Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Base camp bad After hiking the AT and sleeping on a Neoair Trekker for 4.5 months, I joined a trail crew for two months. Weight was no longer an issue, so I brought my XL Luxary Map pad. The NeoAir XLite and Trekkers are comfortable, but switching to this, it felt like I was sleeping on a bed. Hands down the best portable base camp pad I've owned. After trail crew, I used the pad in the back of my truck when I drove across country and when I finally returned to civilization, I slept on this pad for a month before I broke down and bought a bed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What Was Needed Last month I decided the foam in my VW Camper had gotten just a little too firm so I went looking for a pad to supplement it. This one fit all my criteria for length, depth and width (didn't want to fall off when I rolled over). I was on a long camping trip and this pad was everything I could want. I was a little concerned that it might be hard to roll up but it turned out to be easy--it even fits nicely back in the bag that came with in. I love that the depth is adjustable. I'm definitely taking this along on all my future camping trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For sleeping like the dead, low to the ground I bought this for car camping and have spent the last 2 weeks sleeping on it (while ski touring volcanoes and living out of a car)... I didn't believe it was possible to adore an inflatable mattress this much. The fabric is pleasant to touch and feels very durable. The self-inflation works best if you open the valve and leave it alone for 2 hours, but even when I want to inflate the pad immediately, the comfort is well worth the head rush from blowing it up. And don't get me wrong, it takes a good 5 minutes to wrangle the thing back into its sleeve, but it's kinda become a labor of love that I'm happy to perform.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from like sleeping at home I bought a luxury map last year, and have used it now for two fire seasons. Of course it doesn't work for the hike in fires, but used extensively for all other times, and love it. I sleep so much better, than I used to on smaller pads.. You can roll over, turn, and don't fall off this thing. And you feel nothing through it... I leave a little air out from being totally inflated and it's great, just enough give to make you feel like you are sleeping at home. This is my 25th fire season and this thermarest makes it so I can still get up and function each day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So comfortable! I love this pad. I had a Therm-a-Rest ProLite which was fine, until I went camping in a slick rock area in Moab. I tried moving my tent around, but the rock kept jutting into my back with the ProLite. I bought a Luxury Map the next morning, and have slept like a baby ever since. It would likely be too big and heavy for backpacking, but if you're car camping, it's the best. I'll be buying a second one and a coupler for my boyfriend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes camping almost as comfortable as home I bought two of these sleeping pads two months ago in a splurge to outfit me and my wife with complete car camping gear to explore the sights of California. I knew before reading on a few sites (Indefinitely Wild namely) that the sleeping gear is the most important place to spend your money. I knew if I couldn't get a good night of sleep, all my gear would be a waste and I would have to force my unwilling self to camp. This sleeping pad goes beyond making sleeping on the ground an only-just-tolerable experience to a comfortable "seriously let's do this again soon!" experience... and that's exactly what camping should be! The low temps reached upper 40s and I felt well insulated from the ground using this pad with my cheap, old 50* sleeping bag. Throw in some ear plugs, eye shades, a good pillow and you will wonder why you still pay California rent when your tent is this comfortable. It conveniently inflates itself while you make yourself busy setting up the rest of your camp. A few extra breaths to get it to the right firmness and you're all set. Read the directions as there is an initial overnight inflation recommended and deflating instructions that might not be intuitive for everyone. It feels high quality and well built, but only time will tell how it holds up to wear. As for the downsides... I really can't think of any. I will say that this is not meant for backpacking if that isn't obvious. It's relatively heavy and takes up probably about 10" diameter when rolled up. I am 6' and roughly 195lbs and the Large is just the right size. I'm able to fit two of these (just barely) into my REI Half Dome 2 tent. My wife is 5'9" and also enjoys the size of the sleeping surface. I was set on buying this pad in blue before I bought it from the Outlet section for a bit cheaper in a less desirable shade of purple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Sleep Away From Home I bought this a year ago and couldn't be happier with the luxury map. My wife and I used it on a camping trip in Newfoundland and were so happy we paid a little bit more to be comfortable. We have since used it many times and have had others sleep on it when they visit. I recommend this thing to anyone I see. If you want a great sleep get this! The only thing I would say is that my wife and I are very skinny so we bought the small, if you can afford it and your not taking this backpacking than I would definitely recommend getting the larger ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decadence and comfort Take a pillow and sleep in this pad and you will feel like in your own bed. I bought this about two years ago and is the best sleeping pad I've ever had since its thickness, support for my back and self inflating features is just awesome. Sure this pad is not meant for backpacking since its packing size is quite big in comparison to a inflatable air pad (which lacks that supportive and comfortable self-inflating "foam") but its so comfortable thath I have brought it with me to short (2-3 days) backpacking trips. Therm-a-Rest just give importance to every single detail in the making of this product, is super super comfortable and in two years of hard using it, the pad is in perfect shape. Josh

What is the minimum comfortable temperature rating in Fahrenheit degrees? ...more or less.

Asked by: rudeness
Cant really answer, since I think it depends more on the ground temperature than the air temps. In other words, if you go camping in fall when the ground is still holding heat then you wont feel the cold coming thru the mattress, but if you went in early spring when the ground is frozen then you might feel it. But then even if you do feel some ground chill, you can still pile on more blankets/thicker sleeping bag and still be comfortable. Since this pad is for car camping I would just be sure to bring plenty of bedding the first few times and adjust as needed - till you get a sense of how much is needed. Love this pad- its thickness will obviously keep you better insulated than a thinner pad.

Hard to deflate?camping and moving around every few nights

Asked by: Sabi
This pad is easy to deflate, you simply open up the nozzle and start rolling your pad away for storage – this typically takes about 4 minutes and will take less time the more you become accustomed to your pad.

Please explain WHICH valves and HOW MANY valves do I open when the instructions say "with valve(s) open" ? Then what is supposed to happen when it says "let pad self-inflate"? Looks like NOTHING in 3 hours. Makes me think I got the wrong valve(s)?

Asked by: Mrsmonk
This sleeping pad only has one valve. Out of the box these self-inflating air mattresses will have to be manually inflated the first couple of times they are used. We recommend leaving the pad inflated overnight we brand new. This gives the open-cell foam time to expand. After the first couple of uses the pad will inflate on it's own more efficiently.

How is this in the tropics? i.e. can get too hot sleeping on some foam mattresses.

Asked by: suzie5
People have used this product successfully in tropical environments. If you tend to sleep warm, you may want to select an air pad.

Would I notice a difference in comfort between this 3" pad, and the 2.5" REI pad I'm using now? The extra width of this pad in XL is what interested me first, but looking for another reason to splurge on two of these.

Asked by: QTip
The extra ½" of thickness along with the additional width of the XL pad will have a significant impact on your overall comfort from our experience.
