Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super comfy but lacking some features This backpack is amazingly comfortable. I packed it full with water and my survival gear and hiked in a pretty tough canyon in warm weather in AZ. The structure lifts the pack off of your back so you get a nice breeze all the time. The smaller size was nice because we were crawling over boulders and under brush. I wish there were more pockets on the inside of the pack. I was also really disappointed to find that there was no way to take a bladder tube out of the bag. You can feed it under the top but its a bit short and awkward. It fits two big nalgenes in the side pockets though. Just seems like a strange design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great travel pack I have used this pack as a weekend travel pack so far and it is excellent for that purpose - it is VERY roomy - fits a ton of clothes without being unwieldy or feeling too bulky. Fits under airline seats when packed fully. It feels good on when fully packed, thanks to the solid hipbelt, and I really like the size and locations of pockets. Have not yet tried out the built in rain cover, but it seems like a handy feature. I was hoping to use this pack also as a field pack (I am a geologist, and long days of hiking and carrying around many rough, heavy rocks is quite hard on packs). A few reasons this pack will make a good field daypack is that the material is pretty tough and the main compartment closes with a drawstring rather than a zipper (the amount of dust and dirt my packs see is killer on zippers - they are always the first thing to fail). But a major drawback for me is that this pack was not designed with hydration systems in mind - a fact that I didn't really notice and think about until I got it home and used it a few times. Although it does have a pocket for a bladder inside, there is no hook to hang/support a heavy bladder inside the pack, there is no hole built in for the hose to extend out and come over the shoulder, and there are no loops or straps of any kind on the shoulder straps to anchor your hose to. I think this is a major drawback as a hiking pack, but if you prefer water bottles over bladders it would not be an issue.

I am 5'2 and am going to hike Machu Piccu and was wondering what the best pack was for me? I heard Dueters was great.I know Dueters has a good selection. Anybody want to give me a few answers? Thanks

What pack you choose depends on how much of your gear you will have to carry and how long you will be out of reach of food and water re-supply. Your question may be better answered by contacting us directly. We can be reached at 1-800-426-4840.
