Deuter  Schmusebar Pack - Kids'

This is the most perfect, starter backpack for your toddler or child. It's very small so pretty much any kid that can run, can carry this pack. They will grow out of it once they start school, but I loved this pack for my kids when they were five and younger. Deuter is the most durable kids backpack on the market. It was important for me to find a pack that would withstand my kids constant use of the pack. My kids like to throw their backpacks, fill their backpacks and sit on their backpacks. And 5-6 years later, the packs still work and not even a buckle has broken. Full disclosure, I am a Deuter Ambassador and Professional Skier.

Our four year old loves this pack. It’s well-made and very cute. My only complaint is that the pouches on the side are too small to easily fit an insulated water bottle or a kids Nalgene. She clips the bottle into the chest strap instead, but it wobbles around and bothers her from time to time.

Got this for my 2yr old so he can carry his own stuff on our frequent bike rides around town and hikes. It’s nice and simple, just a clip to keep the top closed and a couple stretchy pockets on the outside for water bottles or snacks. It’s a little large for him now but he’ll grow into it. It seems durable and we expect to pass it on to our younger son when he gets there.

My 2.9 year old son LOVES it! Was so happy he wore it for a while empty. It's much better than I imagined when I ordered it. He feels like part of the crew!

This backpack is perfect for my 4 year old’s outdoor school needs.

We bought this backpack for our son when we travel and had hoped it could double as a school backpack (spoilier, it can't). Our son loves the color and the design and gets excited to put it on and carry it himself. From the perspective of a small child, the size is ideal and well proportioned. As another reviewer mentioned, the water bottle mesh and elastic pockets aren't quite deep enough to hold a child's water bottle securely; it fits but it also easily falls out and can't be relied on. The other frustration is the size, an extra inch in either dimension would allow this pack to work for school; to fit a standard folder. The description says it's a school pack but unfortunately it isn't. Overall, we love the backpack and believe it will last a long time. Hopefully Deuter takes some of the feedback into account and improves the water bottle pockets at the least.

Nice kids backpack. Well constructed, design my kid loves, drawstring main compartment provides easy access for tiny hands, and side pockets retain small water bottles/snacks well. I like not being the pack mule for everyone’s gear on weekend hikes and it gives the little ones a sense of pride to pack their own “big boy packs”

This is a great pack that my daughter used from 2~5 years old. It's simple, durable, and fun.

My 18 month old loves it and is sized so that he will be able to use it for years. Quality seems on par with other Deuter products.

The design is great and makes my son a part of the experience of hiking out with gear. He carries his own clothes and a toy in there without problems. He is four and loves the pack. When not using it for trips, he uses it as his school bag and it has endured all the abuse four year olds put it through. Would buy another one for my daughter if they were still available.
