Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect Used this for the first time over the weekend. The pack fit nicely on my back, shoulders, and hips. I really like the zippered pocket in front; it's a great compartment for things you want easy access to. The UpLift also feels better compared to the usual compression straps found on the sides of other bags. If there's one (or two) gripes about this pack, it's that the side mesh pockets don't have compression straps or cinches. If you plan on putting a water bottle there, I suggest not putting a bottle bigger than Nalgene's 1L bottle. I also find the top lid quite small compared to other REI packs'. Other than those two issues, everything else is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful improvement I had the previous pack, the REI Flash 62, for 6 years and loved it. What made me upgrade? The hipbelt - it's got shaped/molded padding that prevents the worst of backpacking pains - all the pressure right on the hipbone. The waistbelt is comfortable and does its job well. The new compression straps are cool - they really lift the whole pack and help distribute weight well. I was worried I'd miss the floating back panel, but this one semi-floats, so you can still stuff loose things between the pack and the back panel. It is about half a pound heavier than the old model, but the hip padding alone is worth the extra weight. Still very light in the 65L class. With this upgrade, REI made an awesome pack even better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nailed it! This is the pack for me. I originally purchased the Osprey Atmos 65 with all its bells and whistles but I couldn't get past the side zipper pockets not being able to close once the pack was full. REI Flash is much better and cheaper. I like that even with 65 liters, it doesn't hit my head and limit my range of motion when looking around while hiking. I like the out zipper pocket that can easily fit quite a bit of quick access items. The J Zipper also is great because I can quickly get to things lower in the pack, even though there is no sleeping bag compartment. There also is a good sized pocket for wet items. I've carried wet shoes in there and a dirty tarp and it fits really well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack I am on my 2nd Flash Pack and they is awesome. Has all of the great minimalist bells and whistles you'd desire in a light weight pack plus more at a greatly reduced weight. There thoughtfully designed and built. I typically pack 25 pounds for a 2-3 night trip and up to 35 pounds for a 5-6 day trip. Plenty of room. Comfortable carry. Durable. Only thing I wish they would do is make the bottom straps detachable, as that is a poor place to carry things, and make the waist band pockets big enough for modern smart phones or small cameras. The current sized pockets are only good for Gu gels or similarly small items.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lots of potential, but significant bugs Has a lot of potential, but I decided to return due to three significant problems with the pack. Overall, with more field testing and design improvements, this could be an excellent pack. Right now it is like a first year model car, too many bugs to buy at this point. Pros: Pack is light and the frame feels very good (at least on my back). It was very comfortable to wear. Cons: Sternum strap is poorly designed. It is clipped on to the shoulder straps and it unclipped the first hour I used the pack (on a three day trek in Yosemite) and I COULD NOT fix it. VERY annoying while on the trail. Top compartment straps not sewn well. When I cinched it down, the rear strap began tearing out. Rear pocket volume shrinks if you fill the main compartment, essentially reduces the packs usable volume. It should be designed to float more and not be affected by main compartment filling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flash 65 not previous smaller versions The previous version was 3 pounds 2oz. This one goes up by 8oz to 3 pounds 10oz. I think the previous reviewer is confusing with the Flash 45 which was under 2 pounds. Yes it has increased on weight, but I think with the zipper that gives you full access to contents and the nicer hip belt, it is probably worth the extra oz. I own the 45 and I am thinking of picking this one up soon. I have tried it on and it is much more comfortable due to the hip belt on the 45. Of course you can't tell much at the store. Hopefully will give an owners review in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Pack Purchased this pack for my first backpacking trip and was very pleased with how it kept my load centered and compact. The load bearing straps allowed for an almost custom fit to my back. Also the conviently placed compartments allowed me to keep everything organized. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to carry their load compacted and comfortably.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2 Trips... It's Getting Better I bought this pack in November of 2016. I was looking for a better fit and a lighter option. I found that. Pros: Fit is great, Weight is great, Storage is great and flexible. Cons: 1. The shoulder straps are not near wide enough when donning the bag. They twist and it is an issue. 2. The water bottles are not easily reachable and are not secure unless you improvise with the lower yellow cording on the back of the pack. The first trip I took in February was no better than a 3 Star. The Second trip was a better overall experience as I learn the bag. Overall, a pretty good bag if you understand the issues going in.

Would the REI 60 Rain Cover work on this pack? This is what an associate recommended when I bought the pack so I purchased it but have yet to use it.

Asked by: Deltr0nz
If you attach anything to the bottom of the flash pack like a tent or ridge rest, I would recommend getting an 85 liter pack cover. I used one for about 1500 miles this past summer and it worked well in snow and rain while hiking.

Does the hydration pack compartment is in the internal or external? Can I fit an Osprey 3L bladder in it?

Asked by: charliez
Where you fit the hydration reservoir is internal. I have a platypus 3.0L reservoir and it fit fine.
