new pair. I was unable to return them yet but I do not think my pair was defective. I think it's just a poor design. If it were not for that I would have given this pant a 5.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect Just finished up breaking these in with some fieldwork in Panama. They are incredibly comfortable--fabric is durable and stretchy, waistband is a nice width/height, they dry very quickly, tuck into rubber boots well, and the extra fabric around the knee is perfect. I'd give them 5 stars in a heartbeat if it wasn't for those darn (I was using much stronger language in the field...) snaps! They don't stay snapped at all. The one plus to that is I did some ab work sucking my gut in, though that didn't seem to help much. Other than that, and the obvious need for cargo pockets, these pants are great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love these pants! I love these pants. I went hiking and it started off cool and ended up being very warm by the end of the day. These pants were perfect! I was never uncomfortable. When the weather warmed up, I just rolled them up and was good to go. They are very comfortable. The only thing I did not like was that the snaps popped open a couple of times for no reason...and the pants are a little big on me, not snug at all. Next time I'll wear a belt and I'm sure it won't be an issue. I would recommend these pants for hiking for sure!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fit and fabric great! Snap not so much... I bought these a few weeks ago and love the updated ( from last year's model) fit and style. They are comfortable for hiking in the heat and, important to me, they are higher waisted than other hiking pants at REI. They are my new favorite pants! The one issue, shared by almost everyone already, is that snaps come undone every time I bend over, which is infuriating. I don't want to have to wear a belt to keep my pants closed. The plastic snaps on the legs work beautifully but the ones at the waist are useless. I recommend with reservations as a result.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They're exactly what I wanted These pants are exactly what I have been looking for, they cut the wind chill, the repel western Washington rain, they are loose enough to fit over a base layer in the winter and be breezy and cooling in the summer months. They don't all down (which is a first for me). I am 5'7", about 150lbs, and I have an athletic/hourglass build. I can't wait for our next adventure because these are my favorite pants right now! The only thing that is wrong with them is when I bend over the snap-buttons pop open, but this is such a minor flaw to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are fantastic. I got them on a whim, but wore them hiking three times right after my purchase. Got them muddy. Wiped it off. Didn't have time to wash my hemmin between but was able to make them presentable with just a wet cloth. They were comfortable in colder weatherm(low 40s) to 60s with the legs down. Probably could have worn in much warmer weather with the legs rolled. My new fav hiking pants. Mid March -they went from Zion to Bryce to Carlsbad and Guadalupe. My 4 Park hikers!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bad fit for petite I bought these pants in early April as I needed a good pair for hiking. The other reviewer's comments about the snaps are still true. The 2 snaps are useless and do not hold when I bend over. Also, I bought the pants knowing I would need to hem them. I did so but found another issue. The seam that runs across the thigh hit me (I'm 5'3") just at the knee and causes friction with each step. The pants are unwearable for me and I cannot return them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the color and length I picked these up on a vacation when I realized I needed something more windproof but not too heavy. The color goes with many tops I already own and they're not too long for me at 5'2", though they roll up for warmer weather. My only complaint is that the snaps pop open on the waistband when sitting so I had to buy a belt.

A couple questions: What do the pants weight? I am trying to plan some lightweight packing for a trip. Also, are you planning to fix the snap issue? I love these pants, but the snaps on the waistband continually unsnap, for price they shouldn't.

Asked by: Rainy
These pants weigh approximately 12 ounces. These particular pants use an inset double snap closure to hold the waist securely in place.

How does the waistband adjustment work? Mine just have the elastic part showing, nothing to tighten/clasp it.

Asked by: riverhiker
Notice there is a small metal, paper clip- like piece in the slot inside the waistband. You pull the elastic and then pull it into the narrow slit part of the clip. I just discovered this!

Has anyone used these for a lightweight pair of pants for travel? We are planning a trip to Europe in the fall and I am looking for pants that could be versatile for wearing for many different activities and still be comfortable and look good for days.

Asked by: Rainy
I personally do think these would be ok for everywhere .... but I am just in the process of deciding myself. They are lightweight (12oz from another answer). Definitely roomy enough to add leggings or similar as another layer for warmth if needed. The fabric seems quite hearty (not sheer) without being heavy. I am planning to also purchase a belt to circumvent the potential trouble with the snaps. I'm afraid the belt will weigh more than the pants! I am shopping for pants with deep front pockets (yes) and two back pockets (yes with flaps) there is an extra "credit card/ coin pocket". I am planning to wear them at school (teacher) with cute shoes as the weather warms up into the 60s and 70's.

Would these pants be good for snow shoeing?

Asked by: Riveratawny
These pants are a good choice for snowshoeing as they are water resistant and breathable. However, you may need to add a base layer to ensure you stay warm enough as these are not insulated.

What is the difference between these Screelines and the ones that were going on clearance for $38.xx ? I'm curious about the specs difference.

Asked by: AngelM
The pants were updated this year so they now have a UPF rating of 50. Additionally, the legs can now be easily rolled up.

Why can't they make more than 2 colors? I have both colors in the style before the hybrids, but an olive green would be awesome for us that need that color for a uniform.
