Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended Cycling computer This is the easiest cycling computer to setup and use. After using other brands for some time and never being totally satisfied I switched to Garmin. The positive reviews across users and the professional reviewers convinced me to take a change. The Garmin Edge 520 GPS was easy to set up and get started. I adjusted to the new technology easily and now have it integrated into my daily rides. I have full tracking of key stats and an automatic synch to the iPhone app and Garmin connect. I had to go through several steps to do that with other models. I'm very happy with the 520 and highly recommend it to anyone. If you a looking to focus on riding and less on your cycling computer then this is GPS for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin got right with the 520 Garmin absolutely got it right with the Edge 520. It does everything I could want a bike computer to do plus a few things I didn't think about. I' glad they did. I used the Edge 500 for years and was very happy with it's reliability. The only issue I ever had was with the GS10 - I must have gone through 4 or 5 of them. But now with the 520 teamed up with the redesigned speed and cadence sensors, I have had no issues at all. The user interface on the 520 is fairly intuitive, but I definitely needed the user manual for several features. The manual still leaves some questions unanswered. Pairing it with my iPhone and sensors was flawless. Wireless uploading after a ride really saves steps and time. I was hesitant to buy the 520 while my 500 was still working just fine, but after using it for two months, I don't regret the purchase at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One month and 650 miles of use. Picked this up from my local store. Videos on youtube are helpful in syncing and setup. It takes some time to figure the settings. Laptop is crucial, in that it will need software updates right away. Sensors work great and are resilient to water and road grit. Found the clasp on the heart rate monitor can chafe the skin, chamois cream fixes it for me. Now to my stupidity, I was riding my bike in the rain when I shouldn't have. The storm spawned a tornado 20 miles away and dumped an inch of rain in a short period, forcing me to get off the bike and seek shelter in a ditch. All sensors and the computer continued working with out a hiccup. Stupid story two, I was pulling my cycling laundry out of the wash when the Edge 520 flew out and hit me in the shin. Panic, fear, thoughts of rice. It fired right up and works like a charm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of gear I purchased this as an upgrade to the basic speed / cadence sensors I currently had. I really wanted to add an HR monitor to help me train more efficiently. After some internet research, I decided on the 520. A little pricey but it had all of the capabilities that I wanted. I got lucky and REI had a bundle with the 520 plus speed, cadence and HR in one kit. Awesome!! The reviews that say it is a little hard to set up are true. It isn't really hard, just takes a little time. Once you get it dialed in to your preferences, it is awesome. I used it riding my first century and it really helped me keep the pace and effort I needed to complete the ride. As a training partner, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 520.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Unit I'm very happy with the performance and utility of the Edge 520. It's providing me all the information that I wanted to make my cycle training better. Great battery life, GPS finds satellites really quickly, uploads without a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meeting all expectations I bought the 520 to replace my cyclometer and have been very pleased. I have used other Garmin products before and it seems they are getting easier to use. Set-up was simple. No need to enter wheel size, etc.. What impressed me the most was that the heart rate monitor, speed, and cadence sensors were fully synched with the computer. A second set of mounts comes in the box so with the exception of either moving the sensors or buying a second set of cadence and speed sensors you can easily move the 520 to another bike. The information is easy to ready and there is an adjustment to brighten or dim the screen. I've had no issues reading the screen while riding with either polarized or non-polarized glasses. The ride summary is excellent. I get the distance, average speed, max and average cadence, ascent and descent profile, total climbing and descending measures, and time. I have not checked the HR monitor for compatibility with stationary bikes at the health club the I use. The strap for the HR monitor seems to fit better than previous models and brands. I would advise anyone buying the 520 to take the time to learn the scrolling and selection symbols and the position of the buttons before starting out. I have not tried downloading my rides to the Garmin sight, but previous experience with an older product leave me to believe that should not be an issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works well Pros: -Good data provided about each ride through the Garmin Connect app. -Like the temperature gauge -HRM works well/consistently -Like the small footprint -Cadence sensor works well/consistently Cons: -Limited storage for maps. Can download maps from StreetMaps, but have to switch them out if I'm travelling -Touchscreen would be nice, but it's fine without -I wish it charged like the Garmin Edge 25, rather than with the micro USB. I expect the rubber cover on the charging port to fail at some point, but we'll see.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed - returned Lettering was too small for me to read. To use feature comparing your speed on a segment you need to subscribe to premium Stava @ $60/year. Traded it for a $150 Sigma computer.

Will REI be selling the 520 unit alone? I don't need the sensor or HR monitor.

Asked by: scooterMKE
We will be carrying the Garmin Edge 520 separately. It is estimated to arrive for fall 2015. Here's a link to its product page:

Does the HRM that comes with the Garmin Fenix 3 work on the Garmin Edge 520?  I was hoping not to get two HRM straps.  Any difference between the HRMs straps between the two devices?

Asked by: Echohawk77
Yes! The Garmin Edge 520 GPS Cycling Computer pairs with standard ANT+ sensors including power meters, heart rate monitors, speed and cadence sensors, Varia™ cycling awareness products, remotes and VIRB Edge 520. The heart rate monitor that comes with the Garmin Fenix 3 is the HRM-Run which uses ANT +.

Garmin website is selling the Edge 520 bundle with HR monitor chest strap, speed and cadence sensors for the same price. Is this the same bundle? Seems like the cost of the 520 & HR monitor would be less than the list price.

Asked by: TheThrill
This Edge 520 bundle is the same one that is listed on Garmin's site.
