Velcro heel strap! Super comfortable.
I tried on several pairs of similar sandals at the store and chose these because they were by far the most comfortable. You can't tell from the photos or the description, but these have a velcro heel strap (which is why there's no loop on the top of the back for pulling them on), which makes for easier on/off and greater flexibility in adjusting fit. The inside is super soft, and fits my wide feet (with bunions) really well. I chose the same size I usually get for athletic shoes or boots, although usually for barefoot shoes I go a half size smaller. I plan on wearing these at the rocky beaches on the north shores of Long Island. The non-marking sole means I can wear them sailing, too. Perfect! If you are someone who needs "support" in your shoe, these may not be for you, but my feet are happier without those lumps and bumps underfoot, so they are great for me.
Not just for the outdoors
I bought these sandals a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying them. I don't just wear them for the outdoors but to run errands and even to work. I have a high instep, so some of the other Keen sandals were not comfortable, but the Sage has a perfect fit. Very comfortable, gives a nice cushion as you walk, but not flimsy. I especially like how lightweight they are compared to other Keens.
Great adjustable fit
These sandals fit really well, which I attribute to the velcro strip on the back of the heel. I have found that I am more between half sizes in most keen sandals and most fit either too tight or too loose. This velcro adjustment strap is perfect as it lets me pick the perfect fit. These are really comfy and do a great job protecting my feet when messing around on the beach and when kayaking.
For water
I bought this sandals a month ago meant for hiking. I asked the salesman before I bought it. The next time I came back, talked to another salesman and he said that one has no good support. Very light and only good for water or just for regular walking. I gave a 4 star because it's comfortable but not good for hiking.
Perfect all around
I had my last pair of Keens (Venice H2) for almost 8 years and they finally wore through. I was leary of the new style but they are even more comfortable right out of the box. They are light weight but rugged. They have less toe coverage and I don't know how big of a deal that will be when I'm hiking, etc. Also I usually wear a 6 but I bought the 6.5 because this style is more narrow than the H2.
Best. Shoes. Ever
I bought these a week before going to the beach in Panama City Beach, FL. I ended up wearing them the entire week before leaving (other than some work shoes that are required). They are the only shoes I brought with me on vacation. So comfortable. Plenty of cushion. They are just cool enough, but plenty warm when indoors with air conditioning. I love them.
Very Comfortable!
I bought these very comfortable sandals 3 months ago and just bought a second pair in black. I have a very difficult time finding sandals due to a narrow heel and terrible bunions. The generous footbed width with adjustable lacing and adjustable Velcro heel strap allow for a perfect fit. I have used them for boating, hiking, long distance walking, on the beach and in the ocean in CA. For each activity they have been comfortable and dry out quickly.
Need a full size larger
I wish I had read all of the reviews before ordering these sandals--as others have found out, like I did, that one may need a FULL size larger than you usually take. I ordered two pair online (one black, one this color) in size 10.5 and I started having second thoughts that I should have ordered one in 11. I know Keen's run short, but I didn't remember they were THAT short. The size I have been most of my life was 9.5 AA, but I now seem to take a 10 in most shoes (they don't seem to make AA anymore). I do like the fact that I can take them back to my local REI store--a short bike ride away for me.
Comfortable, but not true to size.
I bought 3 pairs of these for myself and two others. None of us fit the our regular shoe size but a size larger. Personally, I normally wear an 8 Womens. My heel hung off the back and the 8 and 8.5. Sadly the 9 was just too big and too wide so I returned mine. The two others wore 6.5 and 7.5 Womens. They ended up getting a 7.5 and 8.5. Depending on the width of you feet, a narrower foot may find it too roomy, I have a "normal" size foot and it was a little roomy even with the straps pulled tight. My one friend has a wider foot and it was fine. My narrow footed friend said she would just go with it since she didn't have another shoe to buy at last minute, We used the shoes to hike in Kauai and Hawaii. The shoes did very well although a bit of soreness in the upper heel since the heel cover is high. In most cases this is good because it holds your foot in place. But lots of walking/hiking in a day leaves a mark. The adjustable heel straps were great! Main reason why we picked these shoes. Toe guard was perfect. Not too over the top and not too flimsy. Too bad they didn't fit me or I probably would have liked them. We washed them after use since the dirt in Hawaii is red (in case you didn't know) and we didn't want our pretty shoes to have red stains. It all came out fine since we didn't wait too long to do it (a quick bath in the ocean helped too before heading home). After washing them off we just left them out overnight to dry. I ended up getting another pair that were more like a "shoe" than a sandal. Sadly, those left me with 4 blisters, not from being new, but from a design flaw. You can read about that in another review. This is the first time I have had problems finding a shoe. Usually I can just buy an 8 right off the shelf and take them home with no problems. I guess hiking shoes are a different story...
Very Comfortable
Like all Keens, wide toe box makes these shoes very comfortable. The mesh across the top of the foot does not rub at all and these shoes are comfortable to wear all day in and out of the water. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star from me is that the grip was not great on muddy slopes. Wore these on several waterfall hikes and had no issues with the river/creek crossings but on the muddy slopes, lost traction many times.
